Stings losing Jones and he deserved better. That said, this was a Superbowl move, pure and simple. The whole reason for doing it is to have a guy who's gonna be healthy all year who can force teams to pick their poison but either way get poisoned. Also designed to effectively salt away 4th quarter leads and overtake 4th quarter deficits.
