Paused super early because I love the narrative of Oregon specifically having to deal with the toughness of the B1G. Lanning was first a LB hire for Kirby Smart (promoted to DC one year later). He then goes to an Oregon team who was lead by Mario Cristobal, and you can say what you want about his Miami tenure but he's from the Nick Saban coaching tree and had already brough a tough minded big dudes on the line mentality out west with the way he'd built Oregon. By the eye test Lanning continued right where Cristobal left off, and they're coming from the two toughest, hard-nosed coaching trees at the top of the SEC. Like what toughness adjustments do people think Oregon is going to need to make? The best part, this year's game is Eugene.
@HyzersGR3 ай бұрын
With regards to your second to last last sentence, I think it's mostly about the ability to run the ball as well as stop the run. The Big Ten usually comes down to those two things. If you can't stop the run, it doesn't matter how wide open and high flying your offense is, because the game gets shortened and there's just less possessions. That's not to say Oregon won't be able to do it, just that it's a different style of football than the old Pac-12. The National Championship last year was a good example.
@princeofgreece90542 ай бұрын
@@HyzersGR Oregon has shown their ability to run the football effectively, they had a good run defense as well last year and with the adds on the D line I expect that trend to continue.

Oregon trenches are surprisingly stout. Those coaches are from the south came from SEC you can tell the Georgia style defense out there but more spread style offense
@zehsackett61322 ай бұрын
@@HyzersGROregon should have a top 10 or borderline top 10 defense this year. Their rush D in particular is great. If you don't have a really good defense like Penn State I think the ducks will score at will. The ducks miss Penn State, Iowa and Nebraska this year. Michigan and Ohio State are the only teams on their schedule capable of holding them under 30.
@randrothify2 ай бұрын
I think part of the skepticism is not just whether they will be stout enough in the trenches, but also how well they will have to adjust playing some games later in the season away in weather that doesn’t always lend itself to a spread offense. Pacific Northwest coastal winters can get chilly but not to the degree out East and there usually is not the same potential for snow. All of these things may impact whether Oregon is able to run their offense as efficiently late in the season when they are on the road in conditions to which they are unaccustomed. And vice versa for Big Ten teams that have to travel west earlier in the season, especially considering that Big Ten teams typically have problems when they play on the West Coast. Eventually, everyone will become acclimated and adjust but I wouldn’t be surprise if it impacts game outcomes in the first couple of seasons in the expanded conference.

Florida vs Miami is a massive game but only for those of us in the state of Florida. Both teams need the win to catapult the trajectory of their seasons. WVU vs Penn State makes more sense than Miami vs VT for game of the year. If Penn State loses in Morgantown they might aswell kiss a CFP berth goodbye unless they rebound and run the Big 10.
@ggggggggyt2 ай бұрын
By that same logic Alabama vs Western Kentucky is the biggest game of the year, if Alabama loses they are out of the CFP in week 1.
@Goeers2062 ай бұрын
@ggggggggyt No, that's not even relatively close to the same. Alabama could go 9-3 and people would still make a case for them because its Alabama. You give Penn State a loss to someone most people claim they should beat, and Penn State will be written off because they are not Ohio State or Michigan. Not even close to being the same thing. Not to mention, WVU could actually upset Penn State, but Western Kentucky....really?
@ggggggggyt2 ай бұрын
My point is that a big game has big implications on both sides, if WVU beats Penn State yeah thats obviously a big deal. But if Penn State beats WVU so what. Penn States win over WVU isn’t a statement win, and it dosent give them a clear path to a playoff berth they have to play USC, Ohio St, and Washington. Just like if WKU beats Bama, means a lot if they do, but almost nothing if they dont. But you are also right VT vs Miami probably dosent belong on this list
@Goeers2062 ай бұрын
@ggggggggyt I get what you are saying, but I do think a non conference win over WVU might still help them in a close tie breaker for a CFP bid since some teams only play G5 and FCS schools in non conference. 5 spots guaranteed. 7 at large. A 10-2 sec team could make it but it's not a guarantee at all especially if Tennessees only "quality" win is 7 win ou. They're schedule isn't some murders row they play 2 good teams

The worst thing you can do for Kalen Deboer in his first year at Alabama is give him Georgia,his biggest test of his career a week off before the game. Good luck playing Georgia after a bye week.

The fact that Josh blows off the Clemson Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs game in Atlanta (in week one) shows you just how far Dabo has fallen these days (even with 2 recent National Championships). No sympathy as it’s a slump that’s been self-inflicted down in Death Valley. Forget the portal: Poor recruiting vis-a-via elite programs is the bane of the program. Just the facts
