All of these "Fantastic Four" videos need to be put together, and packaged as a large documentary. This is fascinating to see and hear, for it delves into films, producing, directing, and the market for today's film-going society. It's quite the story.

+Goldman200 I feel bad for trank too, the studio didnt care about the movie or him, they just wanted a remake of the first movie with a darker tone, and nothing at all new, Tranks cut was 2 hours and 30 mins long, they wanted it to be 104 mins and when they cut it down they had to force re-shoots to try to fix the amount of shit they fucked up when they did so and it made it worse. I sure hope Trank will get to make more movies, this man is a scapegoat, and being that he is mentally unstable its easy to use him as one. Fox never seems to learn from other movies that this kind of stuff never makes for a truly great or successful film hell they did this to the golden compass and it killed new line studios and don't forget supernova, which was okay but it was a mess with over 4 directors

Fan4stic - Here are the problems with this film. 1. It was nothing like the comic. 2. It race-lifted Johnny Storm for no reason. 3. It was dark and broody, which Fantastic Four (the comic) is not. 4. It was super serious... A movie about 4 intergalactic travelers with super powers... 5. It was just bad.
@matthewleeeverhart19088 жыл бұрын
+Henry Walsh Bro there's so much more wrong with the movie then just that. 1. The direction of the story made zero sense. 2. The acting was terrible. 3. The writing was horrible. 4. The editing was lazy. 5. The dialogue was boring. 6. The special effects looked like something out of a bad b movie from the mid 80s.

And do you think that there ever would have been an Antman movie were it not for the comic fans? No offense Riki, but the comics make the characters, not the darn movies. The comics last for DECADES as a narrative medium, the movies do not. The movies need to start paying attention. Just because there are more people who are too stupid and lazy to read a comic doesn't mean that the movies are more important or better. Nor does it mean that some director or hollywood writer can do it better than decades of various comic writers. If you claim to love Marvel, but then don't pick up the comics, then you aren't informed enough to talk about Marvel. Period. End of discussion. It is like me having a PhD in physics and you trying to hang with me in the topic because you read an article in Popular Science. You're outgunned and you should simply accept it.

Great work, as always. Fantastic Four very much seems like a project that Fox doesn't want to talk about. Given Deadpool's success, the studio most likely is grateful as they have regained support and momentum. However, Fox isn't stupid. The likes of Rothman gone, the studio knows they need to tread precariously with this franchise As such, Any indication of a sequel or some kind of reboot(whether it be for pride or ego), will backfire and in turn reverse a majority of the goodwill they've managed to reclaim from Deadpool. Heck, credence to that is that in their attempt to secretly remove the listings of F4, the media found out and ridiculed them. And just looking at the franchise objective, it is a sucked orange. Given this latest movie and the prior ones, they have a toxic asset on their hands. One that has earned them consistently less money. They cannot even tout any prior successes, for unlike the X-men, there were none. If Fox is smart, they will give the rights back to Marvel. The X-men brand is still a successful tentpole the studio can draw on, Deadpool being evidence. And given the reception to possible films like X-Force and Deadpool sequel(plus many more, assuming they are good), the studio may see the benefits of this outweigh the costs of handing over Fantastic Four. And for those wondering, Fox cannot cross over the X-men and F4. Ignoring how dumb that would be, given it would taint the brand, those contracts I believe were negotiated separately. As such. they would probably need Marvel's permission, which I doubt they will get. Overall, Fox will prevail with the X-men. But Fantastic Four is a dead asset. By returning to Marvel Studios, they can at least recoup the loss with the slate of X-men films. And for F4,Marvel can begin the task of salvaging the franchise and hopefully bring it back to strength. Overall, thank you guys so much for this series. Stuff like this shouldn't be forgotten.

Tranks' tweet will go down in history as one of the dumbest moves ever by a major movie Director. No executive is going to risk their career by putting him in charge of another movie. He might be allowed to work as a second unit director but I don't believe that any directors will take the chance that he will act out and disrupt production or overshadow the release. He wasn't qualified or capable of managing such a large and complex project and the pressure got to him.

The movie was just a total mess. As soon as it started warming up (the heroes got their powers) they cut away! They ran a montage of a movie that looked much more interesting than the one I was watching. The dreary acting and bleak setting didn't help. Still, they could have pulled out an exciting climax - except again, they cut away. This time, moving the entire film to a bleak locale that no one cared about. Sure, the earth was in trouble, but the not-so-climactic battle took place on a barren otherworld. Who cares? It's like that epic Superman battle in the Sears parking lot. Those are just my highlights from this movie. And I was actually hoping the criticism was blown out of proportion. Nope. If you haven't seen it, save yourself the trouble.

Are you talking about Fantastic Four 2015 making a profit? According to Box Office Mojo, the production budget was $120M but the gross earnings (domestic + world) was only $167M -- that's not taking into account marketing and promotional spending. For most films, to be profitable, they need to make at least twice their production budget (and Fox heavily promoted this film via ads and cross-product promotions). www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fantasticfour15.htm

Hey guys. New subscriber here, I've been watching your videos all evening. Keep up the great work. 2 topics I'd like to see you address.... 1) Ghost in the Shell - the controversy behind the movie. Akira is one of my favorite films ever, not just anime. Personally, I hope that it never gets made, not the way Hollywood wants to see it made, anyways. As much as the graphic novel of The Watchmen was considered unfilmable, I consider Akira to be unfilmable. Once again, great channel.

