@@buttermink2153 Joseph Anderson has doubled down on his everything is subjective takes and is in general more weird with his takes almost like he views games as some challenge you aren't supposed to engage in. If you want examples this includes stuff like Playing through Yakuza while never healing once and then getting mad on how hard that makes the game. Saying how humans do not make sense in any fantasy setting because they wouldn't evolve just like humans on earth so it hurt immersion. Any game that has a women in a lewd scene or skimpy outfit makes her stop being a character and just an object to use for enjoyment and cant be count as representation. Claiming the Witcher series doesn't have any moral choices because he can point to everyone in the entire franchise and tell you which is right. Refused to ever use and summons, ranged weapons, or shields in any souls game ever and complain about how this made lots of the games hard. Just lots of weird examples how him playing games in weird way or breaking them on accident and not realizing what people intend for them to do. He just plays everything so different from everyone that its hard to get anything out of any videos or streams besides entertainment which would be a problem but he wants to be a deep analyzer first and foremost.

Don't think "to become" is applicable. More so "to reveal their true nature". His videos always had this underlying smug feeling of superiority, that could be mistaken for knowledge and expertise of someone who did their research. But in reality it's just nothing. It's not hard to see the pattern once you noticed it, and it takes very little to notice it.

Have you heard the Tragedy of Darth Anderson the Massive? I thought not. It's not a story the Subjedi would tell you. His video essay tisms grew so powerful, the only thing he feared was his own videos getting criticized. Which, of course, eventually they were. He was betrayed by his own KZbin comments section. Ironic, really. He could be critical of anyone, except himself.

@@Lemon_Inspector His Twitch streams back when he did those were very different than is main channel. It was all channel memes, and no real pretensions of him being bright beyond pointing out blatant plot holes in bad anime games. Glitching through games was a regular thing there, so this was more of a nod to his Twitch fans. He's grown up a lot over the years, but I don't think anyone could confuse him with bright. Especially not anyone who has tried to read one of his books, sheesh. But he did become a lot less smug by the time he dropped of the internet.

Speaking as someone who's watched my fair share of Joseph Anderson stream supercuts, hes kind of a garden variety weeb/spectrumy (not even me being insulting he genuinely exhibits those traits) that found his way into the world of intellectual critiques but he doesnt have the ability to take criticism himself without considering it as a personal slight. He's probably not cut out as a critic but he can be a funny streamer at times, I just find it hard to seperate that from this behaviour. This clip is ancient though so idk maybe hes changed since then

@ oh 100%, but there is progression. It’s just that the games tend to take place at the story’s 11th hour, so there’s not much left to do. It’s a very subtle, even obtuse story like Theo said. I defo think the way from soft tells the story in their souls like games is imperfect, but the story 100% exists. Also as an aside, while the storytelling isn’t perfect at this point I’d honestly argue the way they do it is part of the charm at this point b

If you're an essayist and you have an opinion on something e.g. "I don't like this" then that's just you expressing yourself. You can expand on *why* you think that or not and that's fine. If you say "this is bad" without backing it with reasoning then you're acting like you're an authority on it without earning that. If you're making analytical videos you should do better than "it's bad (but that's just my implied opinion)!"

This was a cringy EFAP. 21:15 "we know the definition of good and therefore any discussion of merits is objective"? Yeah, how about no. Just because _you_ have a standard against which _you_ judge the quality doesn't mean it is the same for everyone. "Good" and "bad" and "mediocre" and "boring" are all subjective statements. Because everyone has a different standard for when they consider some objective issue. Is Braveheart a bad movie because there is a van visible in the movie? It is objectively an error, but how much weight do we attribute to it? Is it bad if it happens once in the far background? If it happens twice? How visible does it need to be to be a real issue? Those are subjective standards based on opinions. There is no objective way to argue how often the van can be seen before the movie is "bad." It objectively has errors and mistakes, but the conclusions drawn from said errors and mistakes are completely subjective.
