Turnigy9X with SmartieParts board & XJT module. XM+ receiver. This helped me because after loading BF 4.2 I could not arm the quad. When I did a bind with telemetry off then I was able to arm. I still need a tutorial on how to setup RSSI monitoring and alarm on the Turnigy 9x. Thanks for your enormous contribution to the art and science of drones. I DO like your teaching style!

I also like the power off warning and confirmation you get if you try to turn the transmitter off whilst it is connected to a receiver. No more accidental shutting the tx down!

Joshua, I also wonder if the telemetry off on newer receivers makes its range bigger. When I started with FPV there were the new receivers with s.port just freshly off the "owen" and those had lesser range (IRL not paper). Those were emiting telemetery back and they were disrupting them alone with that broadcast and loosing link much easier than those without telemetry. IIve tested it back then on X6 and X8 receivers VS V8R7-II :)

In a complex plane where you need more than 8 channels you can build 2 receives and place the first 8 channels and telemetry on the first receiver and the second 8 channels (9-16) and no telemetry on the second receiver.

Great, but just to be sure: for binding the frsky r-xsr rx with the tx, you cannot possibly select a 'wrong option' in terms of failsaves or range if you don't use ppm/servos, right? Every option should just work fine I guess? Of course, telemetry ON if you like that. But I'm having some issues on multiple r-xsr receivers with my qx7 radio, while on my friends x9d radio, those rx'es (the same ones, same quads) work just fine. Trying to find out why, as I have no issues on xm+ receivers.

Yes correct. You do need telemetry ON if you want... telemetry. Main reason why RX refuses to bind is that the RX has EU firmware while the TX has FCC, or vice versa. You can fix this by downloading the other-region firmware from the FrSky site and flashing it to the receiver or the "internal module" of the transmitter. However if you are in the EU, it is illegal for you to use FCC firmware.

Fantastic, JB! 😊 Actually I'm going to build a TBS Discovery clone and I'm going to use a X8R receiver with channels 1 to 8 via SBUS and 9 to 16 via PWM (to use with a gimbal, FPV switcher and so on). BTW, I should've been building it already to take it with me next Saturday when I'm going to travel to my parent's farm... But I've been in pain the whole week, so couldn't do much. 😕

Brilliant ! I did learn something. I am one of those viewers that does have a X8R and needs SBUS 1-8 and PWM 9-16 for Disco Pro PMW for RSSI, Tilt-Roll and camera switching. helped me understand the setup and why. Now I would like to switch X8R out for TBS 8 channel diversity and use CRSF for sticks and PWM for RSSI/LQ Camera switch Tilt-Roll. Any ideas anyone ?

ok.. I’m a bit late this was 2 years ago BUT I’m not flying drones I’m using (up to) 16 channels for my RC construction equipment. I use the XM Sbus receiver because I don’t need distance and I can get them for $10 shipped also I don’t use telemetry. I buy 16 channel decoders for $15 or less so I have a compact 16 channel receiver for $25 and my most used radio is the QX7 which I get for around $110 without a receiver. I have been binding (since they changed and added it) 9-16 telemetry OFF but since MOST of my servos are on the lower 8 channels I guess I should be doing 1-8 telemetry ON (or off in my case doesn’t matter). I haven’t had any issues with my servos though.. 🤔 BUT is cool to see and understand what the heck that stuff is all about. THANKS

I have 2 settings on my radiomaster tx12 and I have the classic Notelem and telem, but I also have No telem check box. The difference is that when the no telem checkbox is not checked, there is a timeout on how long the radio will try to bind.

I hate frsky binding it is so stupidly difficult. I usually spend about 1-2 hours to bind on reciever. On flysky it takes about a minute. I hate every inch of it.

Just to clarify. Opentx won't let You bind second link (external module) with telemetry when the first one (internal module) is already bound with telemetry. Checked few days ago on xlite with opentx 2.2.2 when trying to setup r9mm as a redundancy for rxsr.

But you can bind multiple receivers to the same internal module at the same time, and they all work at once. To me that's where the "no telemetry" option is most important.

Hi Josh On one of my fixed wing models I am using X8R ch 1 to 8 on sbus and ch 9 &10 of the pwm pins for my camera movement pan and tilt. I bound the rx to Taranis with jumpers between 1 & 2 and 3&4 signal pins. I now want to change to R9M and R9 rx for long distance flying. does this bind procedure work with the R9rx?

I think the setting when binding should control what's output to the PWM ports. But to be honest, I don't fly any PWM receivers, so I can't verify that myself.

If your channel range is 1-8. How is it the selection box allows you to select ch9-16? Does it give you 16 channels even though your channel range is 8 channels on the (9ms) part?

Got cinepro 4k with R-XSR. Binded telemetry but only sensors that show up are RSSI dM and RxBatt. I dont see my rssi on aux so i cant get it on OSD.

Hi, I just purchased a kit , Frsky XJT external module and its respective receiver X8R, both with the same firmware etc, I install the module on the bay of the radio Radiomaster TX16S and could bind together (well, it seems so), I got telemetry, RSSI and green solid LED on the receiver X8R, BUT, any servo movement ! , I tried it in between diferents channels assignment manually, but any signal output !, what is wrong do you think ? , how can I get RSSI, and apparently communication with the receiver but any servo or channels output signal ? best regards and waiting for some advice or tips

When you mentioned using a regular r-xsr and a crossfire rx as well. First off why not just use the crossfire? Secondly, how does the radio switch. I have a CF setup and never used it because I don't know enough in my opinion to use both. Does the Taranis auto switch over to the CF receiver. I assumed if the CF was plugged in it took over as the default...? Just curious, thanks as always

You can set the Taranis up to do CRSF in the external module and FrSky on the internal module at the same time. CRSF is channels 17 to 32. You just duplicate 1-16 over to 17-32. As for why? Ummm yeah I don't know.

Choosing 1-8 i will have no problems with number of imputs, mixes, aux, right? This has nothing to do with, for example, a x9d being a 9 channels radio or am I wrong? If i want to use all 9 channels would I be forced to choose 1-9???

if you want to use 9 channels, you must set 1-9 or higher, yes. If you set 1-8 you only get 8 channels. If you need more than 8 channels, you might as well use 1-16 as the latency is the same.

Hey Joshua I did learn something from both videos. But I still have a question, sorrry. When I bound a rx in D16 mode it assigned a number, a model number if you will. The problem is that you can't delete this model and bind another rx to this line. It brings up a message saying this number er is already used? Ever see that problem?
