AMAZING build. Am I the only one that would prefer to put a new, fuel injected small block V6 in there that will start and run without any fuss whatsoever? The old engine is cool, obviously, but the build is so perfect, that I'd prefer an engine that would give me zero issues.

Hi Dan, I have been watching your build of your boat with envy! I have two questions... Why is there no bulkhead between the engine and cockpit? I would have thought it a little hot and noisy without. Similarly, why no locker in the bow for fenders, ropes and the like? You do good work! Chris

G day Dan very nice work sir I just a few quick questions I couldn't find an answer for Motor and box weight ? Hull Power rating ? I have a Holden red motor 173ci inline 6 100ish HP 232kg including gearbox sitting doing nothing but gathering dust A lot of locally built boats that were designed to fit red motor's have rotted to a point where starting from scratch is quicker and cheaper and I like the look of your boat and the fact you have plans available is ideal but if the motor is to tall or heavy or powerful it's Obviously a not starter Thank you for your time
@DanLeeBoatbuilding3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you will be about right with your holden motor, the original plans spec a Ford Flathead V8. Quite a heavy motor putting out about 100hp, that was one of the reasons for me picking the engine I did, I figured it was about 70% of that weight and power so would be in about the right range. The only thing you may have to do is enlarge the engine hatch or do a raised cover in order to fit the engine in, mine is only cm's away from the hatch as it is. I can quite easily draw up additional parts for you to make the alteration if needed though.
@bluejayfabrications22163 жыл бұрын
@@DanLeeBoatbuilding thank you for your reply I have a buddy with a foam flathead block I might go pinch it and set it up against my red motor and see how far away we are The old red is a fairly tall motor as are most inline 6s but I am competent with CAD both kinds so raising the engine compartment lid is not a major It's a retirement project for my old man he raced ski boats in his youth so building something that's a bit more mature than a race boat but still has that noise and feel

Were the carb floats out of adjustment?? Looks and sounds like it was loading up at low rpms, even on 2 cylinders. How was the cooling system? You did beautiful work!!!!!
@DanLeeBoatbuilding4 жыл бұрын
Yes the carb was out of adjustment, plus there was some sort of bypass solenoid on there which I didn't have connected (as I thought it was a sender). I now have it set up better, running much smoother and idling slowly. One step closer to running well at speed. Cooling system seems fine, its just straight raw water cooled.

It was mostly due to the gearbox issues I was having, I was effectively running in neutral with just a bit of clutch drag so I had very little drive.
