I just took note of the problems he mentioned without mentioning any positives so you can easily identify dealbreakers. 1. Some screen wobble 2. No more 180 degrees, 135 only hinge 3. Keycap lighting isn't perfect 4. Trackpad topside click pressure high 5. No fingerprint scanner on power button 6. Only 1 c port has USB 4.0 and charge support 7. Two screws covered by rubber bits so accessibility isn't as easy 8. RAM upgradability missing 9. Rear screen lift mechanism missing this year (might reduce airflow but temp check shows all good) 10. 8945HS CPU only has better NPU for AI compared to last year CPU 11. Minimal perf. hit on CPU compared to other ryzen laptops in exchange for higher portability 12. Minimal reflection even on glossy screen 13. OLED Burn in 14. 4070 gets beaten by 4060 laptops marginally due TGP - so the price of the 4070 might not be justified 15. No BIOS customization comparatively 16. Linux test gave speakers a hard time and some keyboard functions didn't work 17. Higher price compared to last year by a few hundred dollars
@rickystafford74339 ай бұрын
Personally I think if you value the improved screen, speakers, weight, extra ram, etc, the price increase is more than justified and the premium is worth it. 1. True, I don't like this. The old model didn't have any. At this price it shouldn't exist. 2. I think this was just a side effect of the ergo-lift hinge. I don't think anyone actually cares about being able to do that. 3. Par for course, all previous G14 models are like this, although I wish the would fix it! 4. Par for course, although a haptic touchpad would have been nice. 5. Par for course. Windows Hello is just better but it struggles in dark light. 6. Par for course. 7. Par for course. Old models had three rubber nibs covering three screws. Not like youre getting in their daily anyway. 8. A downside, but 32GB should be all 99% of people need. Someone needing more than 32GB of ram probably isn't shopping for a 14" laptop and wants the most performance anyway. 12. Minimal means not much so this is a good thing. Glossy on OLED is superior. 13. Par for course. All OLED screens have the potential for burn-in, but I think that fear is overblown. 14. Not always. It's disappointed to see it getting beat at all, but in some tests it's definitely slightly ahead. 17. I could see this as being a downside if the old models no longer existed, but they still do. The higher price is justified given the quality of life upgrades. All that said, the 4060 version for $1050 from Best Buy is the one 99% of people should buy. Add a 2TB hard drive for $100 and there is no better value for your money out there.

The Razer Blade 14 actually isn't too much more expensive compared to the 2024 Asus Zephyrus G14 models while having the maximum (even with the voltage limit) GPU power limits, upgradable RAM, two USB4 ports, and a nicer design imo. And the keys are per key RGB on the Blade with dark colored keys, compared to the white keys with a single RGB zone on the G14. I honestly cant see myself recommending the G14 this year, especially when one of its major selling points last year, the ability to go past an RTX 4070 in a 14 inch laptop, is now gone.

The worst thing for Asus is it’s not like they’re saving money by giving worse performance. Nvidia/AMD aren’t going to discount chips for running them at a lower wattage. And they’re keeping the price same while giving us OLED and good speakers. So they made a product which many people won’t be happy about while also losing a bit of money. What a lose-lose situation. Unless obviously their plan is that everyone buys the 4070 model for 32gb RAM.

That sounds nice on paper for the Razer Blade, but on practice I think this G14 will outlast it. This is just anecdotal evidence, but I haven't heard (or read) one not ONE person saying "maan, this Razer laptop is so good, it's now 6 years old and still going strong" or something among these lines. While with the other big laptop manufacturers you do have that, though it's not guaranteed, not all models are good, and sadly, the price isn't a hint on its durability. Still, statistic wise, if durability is something I care about, I'd choose ASUS over Razer. Though, on that note, unless you have specific needs, if you caree about this, then Framework is miles ahead everyone else. With the Clevo-based laptops coming after.

