How do u call it catch wrestling if everyone just pulls guard
@theemperorcharlemagne Жыл бұрын
@@typfeufer if you go back to BJJ pre 1980, you’ll find that it has limited submissions including no leg locks. Also it was all done in the gi. Meanwhile, a Karl Gotch student named Satoru Sayama created a version of Catch Wrestling without pins for his Shooto system. This is the original “no gi grappling” and is where most of the modern leg lock game comes from, amongst other submissions. Over the many years you also had more and more wrestling being incorporated into no-gi grappling.

@theemperorcharlemagne leg locks were taught - pre 1980 - Jiu Jitsu in Brazil. Later it wouldn't be allowed in competition but leg locks have always been taught in Brazil.
@theemperorcharlemagne Жыл бұрын
@@fernandoortolani9709 some were taught in Brazil by guys with Catch backgrounds or by guys with styles that derive from Catch such as Luta Livre or Sambo. It is largely recognized that most leg locks come from Japan, post the commencement of MMA. You can find a number of sources on that including John Danaher’s interview on the JRE. Erik Paulson is another great resource on the subject. The Japanese leglock game comes from Catch Wrestling. Luta Livre is Brazilian Catch Wrestling. Sambo is Catch Wrestling plus Judo and they credit their leglock game to Catch as Catch Can.

1:00:00 This is known as "Brazilian war cry". Basically, as a Brazilian competitor is losing, his whole squad suddenly starts yelling, crying and b*tching; threatening the organizers to never show up to their competitions again. Most competition organizers don't give a f*ck, but some of the poorly ran organizations give in to the b*tching pressure, and reverse their decisions. It's quite sad to be honest. Grown men acting like little girls over a hurt ego.

Right from the opening seconds when Dean Lister pulled guard it was over for him. Sakuraba snd Barnett have proven time and again that if you pull guard against a very good catch wrestler you’re going to lose. There’s a reason why all wrestling styles always seek to get a top dominant position… Because it’s superior to ANY bottom position.

Same. I slaughter bjj guys including purple and brown with it. I’ve been doing judo 2 years and bjj 3 months. I’ve never had my back taken from kesa or even close. If I start to feel my opponent escape that direction (has happened only twice) I’ll just switch to regular side control or north south. I usually finish when I get kesa, it’s actually so easy for me that I now often let them escape just to keep the roll going. It’s funny to see/feel the body language as opponents go from “heh what is this noob doing” and attempting escapes to “shit what do I do” and resort to survival trying not to get armlocked Cannot understand why bjj guys don’t use it more

At this point, jiu-jitsu is just a two phase loop with a fairly open competitive ruleset on one side and whatever techniques help to win in that ruleset on the other. It's open source, so there's no gatekeeping, no official or definitive list of techniques. It's just a bunch of ideas and two (not counting advantages) ways to win a competitive match. I don't know why (some) catch guys, judo guys, maybe some wrestlers (although they're a lot more open minded and usually get it) get so bent out of shape when someone calls a double leg, a neck crank or a hip toss "jiu-jitsu". Almost any grappling technique can be jiu-jitsu, bcs it's the concept and if it's legal and useful under the ruleset, not the technique or it's origins, that matters.
