Soft turtle , I did this a while back. Custom curve limited to 60 percent and use slow up and slow down in the mixer page, add 1.2 on each. I would put it on a 3 poss switch and make the yellow bar in bf cover two switchs so you have normal turtle and soft turtle.

I like the way that you too are "learning" as you do these custom setups. It is more familiar to the viewer than just being 'perfect' when you demonstrate the setup. We all go through something like this with setups, I find it comfortable that you are demonstrating this learning process through the video - even though you already know how to do whatever you are demonstrating.

There’s a delay when you deflect the sticks to when the motors start spinning. When they do start, you already have over corrected your sticks.

Custom curves have been available on virtually all radio systems for the past 20 years. So if you don't have a edgetx radio, you can still do this, as you say. I wish edgetx had a better UI. It makes ancient systems like spektrum look like they're ten gens ahead.

I wish EdgeTX would have an option for a fancy UI. I personally love the UI, it is perfect for me since it is just straight forward. Usually when i use a specific software/firmware i like to complain about some issues that occur due to the UI which is fancy but not functional.

Interesting. I always wondered why is there a deadband in the first place? Any logical reason for it to be there? But! What I want to see now is how it'll behave when flying! You can`t activate turtle while armed but this thing will totally work if you flick that switch midflight!

Cool, never though of this. Honestly turtle works perfectly fine for me. But I do run a throttle curve on my radio for every quad, I like to hover at 5% and have a perfectly linear, stick throw = thrust. Gives me very good resolution and consistency. I have a spreadsheet that gives me the curve values to input from the prop+motor thrust test I do and AUW, but I’m crazy, and the same thing can be accomplished with a few minutes of experimentation. 😜
@mjodr
@mjodr Жыл бұрын
Wow, I thought my hover was low at 25%, you are at 5%!?
@lemonsquareFPV
@lemonsquareFPV Жыл бұрын
@mjodr I mean, that’s what makes sense to me… 25% is not bad at all, I ran that for a while, especially on low power builds, that didn’t need too much resolution, but found 5% way more natural. Remember we got people here not using over 50% of their throttle. 😜 if they fly okay with half stick, imagine how much better they will perform with some actual resolution and more granular control! I do a lot of proximity and precision stuff and need the resolution and consistency. That’s just what I found that works for me. I also cut the top 5-10% on most setups because it does nothing positive. The thrust stays the same on most setups, with only an increase in current and decrease of voltage.
@mjodr
@mjodr Жыл бұрын
@@lemonsquareFPV I'm all about throttle resolution, but I was achieving it different ways. I never though to lower my idle point on the stick throw. I guess the throw from my 25% hover point to 0 is kinda wasted space because hover point to full is used more and hover point to 0 is always a straight chop.
@lemonsquareFPV
@lemonsquareFPV Жыл бұрын
@@mjodr that’s what I found in testing, I thought 5% would be too little and I wouldn’t be able to control my float/drift, but I found 5% is actually more than enough. I tested all the way down to 2%, but then proximity wall rides and dives become nearly impossible. 5% is actually a very good amount for intuitive and natural control for me. And to think I was scared to go below 20% for the longest time 😜

I never use my Turtle Mode anymore for quit long time,..... but still I have on my aux mode but only use if fly at bando and crash on hi level ( not easy to get ) or on golf grass,..also in this situation I only tried TM once......if not working i walk going to pick up..... 😊 For me 90% we make more broken the quad after crash caused using Turtle Mode (TM).... 😉 Imagine the quad if crash,.. big chance your quad is have some problem ,(inside your motor get dirt - sand - entangled with long grass or anything - etc).... or,....minimum.. Bent the Props..... if you push with TM your quad possibility to get more broken, like broken your motor wire or the worst case broken Esc and the Motors ( if you loss the prop motor gone spin so hi).......!! or after TM and you can fly back to your position with bent prop and dirt inside the motor,....for sure you still can have more problem/make more broken the quad motors or esc...etc. Don't be Lazy,....if you Love ❤ your quad....😋 besides concrete bando or golf grass,..... The TM 90% make more broken your quad after crash,...... it is my private opinion....😉...

Im wondering... like... i mean the problem we have is, when using turtle mode you rather spin the f out of the quad and usually still land upside down or you just dont give it enough power to even flip. Wouldnt it be much easier and especially simpler, to just limit the output of the stick in turtle mode so so you can just crank the stick to 100% and the quad will just flip perfectly? 😂 Honestly, i didnt try this and i may be completely wrong but what i learned is always to simplify the requirements you need to do something rather than changing the way you can handle something? Your solution feels like one of those videos where someone is praying a life hack that actually isnt a life hack at all 😂

The problem is the props are stuck against the ground and require more power to break free. By time the motor over powers whatever the prop is stuck on your already close to full power
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell Жыл бұрын
My counterpoint to that is that I always try to spin the motors that are already free. Intentionally spinning blocked motors is sometimes necessary, but increases the risk of fying an ESC.
@P-Bee

To achieve JB's point of spinning only the free motors, add the turtle mode arrow to your OSD. Then when you enter turtle mode the little arrow appears on the screen to show you which way to move the stick to spin the motors furthest from the floor.
