Mr. Joe, hello! This is my first comment to you though I've been watching and enjoying your videos for a long time. Going back to some older videos of yours along the North Fork of the American River above Sacramento California - I've backpacked, camped & rafted this river since 1963 (not all at once) so I was delighted to see you playing on the NFAR! I camp way up river from where you were rafting, where the Black Bears are plentiful and the exploring is Devine! Being out in the woods overnight or for a couple of days with only a wool blanket to keep yourself warm is not what I would choose to do, though if I had too I could follow your directions and I think I would be ok. I've a host of adventures from my years along the NFAR which allow me to appreciate what you do. When I am 'Out There" I do my best to take care of myself and my gear and not abuse either as once damaged the joy of the trip goes down. I enjoyed Scout and I look forward to your adventures with your new "Whirling Animal", he's a ball of energy! Take care of yourself and your family, your ailment needs close watching and your family needs your love and presence with them. Best Regards, Herb

Dude!, my first comment on your site, you do a fantastic job of both showing your skill but also adlib entertaining-just as others have commented below, could watch forever. Seems to me your knowledge of tree types and foliage is a HUGE part of your success. Not just quick recognition, but what value they bring to either sheltering or building a fire-you’re a walking expert! I also get the feeling that although you have a great time and think of your viewers, your heart is at home with your daughter and family dog. When you can, keep em coming but be safe and wary of surroundings, watching all these people vanish when alone makes me nervous. Subscribed, enjoy and God Bless! Thanks, Mike and Family

Hey Joe, was wondering if you have advice for someone just starting out in Bush craft or wanting to get into Bush craft adventures. Specifically, someone with limited or no outdoor experience, how to stay safe and keep from getting themselves into a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation whether it be, getting lost, hypothermia, injuries etc. Obviously, a first time overnighter for someone shouldnt be miles into backcountry in or off a main trail, in the middle of winter with a foot + of snow already on the ground. On a side note, just want to say how much I appreciate your videos and all the hard work you put into making them available for your viewers. Currently they are helping me thru a very hard time in my life dealing with severe depression and chronic health issues. Your adventures remind me of what I value most in life aside from my wife and daughter and that there is joy and a light beyond the darkness engulfing my life right now. something to look forward to and work towards. Thank you for the always inspiring and motivating advendures. Take care, be safe.

Do day a few trips without sleeping over. Pack your gear. Hike into a spot not too far from your car. Build a shelter. Build a fire. Cook a meal. Make some tea. Break it down and go home. This way you’re risk is much lower and you’re still working your skills. Eventually you’ll be more comfortable with your skills and gear.

@upnorthandpersonal 4 жыл бұрын
@@hermit6208 Yep; there are several different configurations that make more sense for an overnight fire. I have no idea how I would do with one of the ones he's shown in this video while camping in -20C for example. In addition, the Siberian log fire doesn't need a reflector wall since most of the heat is projected forwards, which means you can get very warm where you sleep with minimal effort.
