It appears Ruko has a new unit available on Amazon now. The R111S. It is $70 but includes a buzzer and some gps capability, lost model finder? I can't really tell from the specs. $25 bucks off right now for those interested.

You can make any unit pluggable by adding a connector in series with the solder connection. I use a bunch of MX1.25 connectors in my drone builds. Amazon sells the MX1.25 connects with crimped on male and female connectors. This lets me easily swap GPS and other components in my drones. Flight controllers generally use either SH1.0 or GH1.25 latching connectors. I can only find the female connectors to these so I can't make inline connections with these more common style of connectors. I still keep a supply of SH1.0 or GH1.25 on hand to make up wiring harnesses for flight controllers which use these connectors. Make sure you get the silicone wires. The PVC wire doesn't bend well.

You don't need to go through the process of doing the registration on the APP for this module. Once you get it, charge it and start using it. I have this module and I didn't bother going through this app registration. It works as intended without the extra info.

I saw on another channel that if your using the ruko app and you lose your drone somewhere you can use the RID to find your drone whether it's in a tree or lost in tall grass but not in water. This is something we all need to protect our investment and put a stop to losing our quads. I think I'm time vifly will come out with something like this with GPS and RID AIO. It would be nice to have one in the back of your drone with a TPU slot so you could take it in and out with slotted pins for easy PNP from drone to drone. Maybe someone will read this and think of some way to make just that.

If a drone is sold prebuilt, it cant use module based RID, it must use Standard RID. Standard Remote ID broadcasts the pilots location AND the aircrafts the location at all times. So your phone is used for the GPS for your location.

I think it's something about the fact that it's being sold as a complete product, not meant for modification. The FAA has like three different classes of RID, and that one requires the pilot location as well, so they make use of the phone GPS to get that info. Thanks FAA...

I'm a professional land surveyor... whether I like it or not, I have to stay in compliance. Used one of these Ruko devices for the first time today on a mapping mission. It worked well. Even when the drone was at its farthest (maybe 700' away), drone scanner picked it up.

My main issue with carrying an RID module on a purely freestyle build is that it really will not fit inside my frame (source one v5) so id be forced to have it on a tpu mount sticking off the quad where it'll break every crash

Not so. Two things. First, check out the Phoenix mRID. It’s tiny and connects to a GPS module. Or a Flite Test FT EZ ID which has a self contained GPS. You may install either of these modules within the frame. And they are both small. Putting the broadcast inside a carbon frame will reduce the broadcast range but it is still compliant. I know the Bill of Material costs for a coupe, of these. I cannot understand how Ruffo is making these and making ANY money on the product. It is possible they used open source for their software as the code is readily available. Also, the FAA Declaration of Compliance requires the manufacturer to certify that bench and field testing has been performed.

Holyton H60 13.5 grams $29 Amazon.... Each remote RID has a serial number, that serial number is entered into the FAA database then they (FAA) generate the FAA number. The Remote ID is the device Serial number, in the FAA DOC database they list the RID devices by manufacture, model, RID start and end numbers. All my DJI serial numbers start with 1581 (+12 other chars) if they support RID as that is what appears in the Drone Scanner. The REALLY screwed part of the RID Part 107 is one module , one drone but there is no link between them in the FAA database.

It's a really reasonable law. FPV drones are obviously dangerous, they do 130mph. We can fly all we want, just need an identifier? And you think that's unreasonable? Grow up. I fly at a FRIA BUT also fly at my house. Mostly I just fly those little Volantex airplanes and I'm just trying to kill the itch while I can't get to the field. But my bigger aircraft that I'm comfortable with flying here (I have 3 acres) are over the 250g limit. To get ready for Jan 1st fun fly I needed to make sure they're ready but don't have the hour to go, fly and come back for 1-2 minute flights. Ya, I just flew. I broke the rules. But I'd also like to see, how high I get ( I mean I KNOW how high I got, My house +10 feet. And I get so negative about Tail Heavy Productions and their necessity of 3D everything and flying through the woods then think nothing of taking off between my trees, going around, up over the house, behind another tree then remember almost too late I have another tree I planted last year between the two I was gonna split and then STOLing the plane down to land at my feet. Ok, they fly through wooded paths, they simply don't care how much money the crash costs, savages) Can I get a velocity out of this thing? other stuff that GPS would give me. Does this thing have to be outside the plane? Can I safely secure it INSIDE the plane. Velcro only holding on isn't going to be a great deal on something that breaks 100 consistently. Also, though the 400 foot limit at our field is now 800, how HIGH is that 7 foot wingspan airplane of mine when I'm climbing? Not to mention the +100 mph plane that has unlimited vertical. 10 years ago when I was flying it regularly I'd launch, go out 100 yards and then climb up till I was having a bit of an issue seeing it. Chop the throttle and it'll come right back down, vertical rolling, and then go about flying. Generally I put a climbing prop on it anyways to keep the speeds down. 80 mph is plenty fast when it goes where ever you point it. I have a couple little quad Copters, never really jivved with them. Their' cool and all, don't get me wrong. BUT I came into this hobby back in the 70s and really, the most relaxing and fun thing I do is touch n go's. Flown beginner pattern and Combat there all fun but drones don't fly like airplanes. Though it is kinda fun to hover around my living room with the FPV goggles on. So much so, I haven't done THAT in about 7 years.

On any given day in the US there are well over 10 million vultures/eagles/geese/cranes flying in the NAS, and many routinely fly several thousand feet high. These birds exist in higher numbers, weight, sizes, and risk than all the modelers in the entire country. They and we have been flying in the NAS with minimal incidents for decades. The same record does not hold for firearms (consider which has grossly higher risk to the general public)... Following the absurdity of the FAA rationale to its logical conclusion, will the FAA mandate each wild bird also be captured and equipped with an RID module? Then re-captured every few months to replace the batteries?
