Thunder dragon (excluding Collosus) is probably the best wave of legacy support in my eyes. The entire new support is built by using the effect of OG Thunder Dragon's as the template for how the archetype is gonna function so not only its a similar play style but you can even put the OG thunder dragon in the deck and the deck would still function decently well. Like the new support just works so seamlessly with the old card that it's actually really impressive imo

While it would be, some cards are just too old and/or bad to ever be revived in today's game no matter how hard they try. Cards like that should just be accepted as dead and just make cards for the archtype ignoring them. I personally believe people like the archtype and characters within the archtype. Not the individual card itself. So retraining a card still is cool because you get to play with the character. Another example is the God cards. Look at how hard they are trying to support those cards and they still can't because of how bad the original Gods are. They might have to retrain them or something they'll never do is errata them to be playable.

Legacy support that was done well: weather painters. A deck that struggled to accrue any meaningful advantage (it plussed hard, just into cards that didn’t actually do anything) and had to play for so long that fucking battle fader was a valid tech. Gave them an Alt boss, easier access to the bosses AND made one of the older cards much better due to its interactions with the new cards. Solid support
@Capta1nTD Жыл бұрын
Weather Painters is my favorite deck and their latest support felt fantastic. Went from an absurdly slow deck that couldn't win until like turn 7 and hard relied on floodgates to carry them. To a deck that actually has incredible snowball potential with the caveat that you need to survive turn 3. But it has 3 card combos to setup two use Rainbow and Moonbow, it's more conservative combos usually are backed up with hand traps and power traps to help keep them alive past turn 2. And then they put themselves into either a heavily winning position or sometimes even OTK. Something old WP could never dream of doing. They're low key a solid rogue anti-meta deck and I would love to see just that extra card or two to bring them to tiered status.

Sacred Beast is possibly one of the best legacy support, you do play the original Sacred Beasts, and you give them new effects or protections with spells or traps. Its an archatype where it doesn't feel bad to top deck a Sacread beast. Sadly it just wasn't enoug, and Hamon was the only one worth playing. But they also got some really cool and unique mechanics, like giving your fusion to the enemy, so it counts as their card, when it boardwipes, and it can get around some unique protections.

A bit late here but I have to say I love the new tellar support. First off they finally connected satellarknight and constellar which just makes sense. They also looked at everything that tellarknights had and gave them everything they needed without it being broken. They already had monsters that search monsters, that summon monsters from hand and grave, that dump monsters to the grave. So they gave them extenders that search spells and one that reses itself and pops cards, along with a really good 2 material rank 4 that does anything you need it to do at that point in the combo. Absolutely flawlessly executed legacy support

The ooooold decks that force us to run literal bricks feel so bad. It'd be much healthier for the game if Konami stopped making so many new Archetypes and started focusing more on retrains. New archetypes always power creep the game, while with retrains you can justify keeping the power level around other meta relevant decks, since nostalgia will be the driving force in sales in that case. Like I love the concept of Ghostricks, but there's just no way to actually play that deck seriously. So if they retrained that archetype and actually modernized it, that'd be something I'd throw money at.
@josefl.2053 Жыл бұрын
I want an archetypal retrain of Qliphort into a ritual pendulum machine deck. I feel like those two mechanics would work well together, with pendulum fueling your ritual (tribute but better) summons. The recent DD support, Machinex, could have been better. If it reacted to any card activated on the field, not just monsters, then I would understand. But it doesn't and it doesn't negate. It should have either negated the monster effect on top of attaching it as Xyz material or doesn't negate but also reacts to spell/trap that are on the field. Gryphon and Headhunt are good support where Gryphon is pretty much a new important combo piece and Headhunt is a searchable trap card with a good negation and monster stealing effect.

An appeal to YuGiOh is its legacy from the early card game and Animes, as well as the lack of set rotation allowing old card use. Given that I think it is pretty obvious that YuGiOh benefits from Legacy Support in terms of making older parts of the card pool return to some viability as well as appealing to nostalgia to sell product. Really I see it as the only legit argument for not having set rotation which as has resulted in the spiraling power creep this game has (which ironically is also something that makes previous players that nostalgia would appeal to shy away from the game). If anything I think they should do legacy support a lot more often so that they arent just adding another rando archetype that will be forgotten in 2-3 years. Do got to agree though, Legacy support that is just 'give the deck a random floodgate' is lazy and bad card design. I do like where Dark Magician and Blue Eyes went that used the iconic cards as engine fuel, but yeah that design tends to result in bricks pretty often as well.

For me the legacy support that I was most disappointed with is Fortune Ladies (as the 1 of 2 Fortune Lady players). Really a lot of what they added was decent, but then they shoehorned in locking the deck into a Synchro archetype, despite the of archetype having not just no Synchros but no Tuners, with its only connection to Synchros being it was in 5ds. Fortune Lady Every is just not great either even when it was initially released. Of course with a problematic card like Water, it is understandable why the deck probably shouldn't ever be given meta competitive support.

I mean... what were we really expecting? Charmers didn't have anything. It's a random assortment of cards with multiple different ideas behind them that themselves don't really do anything. It simply was not happening.

@@e-tan3911 Except Awakening and Partnerships have a very clear idea of swarming the field with different Charmer attributes for power, protection and advantage, and the link Charmers allow you to take advantage of your opponent's GY by simply bringing out the corresponding Charmer for material.