I think this laptop will be appealing for lots of ppl. i actually dont mind or feel any difference when i carry a bit ticker laptop. kinda feel like the g15 had the perfect thick to not slide from the hand by accident but that's a one in a 100 possibility, and just personal prefference. If i only had this laptop as a choice i have to say. its a fantastic choice. the tradeoff of less cpu power for more battery/betterthermals makes it good enough for me (i would still preffer the 2023 but man this one is prtty). because i know there are many thinner laptops out there also i dont like them that much for the thermals but if someone loves thin designs without wanting constantly 105 spikes and 89-95 avg temps.THIS is the laptop. i would gather more info from user experiences but atm and with this review, this laptop looks and sounds promising. I hope that the g16 and its vapour chamber does the trick, many thin laptops with nice gpus have bad thermals nowdays and some others have ultra spikes of 105 degrees but the laptop ultraUnderclocks so freaking hard to aggresively drop the temps to 30-40 not just to prevent damage but also to lower the Avg temps and make it look better than they actually are. cpus at 10w are actually performing really good now, glad to see that asus is not hiding anything and actually showing why they have those amazing temps and really nice performance and amazing battery AND Godlike speakers/Screen.

The new chasis chasing an early generation MacBook Air is insane. They should have launched a new product line instead of ruining the G14 and it’s airflow centric design.

Given the fact that Lenovo 14 is only 1050 regularly, it's a much better deal as the only reason to choose the g14 was the expandable ram slot
@JoshCravesTech9 ай бұрын
While I agree the price is great, the Lenovo is missing some key features. The G14 is quite a bit smaller as the Lenovo 14 is much closer to a 15” chassis. The Lenovo doesn’t have G-sync or Advanced Optimus, the Vantage software is quite a bit more limited than Armoury Crate/G-Helper is on the G14. 7940HS/8945HS is better than the 7840HS and can be undervolted. The Lenovo has NO USB4/THUNDERBOLT! Which is absolutely crazy in 2024 to not have. The max fans were quieter on the G14, at least on the 2023 model. Seems like the 2024 is similar. RGB Keyboard on the G14, better speakers, and the Lenovo has really bad DPC latency for some reason.

Something I hate is that LTT or someone else popularized "one hand openable" like it's a premium feature. But I will always prefer the lid to be less wobbly than be able to open the laptop with one hand. The metal vivo books these days are pretty much perfect in regard to hinge design.

A well engineered hinge will open with one end and yet won't wobble during use. Those are not mutually exclusive.

So slimmer, lighter and more portable but less powerful. I think people who got last year's model shouldn't upgrade unless you need those builds and super portability. The 2023 models at least got upgradeable RAM. Not a worthy upgrade but still cool looking considering how slim it is.

Since you examined both computers, I wanted to ask you. There is a significant difference between the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED and the price. Zenbook also uses the same processor in this computer, and the only difference between them is this graphics card. I am someone who uses Adobe Premier Pro to process videos. Do you think it will upset me in terms of rendering time if I try to process 8K videos on my Zenbook? It wouldn't be a problem if we say one is 10 minutes and the other is half an hour, but will I see times like one is 10 minutes and the other is 4-5 hours? I would be happy if you answer.

Regarding what you said in the video about the 2024 G14 - as a hardware pro it's hard to recommend this laptop for gaming or creative work. For usual tasks? maybe, but then again you don't need to splash on a laptop that costs between 2-3k USD for office or light work, much cheaper laptops achieve that goal. For creative or gaming? a big no no. Why? The design is nice and the OLED display is great but that's where it ends 1. The CPU is basically a rebranded 7940HS - this is basically last year's CPU in a "new" packaging. If the 2023 G14 is already running very hot imagine what would happen with this year's thinner chassis and inadequate cooling while gaming or doing a high res video editing - it's going to thermal throttle and run super hot a lot more. 2. the 4070 GPU is slightly slower than last year's model, not by much but still slower meaning it would perform worse at an extra cost for this year's pricing. The 4050/4060/4070 are capped (voltage wise) by Nvidia to 100W-110W, anything above it is lost and you wouldn't feel any difference, and with the thinner chassis and bad heat handling it would become an issue very fast for gamers and creative/content creators related tasks. 3.The RAM is soldered! 32 GB soldered is alright but they sell a 16GB soldered RAM! this is not enough for a 2024 gaming or creative laptop, it's arguably borderline ok for current gaming but won't stay that for long, and really? stuck with a 16GB soldered ram and 1 SSD slot for an over $2000-$2500 "gaming' laptop? if you're after 32GB then you're getting closer to $3000 which is sick pricing wise! In the G14 2023 version the RAM wasn't soldered so you could add in more memory if needed. So what this year's g14 gets you? you're paying 2K-3K USD for last year's hardware with degraded performance at extra cost when you have better alternatives out there. Sure the display is great but what you end up buying is a screen and a sleek design - paying a premium for design and an OLED screen.

