It's so so wild to me that I just started FPV by running Liftoff. So when I decided to actually buy my first drone and do some more research, I'd watched Barwell before, but I couldn't believe that his yard was what I'd been flying on in Liftoff lol

I always fly my TinyWhoop Meteor 75 in angle mode indoors because acro was just too much for me. However, after following these steps, I now fly acro indoors without even realizing I'm in acro mode! This has made such a difference. I see rates as the 'frequency' between your hands and your brain, and by adjusting the rates, you tune the correct frequency." Thanks Joshua.

JB, thanks for this great info. As a new (78yo) pilot (FPV), 2 years on camera drones. I was confused by the "rates". I am slightly more familiar with them now. Still confused but at least I think I can try and sort them out a little, just as soon as I can fly in ACRO. Got an Avata on release date and been stuck with the Motion Controller. My FPV Controller 2 should arrive in a few days, what a long wait. I am planning on re-watching this video several times before it arrives. Thanks for the info

Been flying sim for about 12hrs now, just using "recommended" rates from random google searches. Decided to give this a go, and within less than an hour, I'm already feeling infinitely more precise and smooth than in all those 12 hours. It was almost like a switch flipped. I can hit gaps with such better precision, turns are smoother, not overcorrecting/undercorrecting as much. Still by no means an expert pilot, but I'm feeling so much more confident. Your videos have been insanely helpful!

this is a great video, learning all of the aspects of controlled flight I believe it makes you a “more safe pilot” . I had to change my rates for my phantom four because in sport mode if you go to fast tweaks out the gimbal so they allow you to make profiles. I really enjoy the way my DJI inspire flies even though it’s an older drone and it’s not an FPV it’s still fun to fly, I used my rates from my DJI inspire and transfer them over to my DJI phantom four and it flew exactly the same. It’s fixed my problem with the phantom for being real twitchy. I’m more of a slow controlled cinematic type drum pilot I don’t do flips or acrobats of any kind. I just drive them at full throttle and have fun with it.

Great description of the compromises and transitions between fine control rates in the centre of stick range and the need for higher rates for snap moves at the extremes of stick range. Human reaction times are going to be a key part of the upper end of both of those rates for any individual. FPV flying is primarily VISUAL and visual reaction times are slightly slower than those for touch and sound. Visual reaction times have been reported in the range 190-250 milliseconds, with XY genotype faster than XX, and people who exercise tending to be faster than those who are more sedentary. (Whether that is cause, or effect is unclear.) Came to essentially the same understanding and tuning of centre and full deflection rates before I saw the video.

Kemosabe, This along with the other rate experiment you posted a few days ago have really helped me more than words can express. I've taken this seriously and found two the Kawds I've never liked, to becoming as good a the ones I've preferred the most. The same for my camera drone the Andy Shen Geyser. It's made a tremendous improvement. If people will take several hours of their time to personally tune the Kuads they like the least first, they will be surprised and certainly going to rates tuning their go-to kwads much improved.

JB your camera is probably fitted at the front of the frame so on rolls it's spinning as fast as a centre of rotation but on Flips your camera is travelling longer like in the circle :) same if you place camera on the bike wheel and move it away from the centre.. it will take small circle move when near the centre and longer if near the edge of the wheel:) basically it's spinning the same but your camera is taking longer to do 360 :)
