Just adding, what we used to do on closed blisters so they self drain is to use a small threaded needle and go thru the skin and trim the thread on either side. The liquid squeezes out thru the thread, and when it's starting to heal, just pull the thread out.

Backpackers [ Thru hikers ] swear by Leuko tape because it stays on for days ,; unlike moleskin which comes off easily unless you use tincture of benzoin,.In my opinion Leuko Tape is just simple and easy; as long as you apply it as soon as you feel a hot spot coming on, before you get a full-on blister.

The one and only time I used Leuko it came off with a chunk of skin when I removed it. Moleskin is much nicer

I would just put a small piece of non-stick gauze [ cut to size ] between an already formed blister and the Leuko Tape. The real trick is to apply the Leuko Tape on a hot spot way before an actual blister develops.@@Dantick09

In the winter if you want to dry your socks put them inside your top shell layer , body heat will push the moisture out and dry them fairly quickly if you’re generating heat on the move.

Great information! Also, sweat can be a good part of the cause of blisters, so drying your feet can go a long way. I personally swear by double-layered Wright Socks. Never had a blister after switching to those.

Do you get boots large enough to wear with two pairs of socks? I like to have space for a pair of liner (thin) socks under some wool (thicker) socks.

I hiked the many miles .as a young guy with others. I would break put the Old school Mole skin with extra on each of the sides. Lined the inside of the boot with mole skin as well

Can you prevent blisters with an anti chafing stick or cream?

Might I sing the praises of super glue For some reason, might be poorly finished interiors or poor ability to breathe under a steel toe, I've had this one pair of boots that did NOT like me completeing a full 12-14hr watch rotation. I'd get blisters all over my toes (I'm assuming moisture was the culprit, the inside of the boots would get water logged and wouldn't dry out for the next day and act like a sponge then as soon as I put even a fresh set of socks in them they're get soaked within a few minutes) even though for months I was using those boots just fine for an 8 hr work day. These blisters damn near de-gloved all my toes it was so bad. My saving grace was a bottle of super glue, as I could remove the skin from the burst blisters and cover the wound with super glue for a day before I had to re-apply. It worked well enough to finish out that 2 week stint. You can even open up a large blister and put super glue between the skin layers for an even stronger and long lasting patch job that would act like a proper callus!

Could you use something like newsprint on the open blister to keep from getting infection ?

Sorry I meant a triple antibiotic
@jant4741
@jant4741 Жыл бұрын
Yup. If can, begin with a saline rinse, (taste of ocean.) Then, triple antibiotic applied to gauze, whatever clean you have, cut to size of wound ->keeps the bandage from sticking to the wound. Then wrap. Change daily.
