He talks about Agent Orange, my father was in the Air Force and was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in 1970. As all Vietnam veterans were exposed my 89-year-old father has 100% disability and has heart disease, diabetes, prostate and skin cancer all attributed to Agent Orange. He is still going strong in Alabama. It breaks his heart to see how this country is going.

I got my first Army helmet walking past a quonset hut that was a small National Guard command as I "walked" to school in the 2nd grade in 1974.. got my 2nd one issued to me on 1974! I just ordered "The Guardian ".... tks Jack for having great authors and combat vets on your podcasts. Army 74-81 / USMCR 84-88

Can I make a suggestion in your books ? Since I’ll probably forget about this question I’m gonna answer it based on the result either being “ I don’t give a shit” or “ I never read the question on the first place “. Suggestion is : write about pain. The lingering pain from the injuries. On mission : sure, you suck it the fuck up- but after action . The sleepless nights. The chewing on pain killers in hopes that it will kick in faster . The pain that is perceived as anger to your loved ones . It gets better over time . But, it is a real part of what I’m certain Reece is going through. Of all the injuries I’ve sustained ( countless). My L5 being crushed and a bone spur nearly severing my sciatic has been a decade + of ‘holy shit-hang on for a ride through hell’ . Now, Reece hasn’t had that but there are lingering issues non the less. Now I don’t think a whole book needs to be dedicated to it but a few details of it might add to the character. Rafe was covered pretty well. It shows no matter how invincible James is perceived- those at home know the cuts and bruises are taking a toll . Just a thought while I sit here in Sunny San Diego in a chair I spend most my days in due to the pain . However, I spend my nights working in my artwork and my days doing what i can with 4 of my 5 daughters ( most just by being present ) and a wife that has been through the thick of it and still has the smile I’m addicted to . On another note : you are one of a small handful of authors that after I illegally downloaded the audio book I went back and bought each book and again bought the audio book . Truly, thank you for writing a book that brings us back to a time before streaming services where it’s so well written that the story unfolds within our imagination. I loved every one of them - though I keep hoping to read an entire book of him and his new family in Montana bantering back and forth and another book of him making it back to Africa. Those parts of the books are overlooked by most critics and are truly lovable moments within the pages . I wish you, your family, and your career the best of happiness and success in 2023 and beyond! -Tar3n
