I hope this exercise helps each of you with your chord accuracy...this was pretty life-changing for me and has helped a lot of students over the years with chordal passages, which seems to be a common theme amongst students in general (trouble with chordal passages). I wish you all a great week of practice!

I’m really glad to learn of the possible permutations of chord practice. For some reason this was neglected in my training. Its already made a difference in the Chopin Etudes I work on in the ProPractice courses. Thanks so much!

Great idea taking the excersise cold. It makes it much easier to get a sense of what it takes. This would be great for Schubert op 94 no 5 f minor

I was thinking that this wouldn't be a good practice, but I happen to try to learn on my own (outside of classes) Chopin's Op. 28, No 20 (Prelude in C minor). And since it happens to be a great short chordal piece I can use this exercise for the hole piece!

The ending of La Campanella was easy for me. But the rest not that easy hh. But still not that hard as Rach. etude tableau 39. 6. This piece is insane for me. Because you have to feel every nuances. Feel the story. And tell that story. I haven't played it all the way through at the same time. I always have to stop. Because it is very tiring.
@Cypsky

haha I'm not super familiar with Rach's etudes so I looked for it, stumbled on V. Lisitsa got terrified but didn't actually enjoy the music that much. At the end I was wondering why would I go through the trouble to learn this. I decided to go for another interpretation listened to Rachmaninoff himself. Much slower, probably more achievable tempo. I actually loved it, because I could hear the details, nuances and rythms. Fast and loud is not always good... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYbFZ32po8qjm5Y Side note it's so amazing to have those piano roll recordings :)

@@Cypsky Yes, exactllly. Valentina plays it too fast for my taste. And I know the recording what You have posted. And if you want to love this piece, You must see Boris Giltburg's video. You will understand the etude, because he explains why he plays, what he plays. But if you want to fall in love with this piece, You must play it.

Hey Josh, I currently work on chopins nocturne in c sharp minor. My problem is that I am really inconsistent with the scale in the end. Sometimes it works really well, sometimes I miss one note, sometimes it's a catastrophe. What can I do about my accuracy and consistency? Thanks and greetings from Germany!

Lutschkartoffel I know you wanted a reply from Josh but I suggest that when you play it slowly, aim for the middle of the keys. Also I recommend the Taubman approach.

I would recommend practicing portions of the scale along with "cycling" the left hand. Gradually add the portions of the scale together. We go over this in-depth in my ProPractice video of this piece. I wish you all the best in your studies!
