I've grown to really adore this concerto but I have to say that in the Allegro the tutti sections are more beautiful than the viola part. To my ears, the melodies in the tutti are filled with the exemplary charismatic grace and elegance you would expect from any great work of the high Classical era, but the viola part sounds somewhat contrived and self-serving with its embellishments of the themes. I understand that a concerto is a showpiece, but I believe that there are many other concerti from this era that better utilize the element of virtuosity as a means of serving the music. Edit: I just learned that the composer was a violinist/violist. I find it fascinating that string-playing composers tend to write incredible and memorable melodies (like Paganini) but often fall into the same pitfall I described above when composing concerti.

@@teegos I read that they are from different Schubert families. This one is from old East Germany that now is another country. And famous Lieder Schubert is not from this place.
