In my opinion, as you have experienced, the food offered can be sub par and delivered in a hurried manner. Their onboard wine cellar is often outstanding which matches their truly luxurious hard product. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos Josh.

Last time I flew Emirates first class was from Brisbane in 2019. I paid full price for the ticket. I was the only person standing in the first class check in line and was ignored by Emirates staff. Im usually very quiet and compliant at airports, but I found myself saying, 'I hope the service on the plane is better than what Im getting here!' Once on board, I was impressed with the cabin and the wonderful bathrooms, including the fact that after each person uses the toilet, it is cleaned and the toilet paper folded to show it has been serviced.

Agreed, I just found this info from The Guardian in Nov 2021. The first female Afghanii pilot Mohadese Mirzaee (who'd fled to Bulgaria) said: "When I was studying [in Canada], my mum always told me to come back to Afghanistan and work for my country. I shared her conviction. But today, even though I’d like to go back, I can’t. There is no space for women like me in Afghanistan any more. I lost my job, my home, my crew - everything.” But she says: “I’m hoping another airline will give me a chance to continue my career. A lot has been taken from me, but I will fight for my passion. That is what makes me, me.” Tragic.

The longer flights on Emirates first class have way more of a wine selection. Also, I flew Toronto-Dubai return within 2 days in first class and the menu was exactly the same, but the quality of the food when departing Dubai was levels above when I left Toronto. I asked the stewardess why that could be and she simply said the food out of Dubai is always top notch because of the quality of the catering.

Looks like a solid Business Class experience at most. Thanks for pointing it out and let's hope Emirates puts a bit more effort into its First Class again since my recent flight wasn't that great either. SQ or Etihad, perhaps even Lufthansa and Swiss show a lot more appreciation towards their Premium Customers.

I have flown Emirates First Class dozens and dozens of times and haven't had an experience anywhere like Josh's. One of the more notable differences I'll note is I've never had a crew not keep the drinks flowing... in fact on a flight just over a month ago I had three glasses of Dom before takeoff, simply because the crew kept refilling them. Usually it's not even an offer to refill them, they just do it... it's me who has to stop them! In my 10+ years of flying EK first, I've always had caring and detail oriented crew who will do just about anything to make sure your flight is enjoyable. I'm not sure how Josh managed to find the one set of crew that doesn't, but perhaps that's something of a trend for him!

@@101watever101 I had it, and it is EXTREMELY rare, but it happens. Not sure it is the flights or individual crews. I hay been flying Poland/Germany to Dubai repeatedly last year, always amazing experience. Then add a Dubai/Seychelles holiday flight in and that one was on the way to the Seychelles - below what I would experience in business class. The flight back was good again. So, it really depends and there are some lines or some crews that are just not up to the standard. Bad luck, so to say. My first flight ever was in the early 80's as a little kid. Never flown anything but economy (nurse's salary, here). I stopped flying anywhere about three years ago. The stress in today's major airports post 9/11 and the humiliation of it all, plus the added humiliation of the 'cattle-car experience' in current airlines' economy class and I've just had it with flying. I am exhausted after even a three hour flight. The last few flights I've been on everyone seems unhappy and tired and just gritting their teeth to get through the ordeal. Even the flight crews march down the aisles with a frown, because they're overwhelmed themselves trying to meet service, and then I feel like a jerk for asking for something extra of them. Flying used to be a beautiful, relaxing experience from the moment you arrived at the airport.
@mihai7332 жыл бұрын
The "cattle car" experience as you call it is actually none other than your own doing, not you specifically but in general, people are cheap as fuck don't want to pay for anything so airlines have to meet that expectation... I mean they were going to take meals out of economy entirely until regulators stepped in and said that any flight over a certain amount of time had to have food on board. We've lost checked bags, food quality has gone down, seats are smaller and smaller, and they try to stuff as many people in as possible... what is now considered premium economy or plus or whatever is what regular economy used to be, they had to introduce a 4th class which I like to call "broke as fuck" and they simply couldn't name it that since people would have a fit so they named it economy and renamed economy premium. If people weren't so cheap then we'd have more innovation in the airline industry and probably a lot of other industries as well... but airlines can literally just do nothing as long as the prices keep coming down.
@user-qr8ki8ue4i2 жыл бұрын
@@mihai733 I agree... to a point. People *are* "broke as f*ck" as you so delicately put it. The airlines are dealing with not trying be the same as their customers (broke as f*ck) and still keep their planes airborne. However, they have a big fat turd on their own heads by promising the moon to a majority of travelers that can barely pay their own mortgage or rent. It's a big circle of devaluation. I am old enough to remember when coach class meant a great experience. (P.S. I'm also old enough to remember when taking a plane trip meant you should be respectful enough to wear clean clothes, do your hair, and bring your best manners.)
@mihai7332 жыл бұрын
@@user-qr8ki8ue4i I know, and I'm not quite that old, but we had been traveling ever since i was 3 months old haha, still have that passport. The main issue is with low cost carriers entering the market, they realized people are willing to pay the bare minimum to get from point a-b, same with how some people buy luxury cars vs a 10 yo honda civic... in order to compete with these low cost carriers they dropped the prices and the experience with it.... I mean we never really "looked" for the cheapest flights as a kid, but economy was usually around 1200-1500 for a trip from US east coast to Europe, nowadays the flights are a fraction of that, so it makes sense they had to take away something to make the flights that cheap...

