I love these analytics and it would be super-interesting to look at how well your analytics predicted success in past years. This same principle could be used to adjust recruiting (or in the case of the NFL, draft) rankings. There are always diamonds in the rough, and this is a method to aid discovery. Thanks to you and the crew for the best content out there.

You guys need to pay attention to what the man said, this list is based on historical wins of each individual coach on each staff. The numbers are “WHAT” they are. The numbers don’t lie. It doesn’t speak to up and comers potential or even how good a coach may be, for instance, a defensive coordinator may have had a top 5 defense, but on a losing team equals more losses so a lower score.

If a team has a top 5 defense cut can't manage a winning record then the coaches on offense and the head coach should get additional points subtracted. 😆

Question, sir: Does the model factor in the games coached together/chemistry aspect? I know that's usually a big factor when determining team predictions from a player aspect (returning production), especially on the lines of scrimmage. Does the model account for this with coaching staffs. That's important, in my opinion.

On top of that, the main DC is very hard to work for, and many people don't get along with him. That should work out well for a defensive staff that has multiple former DCs on it.

I also think Kaelen DeBoer is an outstanding hire even if I don't know a lot about him. It seems he had a great career even before he got to Washington. He's got the staff looking better after a bit of trouble at first. He's goung to make it interesting. Hope Bama fans are patient with him. He'll ultimately do very well.

@@LateKickwithJoshPate Fair question. I just weigh the HC and SEC experience more than the matrix you guys used apparently. OC and DC are just as important. Both his coordinators are unproven in the SEC and relatively inexperienced. I remember Nick Sheridan as a GA at UT not that long ago. I'm sure he's gotten experience but he's still green by SEC standards and so is Shephard. Kevin Steele probably coached in the SEC as long as Sheridan or Shepard has been alive. Now that's a Tier 1 SEC coordinator, JMO. I value SEC experience if we're ranking SEC staffs. Bama's has zero at the HC and OC/DC level. They are just now cutting their SEC teeth and you guys put them in Tier 1 based on what they've done elsewhere. It's a totally different deal week to week in the SEC. Rarely does a top SEC school hire someone that doesn't have tremendous prior success. I bet Brian Kelly and staff would have been in your Tier 1 at the time LSU hired them. Now Tier 2 because they've been measured by SEC standards and experience. Deboer and Co. will have a learning curve and will adapt and get better if they are good enough, just like Kelly's staff is evolving at LSU. I appreciate your content and agree with you 90% of the time. Just disagree with this one.

Tommy Moffitt will make a significant difference at Texas A &M. Three national titans. Setup his program at Tennessee they competed for the title and won the year he left for Miami. Stayed there for two years won coach of the year they won the title when Nick hired him his first year at LSU. In 3 years A&M will be a top team in the conference. 😊

Josh, I realize you aren't revealing all of the algorithms behind your model. And I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong to put UF in the third tier. But, does it take into consideration the staff that isn't on the field? Meemaw used to say that strength and conditioning are crucial parts of a football program's success. Your skin-tight tee shirts would agree. Florida hired Ron Roberts from Auburn, and yet the model doesn't show an improvement for all that experience he brings with him? The Gators don't have a traditional special teams coach, but they hired Joe Houston, who has significant experience. Does the model give added weight to NFL experience over FBS? How about FCS and high school... are those lesser valued experience points?

I get how’s it’s based on metrics and Texas losing bo Davis for a younger guy hurts there overall ranking. But I’d put Texas HC, OC, DC, Special teams coach against any one in America. They do have some younger guys with the new d line coach, Gideon at safeties, Milwee at QB coach and Jackson at WR. I think Jackson the wr cosch is a stud guy was assistant with chin bears for like 5 years then took the job with the jags in Petersons first year and they set franchise records with 2 different receivers and made 2nd rd of playoffs then last year I thought he did very good with worthy, Mitchell and Whittington.

Auburn does not have a tier one coaching staff because of one guy, DJ Durkin. I ain't talking about his off-field problems he had at Maryland, but on-field. He never utilized the sheer amount of talent he had at A&M. He always opted for the 3 man front when the aggies had like 20 blue chip DL. Never made any adjustments to the secondary even if they were getting smoked. Don't see why they are at tier 1.

Right now, Bush Hamdan is getting all the attention for UK, but getting Wolford back from Georgia on the O-line will bring back the Big Blue Wall days. Yenser was a good enough coach, but he just couldn't recruit the level of linemen we had previously. Wolford will fix that fast.

Don’t think you realize how bad the situation has been at auburn since 2020. Freeze has had to completely rebuild the program from the ground up from the roster mismanagement Malzahn created that the worst coach in the programs history, Harsin, made even worse. Just give it time, Freeze is gonna do some damage with the staff on and off the field he has created.. Will he win a national championship at Auburn? I don’t think so, but he is definitely gonna elevate the program

Dude Harsin at Auburn was maybe one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the SEC. It set us back years in terms of talent. Even with our top 8 class this year and likely top 6-7 class next year, we’ll still be talent and depth deficient.