So the 2023 G14 4080 remains a unique laptop then. Only laptop to combine a Pheonix Range APU + 125W RTX 4080. For context 125W 4080 with 12GB VRAM is 50% faster than 100W-140W 8GB 4070 mobile.

unpopular hot take here: the soldered ram on its own isnt bad, you get faster ram for cheaper and its the only way to really get faster memory speeds until CAMM slots start coming out. that said, 32 gb of ram locked to the 4070 model is just absurd, 16 gb is becoming obsolete and you really need 64 gb at the top end for future proofing or any studio/ workstation type stuff.

Amazing device but I am honestly a bit disapointed regarding the missing features and the massive price. For that money, I would have expected usb 4 on aboth sides, per key lighting and at least 1 sodimm slot. Spending so much money on laptops yet being limited in pre defined ram is terrible. Or the ssd could be bigger. I don't see the value in it.
@jorismak8 ай бұрын
The real problem is the weird and wonky fan curves, which constantly turn up and go down, while idling at the desktop. Not doing it always though... It seems the CPU is constantly clocking to 5ghz for a very brief moment every few seconds, causing the fans to go up and down and up and down and up and down... This is even on silent mode (charger plugged in, though). I come from a Flow Z13 (that gaming tablet) with i9-12900h and 35watt 3050ti. That managed the thermals a bit better (even with the fans blazing the noise wasn't annoying, if the g14-2024 goes to town with the fans, you think the laptop is actually getting lift off from your table :)). Anyway, this is 100 grams _LIGHTER_, has a better screen, laptop form factor and more power on board (CPU is faster and GPU is way faster). But it shows the 'tablet form factor' actually has more potential for cooling... or I miss the vapour chamber from that little machine.

It just feels a bit sad they removed vapor chamber, otherwise we may get lower temp with less fan noise

I have had a Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 2021 model that had a WD SSD and Realtek Wifi Card. But this G14 2024 model has some SSD which appears to be local since the laptop hangs when it heats up. Also, the wifi card is also Mediatek. The SSD supports speeds of upto only 4900Mbps read and 3500Mbps write which is quiet low for a GEN 4.0 SSD. Also, the G14 2021 waked up from sleep in under 1 second but G14 2024 does not.

having soldered RAM on both the G14 and G16 is the exact opposite of what other companies are doing. even Razer have slotted RAM on their 14" since last year. huge L for Asus
@cameronbosch12139 ай бұрын
To be fair, Dell is doing the same thing on their XPS 16, although they are doing it worse by intentionally bringing a worse chassis with known usability issues to the entire XPS lineup. Imo, the XPS lineup is dead. As for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G series, I'm leaning towards the Blade 14 from 2023 or 2024, because they have two RAM slots. Literally the only benefits to the G14 are the microSD card slot (not huge) and the OLED screen. Otherwise, the Blade 14 wins.
@Peshyy9 ай бұрын
@@cameronbosch1213 I don't consider Dell a company worth mentioning. their Precision and XPS lines are marketed towards business individuals and some professionals, but are awful laptops. The G14 is a gaming laptop and is catered toward gamers and enthusiasts which are for sure at some point going to want to upgrade their current machine when in need.

@ideoidiom You are only half right. You can't have SO-DIMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM, but you _can_ have CAMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM. So it's not like they _had_ to solder on the RAM, but they chose to force users to upgrade to the more expensive RTX 4070 config just to get 32 GB of RAM, which puts it way to close to the far superior Razer Blade 14.
