Some people are not busy. They appear calm, collected, and in control… but still productive. They are enviable in the life they live. What do they understand about life that others do not?

I think we should also accept that things are temporary... AND that they're not supposed to last forever. If you have a bake shop that was very successful for a few years then something came up and you had to sell it, it doesn't mean the business was a failure. It just worked for that season of your life. Same with relationships, friendships, exercise routines. Maybe things ended, but you gained rich experiences and lessons from it.

My husband was a non busy person I think. He lived by his calendar for as long as I knew him. If you wanted to have a piece of his time you had to "get on the square". This was a requirement for everyone from "The President of the United States" to his daughter's friend who had a birthday party and everyone in between. He always made time for his job, his community commitments and to play on the weekends. Sadly, he passed nearly 5 years ago and I still miss him, but I remember what he said to people, "How can I help you be successful today?"

This was such a great video. Thank you. I am alone ALOT and I really love it; yet I feel guilty when I say no to almost everyone. I just love making things, hiking, kayaking, reading, etc....all on my own. I only want a few close friends now. I have let go of almost everyone as I think the pandemic woke me up. I had no idea who I was. Everything was "to get more money". I lost my job and my health and I think it was the best gift ever. Anyway, thanks again.

I think we are not meant to keep our friends for ever. Well maybe 1 or 2 but if you don't grow together then there is always friction. Do what is best for you and your family and remember peace is more important than anything. Introverts always feel guilty but we really shouldn't it is who we are.

What wonderful insight. As a mature single woman I find everyone in my peer group busy being busy. They seem to think that if they 'admit' they have free time, it will be a sign that they don't have enough friends or that they are not wanted. They fill their days with endless activity and don't have time for real friendships. If you have a crisis, which by definition is unplanned, they don't have time to help out. I really miss the days when people would just pop round and no-one was too busy to lend a hand. It's all rather sad.

As I was watching this video, it made me realize that when we are truly productive, we never complain about being busy. But, it's generally always when we are unproductive, that we use "Busy" as an excuse. Have you ever considered doing a short out take at the end of your video to link your message to a bible verse? (Cas from the Clutterbug has a similar format where she has a funny story to share). I think this would resonate with a lot of your followers.

With the amount of workloads that people are under, it is a wonder they can do it at all. Have to set boundaries where enough work is enough otherwise they will work you to death. There is a difference too with being busy and being productive. Riding on a riding mower 2-3 times a week is not productive. It is boredom. Grass can't grow that fast.✂️

I knew a person back when my kids were elementary school age, who would on the school bus stop EVERY MORNING recite the plethora of "things" ( I call them "responsibilities) that she had to do ... like cleaning, dry cleaner, dr. appts, baking, sports for her 4 kids that she felt compelled to enroll them each in at least 4) ...and I remember thinking to myself...oy again? I think the parents that force their kids into all of these extracurricular activities are engaging in self- inflicted torture. I remember taking my car so I wouldn't have to hear her bs anymore. I sat in the car until the bus came. I had my children involved in things that they really wanted to participate in but only 1 or 2 per school year. I didn't like the stressed-out look on her children's faces, and they all whined all the time. School is hard enough and a lot to keep up with I felt badly for her kids. So now when I hear someone drone on about how "busy" they are I avoid them like the plague lol.

When people respond with a "I'm really busy.." answer to a "How are you?", I consider that very rude. It seems like poor etiquette. It's as though they think they are highly busy, and you are not. Or they are so thoughtless they don't consider that anyone else might also be busy. Good manners suggests that with others, you speak only of pleasant things. So a sigh, and indicating you are working too hard, is still a poor answer.

It is actually a choice to let your kids do activities that hijack family time. One of the reasons we homeschool. My kids will do activities that they can be in together and they likely wont do sports when they get older because 1 sport takes up multiple nights a week with practices and games, and often weekends including Sundays. My husband and I also have rules about how many nights a week we each can be out of the house for our own things, whether it is social, ministry, etc. PS I have 3 kids and 1 on the way - it's possible ;-) Let your kids see through their current season's activities and then re-evaluate. My kids do not suffer or want for more. Instead of sitting in lawn chairs and shuffling all over the place on weekends, we go on family hikes or to a park or meet up with other like minded families. It's cheaper, and it's always on our schedule

Because of these rules, it makes it easier to relax, have family time etc on a Sunday..something I have learned to appreciate since having children.

I was busy all the time before I retired. I hated my job for about 3 years before I retired. I retired at 62. I'm loving not being busy. There's pressure from my family to be busy and also to work a part time job because my retirement is modest. I resist the pressure because I'm happy. I used to be tired all the time and also spent more money on gas, food and just about everything. I became extremely frugal. I can save a little every month for an emergency account. I wish my family would be happy for me.

I think people answer "busy" as a way to let the person they are speaking with know that they are not open to being asked to do anything by that specific person. For example, I know a woman who asks how people are doing to test the waters, and if they reveal they have the afternoon free, then she will pounce and ask for favors and projects to be done, and once you have revealed that you aren't busy, it's a lot harder to say no without feeling awkward. I assume if someone is asking pointed questions about my life & schedule they are trying to find a way to demand more of my time, so I will always say I'm busy. Busy means I already have plans to do what I want, even if it's organizing a drawer, taking a shower, or reading a book, which are all valid.

There is a difference between being busy and in the “flow state”. I choose to spend my time doing activities that are connected to cooking, gardening, exercising, reading and getting together with like minded people doing gardening (native plant restoration projects) and exercising running/cycling groups and yes a hockey team! When I am gardening and cooking and running I am in that flow state and super happy.

This is a great video, thank you! Our culture is being poisoned into thinking "things" define a person and will make you feel better. Only when a person aligns their will with God's will, will they ultimately be and feel complete. I know more people that "busy" themselves with nonsense and are stressed out most of the time. We ARE our own worst enemies. Many blessings to you and yours! Keep these videos coming.

i don't say "i am busy"...I say "I still have things to do" or "I'm doing things". The difference is that "busy" is not under your control. "I am doing things" mens that I have chosen to do these things and I am in control of my time and energies. Most people won't "get that", and I don't care. For me, it's a small trick of the mind and the mouth to remind me that I am in charge, not others. Therefore, I am not "busy"....I am in charge of my thoughts and time.

Saying yes to something when you really need to say no gets your life unmanageable fast. Here’s my plan for this fall and winter : Goal: I want to read more. Plan: I will put reading 📖 time in my day. I will say “no” to other distractions for that 30-60 minute time frame.

Joshua everything you say in this post is true. I saw myself described and I have experienced what you talked about. I am currently working on giving myself permission to rest. It’s very hard for me. I was raised with a hard work mentality. Resting =laziness. God has been showing me with very real circumstances how important it is too rest, say no and stand firm in my priorities. Thank you for the reminder to know my goals so I can remember my end goal when an opportunity is presented to me. This post is timely! Thank you!!!

Thanks for this! I always wondered why everyone's always so busy and im not when i also have a career and have other stuff going in my life. I completely agree that being and saying that you are busy is kind of a mindset.. i have a lot of things to do but i dont let it define me. Im glad i found some answers through this video.

Most of the time I say “I don’t have time for x” but the truth is I have time but maybe not the energy. To do anything in life, it could be something you want to do or something you don’t want to do, you need both time and energy. If you are lacking one of those things then you can’t do whatever it is you were going to do.
