Holy cow! I've been drooling over Glen-L, Clarkcraft, Hankinson, etc. plans for 30 years. That is the prettiest Zip I have ever seen. That is some beautiful work. Well done to the builder. I'll bet it takes you 30 minutes to put gas in it because everybody stops to look at it and talk. She's a head turner for sure. I've built a couple wooden canoes and one day hope to make the plunge into building a little runabout. If I can come even somewhere close to the build level of yours, I'll be happy.

WOW! She is Gorgeous!! You put an amazing amount of work into her. You must be VERY proud. I must admit, I am jealous! I bought plans for a zip myself after viewing one of your early videos a few years ago. I have not yet started the project. Your videos have both encouraged me that I can do it, and terrified me about the time it takes to actually build it. But, the end result, it is breathtaking!
@joshuaburks6 жыл бұрын
Randy Stover don't let my build intimidate you one bit, most Zips are built in 500-700 hrs. it is very possible to build two Zips in the time it took me to build mine, 1.)buy a running outboard shave off 40 hrs. 2.)pay to have the stainless built or don't do any stainless shave off another 40 hrs. 3.) minus the big A$$ stereo shave off another 40 hrs. i could go on and on with time savers, it all depends on what you want your boat to be. don't give up, before you know it you could be opening your garage to stare at your beautiful Zip!

joshuaburks, I have HATED all the other Zip builds I've seen. It seems like they wanted a boat as cheap as they could get one versus having something they would be proud to drag to the marina. I bet you get compliments out the ying yang whenever you fuel up or launch.

2 stroke? Are you kidding? Such a nice boat to have that motor!
@joshuaburks3 жыл бұрын
What motors do you suppose were available in the sixties when this boat was designed? Four strokes are heavy gutless turds when compared to an equivalent hp two stroke, there isn't a 25hp four stroke on the market that will plane this boat this quick or top out like my merc. You can keep your four strokes!

The bottom of the boat seems to be a little thin as it's reflecting even these very small waves. Had a similar boat, build in the 60's, I rebuild it almost completely. For the bottom I choose 10mm ply instead of original 5mm. Mine had a 30hp engine at an width of 1,45m and about 200 kg boat weight plus about 200 kg of engine, battery, petrol, luggage... Good for 28 nautical miles, being the slowest of our fleet but the seaworthiest. No problem at Beaufort 6 on the open water of Netherlands Zuiderzee.

Josh you're going to have to improve the maintenance schedule - I'm sure I saw some dust on that super gloss finish. Lol Only joking man, she's looking real real nice! But just a little warning here, you're going to get boat building withdrawal symptoms pretty soon. Your in the final "Pimp My Boat" phase and then it's ok, what can I do now...? You'll start looking around the web again at other boats... I finished mine last last year (on YT) and I'm already thinking about selling it and building another one! My wife thinks I'm crazy - she might be right! = ) Once again - well done!

I watched all of your videos from the beginning and I have to say a nice job. The boat looks great. I do have one suggestion. Save your money and get a modern 4 stroke engine. I notice in your video your son sitting in the back with his fingers in his ears. Modern 4 strokes are super quite and even with some it's hard to tell they are running. Another plus is the 4 stroke will outlive that old 2 stroke and you don't have to mix gas and oil. And as far as the environment goes, the 4 stroke will not pollute the lake water. Again, great job.

odaysailor27 the tank is made by "Moeller" it is a 12 gallon tank, bought it on amazon, comes with fuel sending unit and fittings but no mounting hardware, you can buy mounting hardware from them as well or do like i did and build your own.

joshuaburks Thanks for the reply. So, it doubles your run time then vs using a 6 gallon metal tank....I appreciate your reply greatly.
