I bought the Matte desk mat because of your review. I love mine! Thank you for the insight!

Wool is amazing if you put a black mousepad or something like that onto the part where you use your mouse. It would be good for gaming and it keeps the cozy vibes

So you need a mat for your mat? You realize how that defeats the purpose?

It's so sad that in Brazil there's no such a thing like these desk mats. I love maintaining my desk setup organized, it refreshes my mind.

I have the matte grovemade mousepad at work and have been using it for about a year now and it definitely gets a shiny "polish" where most of your mouse activity happens so it can look a little weird and IMO not in a good way like how a nicely patina'd leather mat would look. I'm still using an XL logitech mousepad at home because I have a matte finish walnut desktop surface and the wool sliding around would be a nightmare. I wish they had a solution for slipping that I wouldn't have to worry if it's going to damage the finish of my desk.

I have tried a variety of desk mats over the years. 2 years ago I purchased my first leather desk mat ( dark brown 35" x 17") and a leather mouse pad and another mouse pad for my left side to lay my arm on. This has been my best desk mat I have ever purchased. It took about 2 months to break my mouse pad in (it was a little rough when I first got the mouse pad but sliding the mouse across it has made it very smooth). I am a gamer and this is important. It is by far the best mouse and desk pad I have used. I clean and apply leather conditioner about every 5 months and the desk and mouse pads still look prestine. Typcially, I go through mouse pads every 18 - 24 months. I am expecting to get many years out of my leather desk and mouse pads.

I've come up with a foam/sponge rubber desk mat that turned out to be very comfortable and fairly mouse compatible, more like moderate sensitivity. Been using it for 3 years personally and my friends, so far it's been great so I've made a whole batch of them, it's called Fusionstrike Limestone Desk Mat if anyone interested getting one (currently ship within UK but could sort out international shipment too). The rubber is made from sustainable limestone rock instead of oil/petrol which makes it more environmentally friendly than most desk mats out there. It's laminated with super stretch smooth nylon so it's easier to clean it than most cloth mats.

I'm glad you mentioned alternatives. I had one of those super large Grovemade mats thinking it would be great for me, but like you, found that it dominated too much of my desk real estate. Beautiful mat, made well, but not the best one for me. When I switched to a smaller mat, I went with Beaver Peak, an Etsy seller, and I'm just as happy with the product. Would 100% recommend looking at alternatives, but would add that you should probably consider one EVEN IF you can afford the Grovemade. Haha. Either way, great video as always Joshua. Loved the filming and especially noticed the way you incorporated some tactile sounds (spraying/clothing the matte mat down) and appreciated that touch of editing.

Great video! I would love it if you did a comparison of it sounded when you type on a keyboard/move a mouse/click a mouse on all the different types back to back. I've gotten into mechanical keyboards and would love to hear the differences in sound dampening for different peripherals.

@@JoshuaChang Thanks! Would love to see a comparison with a mechanical keyboard. I ended up getting an Orbitkey knock off (leather top, wool bottom) and putting a Beaver Peak keyboard mat (wool top, cork bottom) on top of it hahaha. Makes my GMMK Pro sound really beautiful!

I bought the Gallaway mat once and received an aliexpress version. I thought it was a mistake so I returned the item and reorder it, only to receive yet another cheap aliexpress mouse pad. The mat smells strong and really bad, crease marks don't come off. It's obvious that they're using an old product appreciated for its good quality, to sell a different, less expensive item of very inferior quality.

Nice video but I would've liked more alternatives being discussed since the whole video is basically just about grovemade's offerings, which doesn't even include all types of deskmats / possible materials.

Good luck. I built a nice standing desk with a pair of huge walnut slabs and it turned out great but now I don't want a huge desk mat covering up the wood grain and also would like a wool mouse pad but it would slip on the natural finish of the desk and I'm not sure what non-slip products are out there I could put under the wool mouse pad that would be safe for long-term exposure to the desk surface.
@JeremyDeBose Жыл бұрын
@@FastRedPonyCar tough one there. I had an idea but then realized it would have to be something evenly applied so the mousepad would be functional 😂🤦♂️. Probably could do a clear coat sealant with a matte finish but that would still take away from the wood.

Keep leather from “rotting”… I have leather tool bags that are 10 years old…sweat, water, drinks, rain. They just keep getting better. A leather desk pad will last a lifetime, and with a gentle clean and a bit of leather oil, it will age beautifully. The idea is not to keep it looking brand new, but to let it age gracefully. It definitely won’t rot in your lifetime, unless it were submerged or buried
