Joseph, in an old video of yours, in a certain section you give an opinion on which for you would be the B&C 1" driver with better sound. I've reviewed several videos in search of this information and couldn't find it again. Do you remember which one driver model would be?

The lack of crossover @8 kHz is a strong point. Saves additional amping and / or crossover. I guess only if you can manage to get it close to perfection, a 3 way system could have a slight edge over the 18Sound 3". But I doubt that this come close to the 18Sound overall performance. What's the phase / step response of 3 way vs. 18 Sound @8 Khz? I'm sure, 15kHz top end is plenty for all of us. Much weightier is a smooth 8 kHz region IMHO, where voices can get pretty harsh. Nice driver, expensive, not the one for experiments but well worth when combined with a optimised horn/waveguide. What do you guess is the lowest possible acoustic crossover point for the 18 Sound with Bessel type filter and bigger horn?

Are you still using the DCX464?

I’ve used it on previous projects but not for my personal system. It’s a good driver. BMS is just as good.

Great review.. I like that you supplemented it with the Sachs tube preamp (is it the Lynn Olson design?) Anyway, I hope you could review the B&C DE550.. If it needs Contour Filters either with your Biradial or Circular horns..

I’m not sure what involvement Lynn had with mine. Although Don sent me Lynn’s new personal preamp to put on the Testbench and see how it compares to mine. Lynn’s is a true balanced design.

I remember JBL’s brief use of beryllium for their most expensive pro driver. They did not sell the diaphragm for user install as beryllium is a highly toxic material.