I've seen a few of your videos and loving them all so far. However I would like to point out that the way you framed Josh Trank's "exit from the industry" it sounds like the reasoning was because of Fantastic Four's box office failure & his tweet. Really it happened much earlier (publicly beginning with his quiet firing form Star Wars) when the studio heads got wind of his dreadful behavior on the set of Fantastic Four. Similarly Miles Teller's problems started earlier as well quiet possibly due to him being notoriously hard to work with and ultimately "supposedly" almost coming to blows with Josh Trank on the set of Fantastic Four. Remember that the news about Miles being dropped from La La Land came from an interview he did which was completed and came out prior to FF hitting theaters.

There’s three rules to making a reboot. You can bend them a bit and maybe break one, however if two are broken your films gonna bomb and turn people against the actors the franchise and/or the director. #1 Respect the material. Often directors or studios take too much liberty making a reboot their own, in some foolish display of pride. The side effect is, your screwing with peoples childhood memories, and they don’t always handle that well. #2 Don’t redo the origin story unless it’s been 20+ years since that protagonists origin been portrayed on film or TV. Your not telling the audience anything they don’t already know and your just wasting the audiences money and wasting running time that would be better used following a better plot. #3 Only hire directors and producers that are fans of the original movie or franchise. This rule is obvious.
@richardmattingly70008 жыл бұрын
Its hard to believe that Hollywood is risking 100+ millions of dollars with people like Trank who were still in high school 15yrs ago. Like movie Westerns, Comic/Graphic Novel films are begining to overstay their welcome and even CGI can't fill in for poor storytelling.

I think one thing that's missing from the bad blood here is Disney. Recently they had just took a major franchise from Fox (Star Wars) with the LucasFilm acquisition, and they are no doubt banging on Fox's door to acquire the rest of the Marvel franchises since they are now Marvel's parent company and they do not like outsiders playing in their sandbox. I'm pretty sure Fox is taking that loss pretty hard because minus the Marvel properties they have, the only established, well-known franchises currently active are Alien, Predator, and Ice Age.
@MidnightsEdge8 жыл бұрын
+originalscreenname44 The bad blood between Fox and Marvel predates Star Wars. While that probably didn't make matters better between Fox and Disney, I doubt it changed anything between Fox and Marvel.

+Midnight's Edge The good news, though, is that the large majority of the Fox crew are on good terms with Marvel Studios. After Disney split Marvel Studios from Marvel Entertainment and put Kevin Feige in charge of the movies, and after Tom Rothman left Fox for Sony, relations seem to be warming. Also, Tim Miller (the director of "Deadpool"), Miller's creative committee, and Simon Kinberg have openly said they want to cross over Deadpool with Spider-Man (who's now canon with the MCU). If such a deal can be reached, then maybe that could lead to future cooperation, especially considering that Miller and Kinberg are good friends with Feige. Honestly, even though Deadpool is violent, crass, and vulgar, he tonally fits more with the current MCU than with the X-Men.

After Stan Lee's death, Josh Trank apologised for not letting Stan see a good Fantastic Four movie after he died. Meanwhile, WB fired Zack Snyder after his daughter committed suicide and didn't even dedicate Justice League to her. I think that speaks multitudes for Josh Trank.

Are you going to do a Trankgate Anthology video on The Amazing Spider-Man? It would be very interesting, chronicling a series from a promising first film to a franchise killing second film and showing the dangers of creating a shared universe.

+Midnight's Edge I actually kind of like the Amazing Spider-Man movies. Both of them!
@dragonphoreal9 жыл бұрын
+Midnight's Edge Did Rothman have anything to do with the direction of the Amazing Spider-man films; from trying to be dark and gritty with TASM1 to being goofier in TASM2? Also, what do you think of studios trying to set up cinematic universes; it's a novel idea but the way these studios go about it seems like a vain attempt to imitate what MARVEL is doing, like look at the planned Monsters Universe that Universal Studios is wanting to set up with their DRACULA UNTOLD, and they aren't even going to be horror films rather they will be some kind of superhero-like action movies pretending to be horror. Also there was Terminator Genysis which was not only supposed to start a trilogy of films but also a spin off tv-series that would have been made by the same folks who did the Sarah Conor Chronicles Terminator series, yet now the 2nd movie has been removed from it's timeslot in 2017; while they haven't said that the sequels and tv series are cancelled, Paramount has apparently placed Baywatch on the release date that Terminator Genysis 2 would have come out on. Any thoughts on that and what it truly takes to create a competent cinematic universe?

+Midnight's Edge looking foward to it, and with the news of the Venom Movie being revived and not being part of the MCU, could easily give you guys more topics to talk about when you guys work on the Spiderman videos
@MidnightsEdge9 жыл бұрын
+Brandon Dozier Rothman had nothing to do with the Amazing Spider-man franchise, that was all Avi Arad and Amy Pascal. As for cinematic universes, there will be several videos about that very topic over the next few months, were we explore several would be and some that should be, so stay tuned for that!

One correction. The fantastic 4 comics were not canceled because Marvel wanted to block promotion for the fantastic 4 movie, they were canceled because they were not selling enough.

+Midnight's Edge How does Constanin Fims figure in all this?
@MidnightsEdge9 жыл бұрын
+TheMellowPumpkin They don't, not anymore. It used to be that Constantin woned the FF license (they were the ones that made the Roger Corman movie to retain the rights). They entered a partnership with Fox to make the 2005 movie, and at some point, Fox legally took over ownership of the FF movierights. Any credit Constantin gets now is marquee only.