Well. Interesting appreciation of the Emirates' First Class product. Sometimes, when we see an airline's advertise, we "fall in love" with the hard product (comfortable seat, a lot of legroom, a functional IFE, etc.), but sometimes experience does not match with expectations because there is a lack of "soft product" (a friendly crew, variety on the menu, food's taste, etc.). This video shows a very critical opinion about Emirates' First Class product. Many trip reporters show it as a magnificent and perfect product, even more because we are talking about one of the World's best airlines; but even the best are not perfect.

you are, hands down, the best reviewer. As an ex-flight attendant, i want to point out two things. To Emirates, this is a short flight. More importantly, if i am not mistaken, this flight is at night. The menu would, most likely be a special “night” menu. Crew who fly all-nighters aren’t going to be as effusive as they would be if they were on their normal sleep cycle ( and who knows if they were or not). I guess i would ask what the business class load was before I paid the $400. You always have such a good attitude.

I had a big laugh out of you sitting there making the sliding door go back and forth. So entertaining. Yeah, the food looked like something United would serve. So happy your back in the skies sipping fine wine.

Hey Josh, I totally agree with you. EK is a lot more bling bling than actually service and even if LH or other airlines with a hard product which is not as private as Emirates, their service is better.

B&W Headphones are front - down - next to the door….that is First Standard…and the Byredo is not the amenity kit, which they should habe given to you for night flight same slippers and PJ

Josh, I totally agree with you when you say EK's meals are good but Business class standard. And it probably is because it's business class meals. I took an EK first class from Japan to Maldives to Bangkok a while back, and checked the menu on first class and business class, which was almost identical. First class menu used a bit more fancy phrases plus caviar, but that was it. It was delicious, but lacked the "wow".

Emirates First Class = A Lavish HUT above 40K feet. Good Kick-off Josh for 2022. I was awaited for last 3 months to watch your video (First Flight in 2022) and now we here we go. Wish you All the best from India (Kolkata) for 2022

CMB is not a 'prestige' destination like Europe/USA/Canada/Australia etc hence there won't be any Caviar service. The headphones should definitely be there somewhere as there are many small compartments.

I think maybe because it was a short flight and from Columbo. Maybe from Dubai to NYC or a longer flight to a more major intl destination the service would improve.

Thanks for your videos....and for suffering First Class! You're always informative, thorough and honest and I really appreciate that because I fly all over the world myself and you've saved me from a lot of potentially bad experiences. Thank you.

A very good constructive criticism regarding Emirates' service. I hope it will take attention since people start to travel one step at a time.

Totally agree to your review. I was flying 4 times Business ZRH-DXB (always upgraded by miles) within the last 5 weeks and there was lack of service on every flight. On my flight last Sunday, I even did not get a main course. However, as you said, there is something ❤️ about Emirates. The code EK is called after the first operated flight by the airline - Emirates to Karachi! I would really love to get the notebook, since I run out of them. Due to the pandemic I lost my gold status and now flying EK first became out of reach to me.

Good to be have you back, I agree with your comments 380 business class great hard product 777 to be avoided. Cabin service mixed I flew Auckland to London three years ago and found the service and the food to be below business standard. Having said that I fly Emirates alot and have flown with some great crews and I am aware that they are treated harshly by the company. You still have nice legs so don't worry about the shorts 😀

Yes, I completely agree with you. I flew once in their business class and found that the crew was not as how I was envisaging it to be. It was a very short flight and I even told the superior that the customer service level was disappointing. Somehow the gold colour of the cabin did not resonate well with me. I prefer white and clean look. I am looking forward to my own first flight since March 2020. Thank you for this video
