I'm already on Course 5, so 3 more courses to go and I'll get the Google certificate plus the Security+ discount. I'm honestly more looking forward to Security+, but I don't regret going through the Google certification either. The labs are great, video topics are delivered in bite-sized portions so it's hard to get information overwhelm, and it shows personal commitment to finish through on an objective once you get your certification.

I do like that you acknowledge name recognition, because that is a big reason that people are getting certs. Certs and training are a little bit different, a cert is a ticket past HR, but training actually helps you do the job. One big reason the Sec+ is so widely accepted is because it's DoD 8570 approved, which is required for a lot of gov jobs.
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor Жыл бұрын
You really hit the nail on the head with certs vs training. People tend to bundle having certs together with the ability to do work, but as you pointed out, they are decoupled and 2 totally separate things, haha.

I like the comparisons, of the courses. So basically, do Google Security, which gives you a 30% off voucher for Security Plus, and take your course. Use voucher when ready. This is similar to the Google Security and Blue Team Level 1 comparison and is almost priced the same. Only a $50 difference last time I checked. If people have time, I believe the following path will give you the most benefits: Google Security, Security Plus, Josh's Security course, then Blue Team Level 1.

For people asking "can I get a job with it tho???": The thing I think most people try to communicate(often somewhat ineffectively) is that you have to remember many things in life are optics based. The cert is more than enough for help desk, the true test is how appealing your resume looks(sites/apps for this plus a few youtube vids) and how personable and appealing you are in your first impressions. Are you outgoing, are you reliable, even if you're introverted can you socialize sufficiently even with those you dislike, are you proactive, are you relatable. This is what matters first across any field. Everything else is for you to worry about after you get past HR(but adding more certs only helps)

Going to do Google, sit for sec+, and start applying - will purchase your course if no bites in a month. It will pay for itself if I can land a higher paying position. One question: I’ve been interviewing for “IT Specialist” roles because I come from a completely different career. Do you think it’s necessary to get into IT first before diving into an entry InfoSec role? I got A+ and it’s already helped me land interviews. My strategy is to try to get into IT at a large enterprise and then pivot into their security team once I build a reputation within the org. Thoughts?

Hey! It kinda depends on where you are with tech and how much security you know. If you are BRAND BRAND new to IT and stuff, def do the coursecareers one first. (joshmadakor.tech/it) If you are kind of tech savvy and/or have around Security+ level knowledge, you can def be OK with the cyber course: (joshmadakor.tech/cyber) I basically made the cyber course for people who have sec+, but are struggling to bridge the gap between that and actually finding a job. You can also apply to "normal" IT jobs having done the cyber course. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching :)

I'm blown away by your transparency, awesome, thank you!!! Coursera offers a yearly subscription with access to a lot of content, not all, you need to check. The regular price is $400/year, the discounted price at the end of the year, and just for a few days, is $200 !!! This Coursera discount is not really advertised much, but it is a sweet deal :)

From what I read online from other youtubers and ppl that did the Google cert and the Security+ was that the Google Cert was not going enough in depth on what it was trying to teach, but that It was always a plus if you are going for the Security+ cert, tho the two are nowhere near comparable, or so I've heard. Many ppl even saying to you were better off not doing it but going straight for the Cisco CCNA/Network+ and then Security+ right after.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts after studying for Sec+, then going through the Google Cybersecurity Program. I've gotten Sec+ twice (had to renew it for DoD), and the difference was really clear to me. 🤯

This was awesome thank you so much for this information! I'm so happy I started following your content it has been so helpful and insightful. I think that Googles cybersecurity plus your program is definitely the way to go to really solidify a job and have a successful career change (more for myself) if your going into the field with no experience. I am confined to teaching myself for now but it's really good to know where to turn to and what to trust when I can afford to do so.

Only thing I don’t agree with is the job hunt potential for Sec+. From personal experience talking to former classmates as well as current and former instructors you absolutely need Sec+ for any company that contracts for the government. Or for the government in general

I took the google cybersecurity and I really enjoyed it. I’m currently taking cybersecurity classes in college and I much prefer the way Google has theirs laid out vs the college. One class is through TestOut and another through Cengage then another that’s though AWS Academy. I know it’s comparing apples to oranges but it would be nice if it would be lined up like Google.

Very good video bro! I think i will go Google Cert then Sec+ then i will certainly look at yours, I really like the sound of your program, the only thing that worries me is how long it will last before things get too expensive or if membership becomes stagnant and due to one-time payment, you wont have any more income coming in. Have you given this thought?

Just finished this Cert. Quick take: I WISH the Security+ exam was similar in approach. I'm nervous about paying a third of my paycheck for an exam but through this self paced course, I feel a little better. I'm stoked to see what opportunities can unravel from this. I hope other courses and certs try a similar approach to learning and labs.

Dec 31, 2023; HI Josh. I'm a recent subscriber. I just finished watching this video and I really appreciate the amount of information you provided. I work for the DoD and have some basic cybersecurity knowledge and training. I understand some core concepts and practice those as a Federal Employee on a daily bias. I have a Masters Degree in Healthcare Informatics and I am trying to completely move into the cybersecurity realm. My advanced degree included a cybersecurity component, therefore I am eligible for PostGrad Cybersecurity Course (6mths) with the University from which I completed this degree. I think that program good, however it is cost prohibitive as far as I am concerned. I think my cybersecurity track somewhat matches what you discuss in this video. With limited knowledge and experience of cybersecurity, starting with the Google/Coursera Cybersecurity Course and then moving on into your course, to me, seems like a great option. I am actually 1 week into the Google/Coursera Cybersecurity Course. I look forward to learning more from your content. Thank you for what you do. . Happy New Year🥳😎 Donny

I completed the Google Data Analytics Course and am now already on the 6th course of the Google Cyber Security course. I realized that both are interconnected. I should be done with the Cybersecurity course maybe by the end of this week. I imagine the Python course will take a bit longer. I'm happy to learn that the CS course guides you with the portfolio and also has examples/answers of the activities so we can learn if we are stuck. The DA course didn't guide us with the case studies/portfolio which was unfortunate. Maybe they will update it since it is older than the CS course. I do have a few concerns: Will I be able to get a CS job with the certificate? There are a lot of jobs out there, I imagine it's possible. I do have to get my portfolio in shape. Btw, if you live in the State of California you can take these courses for free with your library card! The State is funding this! I learned about this while working at a library and browsing all the resources the library offers on their site. If you don't live in CA, check with your public library site before paying!!
