"i grew up in a house fire. No one was killed by the flames, but we all quickly lost the ability to breathe" WOW. love that line.

I love that Button Poetry doesn't censor their artists and lets their artists talk about whatever issues they want to discuss no matter their viewpoint. I also love that you can hear the emotion in this man's voice. You can here the power in his voice cracks. It's amazing how with one voice tremble you can feel the same emotions the artist does.

@@exmotion8608 well duh. but not everyone has the skill to make others feel them, or to call upon emotion on demand. so yeah i agree with her, his emotional delivery is a talent and a skill

Joseph, you are soo much stronger than I am. After being raised in an abusive household and being told that I may repeat the same problems, I told myself I wouldn't have kids. I was too scared to repeat the same memories that give me nightmares. I didn't ever want to be a mother, and after cancer, I took that choice away from myself. So, you are so much stronger than me, and I appreciate you being honest and willing to move on from your past.

This brought tears to my eyes. Wow! Your children will be blessed to have you as their dad. Thank you for sharing such a powerful poem & proving once again that even if you were a victim as a child, it doesn't mean that you have to grow into someone who victimizes others.

So much truth in his words... I know that fear. I never want to be a mother because I'm afraid that the cycle of abuse will continue through me. It passed from my grandfather to my father and if it passes through me to my child I will never forgive myself.

If my dad didn’t give me such bad ptsd this would have made me cry. But right now I feel nothing. I relate endlessly. Thank you for your beautiful words 💛 I too want to be a parent. I can’t wait to be the opposite of everything my dad was. Knowing that I can have kids & give them love as opposed to fear, makes me want to live another day. Xx
