Sold TSLA in the early weeks of January at 250.08, Bought it back in April at 140.56. It might still go higher further tomorrow, I'm really comfortable with the price I paid, and was not willing to risk having it go higher with me on the sidelines. I also think we have a crash (of some size) coming, but I expect a short hard rise first. Big money wants a chance to sell for a profit. I think that explains the sudden surge in volume today. I guarantee my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

The interests of shareholders and employees are mostly opposed to each other, unless the market is so large that both can achieve exponential growth. This is why, if you believe in the potential of a company, you should never become its employee. An employee’s salary is a cost to the company, and to maximize profits, the company will inevitably optimize costs through various means-labor being the largest component. After all, all costs ultimately boil down to labor costs.

This is exactly when you would want to buy companies like VICI. As Buffett says, bad news provides great buying opportunities and the fundamentals are still great with them. It's trading at near record lows even when compared to when the 10-year yield was 5%. If you wait until the yields fall then it's too late, the price will already have appreciated.

On the Amazon story, the dispute over employee vs contractor could actually be a legal issue rather than just some PR battle. Long story short, there's a bunch of employers who are breaking the law by wrongly classifying employees as contractors, but then unlike a traditional contractor give them none of the freedoms/etc. of a contractor, treating them as an employee just paid less and not given any employee benefits because they're treated as a contractor. I don't know the specifics of Amazon's case so I can't say if that's the case here or not, but a lot of companies are guilty of this, and the courts have rules for judging if people are employers or contractors. Uber themselves for example has been found guilty of doing exactly this in some places.
@methos1999Күн бұрын
How does one figure out if they have a case? Like I’ve been working as a contractor for better part of a year…
@epbrown01Күн бұрын
I worked at Amazon for 7 years. Every year in November they hire a bunch of contractors for what they call “Peak” - their busy period from November to January. When Peak is over, they offer to hire the best performers as Amazon employees and let go of the rest. They don’t keep contractors after Peak, and I converted to an Amazon associate when it was over. The delivery thing is, imo, shadier. Amazon made an offer to employees to open up their own delivery hub - all you needed was $10k and they would finance the rest: the site, the vehicles (with Amazon livery), the software, everything. You had to screen and hire drivers and other employees, but your company basically had one customer - Amazon. Your independence from Amazon was a mere technicality because If they decided to drop you, you were done.
@JMurphyR13Күн бұрын
If you didn’t intentionally go start a business for yourself and find your own customers, you’re probably not a contractor. If the work you do is the core business of the larger contractor, and you don’t set your own schedule, or bid for jobs, then you should be an employee.

The sp500 is only up 30% total since early 2022. Most of that is inflation. The PE of the SP500 IS LOW. Not to mention companies like NVIDIA skewing that up. Gonna be a great year. The idea that the market has done well the past 2 years is an illusion
@dizzydella1Күн бұрын
Pretty sure prices of stocks based on profits, not inflation
@Roger-il8iwКүн бұрын
@ false. Shares cost dollars. If a dollar inflates, guess what the shares inflate. All else being equal, if there is 20% total inflation, share prices rise 20% over the course of 1-2 year. Doesn’t happen instantly. Now other factors like positive growth, or debt will affect that share price as well. Companies also hold assets like real estate, etc that inflate as well. Since the pullback in mid 2022, the sp is up like 60% and the economy has been horrible. No wage growth in 4 years. If you think all that growth has nothing to do with inflation, you’re a crazy person.

Every single chart of S&P 500 shows its high compared to its historic average. You are just flat wrong.
@jacqdanielesКүн бұрын
If that thesis were correct, how do you account for the bear market in the 1970s when inflation was at historic highs?
@Roger-il8iwКүн бұрын
@ inflation takes about 1-2 years to be fully reflected in the market. Doesn’t happen overnight. Just like houses don’t jump in value immediately when rates are cut. The prices increase over 8-18 months And it’s not a thesis it’s objective fact.

Hi Joseph do you ever take profits along the way as you hold stocks?
@joshuab245022 сағат бұрын
The equity risk premium is now negative. That means the earnings are yield on the S&P versus the 10 year risk free rate is lower. Hence , there is no reason to be in stocks. Every time the risk premium is negative, the stock market has tanked by 45% within 3 years. I am 80% short duration bonds and now only 20% stocks.

I am a qualtrim sub, and have been watching for years. It seems from my perspective that you do not like to hold, even though you recommend holding while paying close attention to the constantly changing headlines. You liked VICI so much and you gave your DD while rates were higher than they are now, and you implide the stock was solid on its current footing and future projections and estimates. Now the FED doesnt want to lower anymore and youre getting itchy to move that money elsewhere. Also you talked about googl recently when the gov remidies came out, and said googl is starting to become unpredictable, and how you dont like unpredictable companies like googl, but then you proceed to buy however much youve mentioned since those initial comments. I love your insight, and listen daily, Im just wondering if I percieved your insight incorrectly, and thats why im finding inconsistencies from what you say, and what you buy/sell. Thanks for the content, keep it up

I mean he’s held for several years. Vick had its run. I never liked the pick even back then, but off the available reits it was at least an interesting take. Problem is… the stock market is as much a popularity contest as it is a weighing machine.
@JosephCarlsonShowКүн бұрын
I purchased VICI in OCT 2021 when Interest rates were less than 1% and the 10 year treasury was below 2%. Now interest rates are 4.25% and the treasy is 4.5%. That is a significant difference in atmosphere. I did have a bull case for VICI last year that the stock price would rise as interest rates are cut, but that hasn't really played out. Even though interest rates went down 1% treasury yields are not budging and we have good reason they could stay the same or be higher next year. In terms of Google. I did say that the company was trending towards less predictable, which I think is accurate in terms of their core search business. LLM's bring a bit of question into that. But Google has so many other assets, along with cloud, and they are being priced with so much negative sentiment that I thought the risk reward between predictability and possible growth was good enough for me.

Despite the decline in stocks and the increase in bond yields, markets still appear unconvinced that the Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates until inflation is managed. I’m still uncertain about whether to sell off my $117k stock portfolio. What’s the best strategy to benefit from this bear market?

Benioff needs to do more showing than telling with Agentforce. I get what he’s doing-demonstrating its effectiveness through effective data-but the public doesn’t process that way.
