I am not a woods man. But I do enjoy the forest. I love a good camp fire. When I was a kid, I built several tree houses on my parents 10 acres of woods in Massachusetts. I have gone "camping" when I was in my twenties. I have slept in tents with a river of water flowing under my sleeping bag. I have slept in the bed of a truck in a torrential rain storm with just a plywood roof. Got soaked to the bone. Went camping In a 72 Matador 4 dr sedan, (that was my "tent").. and in an actual camper, slept on the floor. My friends and I were HEAVY drinkers. Way too many years wasted, being wasted. My generation, my gang of friends were all into partying. We had parties every weekend all year round, and went clubbing during the work week. I still love the outdoors, but to watch you Joe...is incredible. You can be comfortable in freezing weather, sleeping in a lean to.! I don't think I could do that. I need a tent or truck bed or something with walls to feel safe enough to sleep ! I don't know how you do it !. Be safe man ! Peace ! matt.

On the 29 of March, I lost my ESA Nala (Cat). She developed sudden and very aggressive cancer so I spent the lat few days just watching through your videos and they really helped me cope with the grief. On Saturday and Sunday, we were supposed to get clear skies in my town of Stirling, Ontario. We got rain on Saturday which then tappered to freezing rain, then to snow and by Sunday, it went from snow - rain - sun - freezing rain - snow - then back to sun mixed with rain x'D I swear my cat got up there and strangled the weather man for all those days of bad weather and old achy bones x'D

Joe, if you get a tree stuck like that try sticking your axe in the end of the tree so that you can use it as a lever to rotate/twist the tree as you shake it free. Hi Joe, I am a regular viewer. As I can not always get out when I would like, I live vicariously through your adventures :-). Just a comment on flint and steel fire. With today’s technology I guess it is kind of a boutique, somewhat parlor trick way to start fire. However, I persist in doing it most of the time when camping for a couple of reasons: it forces me to slow down and do proper fire prep; it reminds me not to take fire making for granted; and it is a skill I can use when matches are damp, wind is high, and other methods have failed. Except for the char cloth, a flint and steel are almost indestructible, I always carry lots if char cloth, and in reality I can even strike a spark off of my carbon steel knife and a piece of quartz to make a fire. I find there is something deeply satisfying and self sufficient about the process of sparking up a fire and as yet it has never failed. Thanks for the vids, John

Does it bother anyone else that the logs aren't staggered, alternating the fat and skinny side up and down?
