Hi, all! Two questions: 1. Do you prefer documentary styles where the creator is on camera telling some of the story, or letting the story be told through images and video only? 2. How's the audio? I've been working hard to make it better and not so shrill. 🤪 Thank you in advance to anyone who gives feedback! I really appreciate it. ♥️

Why not do both?! It’ll make you more relatable! No pun intended. We love content creators that we feel are speaking directly to us, so if you can show both your beautiful face and mix it with clips it’ll definitely sell!!!

I love your videos and I like whichever format feels like the right one for you to make. Using clips and images and then coming on for commentary is something I see any people do, depending on how they feel about being in front of the camera. I like that format, but I always find your videos engaging whichever you do.

Exactly Rachel isn't realistic other mom's can not relate to Rachel . It was all easy for her having a rich husband. Having her whole 8 hours of sleep at night while the nanny takes care of the kids. Normally us mom's we are so busy raising taking care of our kids cleaning our homes,Get laundry done , cooking oh and the sleepless nights especially when having a new born baby. Rachel had housekeeper and the nanny's did all the momma's work. No way Rachel can get away and claim she did it all on her own.

I wonder why someone needs a team to send 5 photos a day on Instagram. it takes few minutes. It doesn't require a team of people. Only a website with articles requires one person who cares of it for the celebrity. Some Opera singer said he had a woman who took care of the website.

“She’s the woman who cleans my toilets” … the last woman who “cleaned my toilets” owns her cleaning company, employs several people, & makes more money than I do. She also has a heart of gold and LOVES what she does. A few years ago we had to move my grandpa out of his home that he’d lived in for 50 years- it needed a deep clean to say the very least and that’s when we found her. I swear, when she was done with the place we thought the walls had been painted and new flooring installed, it was that clean - the woman has a GIFT - along with many people who make cleaning their career. She saw it as a way to help people, to make their lives easier, while doing something she’s good at & getting paid for it. I’m not trying to imply that every housekeeper/house cleaner owns their business or loves their job, but they are never just “someone who cleans toilets”

The only issue I have is calling Rachel Hollis 'privileged.' Having done missionary work all over the world, I can guarantee you that anyone from a third world country considers anyone living in the U.s. as privileged. When you point a finger at someone else, you have 3 fingers pointed back at you. Sorry, this isn't in reference to the original poster, lol.

I love this! My MIL has the ultra-cleaning gift, she did our house when my partner & I had surgery within a week of each other and I swear the place actually glowed when she was done. It was Instagrammably immaculate. The carpets were like cashmere. Even the light looked crisp and fresh. Her place is the same, she genuinely finds it meditative. I was a cleaner on and off for ages and I enjoyed it: I don't have the ultra-cleaning gift but I found it satisfying to get things neat & organized, liked being active and being able to go off in a daydream while I worked & if we had a living wage, maybe I would be doing it still.

This. I get annoyed at all or nothing on either side of this argument. Hard work and pushing yourself IS part of life-tribal cultures today evidence this, and history does too. You do need to go out and perform. AND, we ALSO live in a severely maligned culture, very different from the community-based one our ancestors lived in. They went into the red tent and rested for a week. Community held new moms by caring for babies. I always veered away from this woman because the title of her book felt hyper critical (not to mention, Im a woman, not a girl). As someone in recovery for 20 years, I see someone afflicted by the disease of addiction. I think it’s helpful to engender compassion for Hollis as well. We can hold limits, and accountability with this in mind too. Be well.

I am an ICU nurse of 30 yrs. Despite being a single mum and having had a work accident and been diagnosed with life threatening pancreatitis and Addison’s disease & requiring years of hospitalisation and multiple life threatening surgeries, I continued to push myself and worked so hard I nearly killed my self all because I was being told and ended up believing was I just wasn’t trying harder enough. I am now palliative & mostly bed ridden and most of my days I am only capable of breathing, smiling and laughing with my magnificent 19yo daughter. My family and friends pretty much all said I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to work. These unrealistic expectations do gooders like Rachel mouth off about can be dangerous. Listen to your body, mind and soul and take other’s advice with a grain of salt. Everyone is different. She is trying to make money by making others feel bad about themselves. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. As a rule I don’t like judging people when your haven’t walked in their shoes but Rachel now takes the cake.

I overcome severe auto immunity and reclaimed my health by focusing on root cause healing but her approach doesn't allow for people who are sick. Because there were days like you that I couldn't push through and couldn't stay positive and on those days I jad to give myself extra love and compassion and focus on real self care which includes REST. The life of a chronically sick person is significantly different to most people and in my opinion she has zero right to speak on behalf of those who are fighting disease when she's not walked that walk. You nailed it. We don't all have the same 24h. I am living in the US but I am originally from the Caribbean. In my culture, the nuclear family model is not popular. It's not just mom, dad, children. If I were to have kids, most of their day to day care would not fall on me. My mom, my MIL, my sister, my cousins, the whole village, everyone would help here and there. I would be busy with the children, yes, but not to the level I see that American women go through. I see that most American women are basically doing it alone, with a partner that helps somewhat, and that surprised me a lot when I came here. Women cleaning, cooking, changing diapers only days after giving birth and sometimes returning to work six weeks after. Blows my mind. When you're doing it alone or with little help, your 24h looks way different than mine.

uhh Hollis sis, most people DO get up at 4am, for low wages, WORKING THEIR A $ S OFF in horrible conditions, so people like you can buy and fill your house with stuff to make it look pretty. Some people work like this all their life and they never get as rich as you, they don't have the opportunities and the world isn't a fun nice place. She doesn't even know what it means to really work HARD like she says, but so many people do, not because they want to its because they have to, it's the only way they can merely survive. They underrate the amount of time that is needed to keep your house and your whole family's clothes clean, doing grocery shopping, cooking, taking your kids to doctors, taking your pets to veterinarians, doing paperwork etc. These and more cost so many hours! Someone who works for 9 hours a day + on average at least 1 hour on the road to work and back has barely time to do even the basic tasks that do nothing career- or money-wise. This woman married to millionaire at the age of 21, she had not enough time as an adult to have these struggles because she fell into a mansion pretty quickly.

Because of that I'm severly depressed, and just staying alive is all I can handle right now. "Just breathe" is everything I can handle right now. Hearing priveleged, lucky people who have never had to experience anything like that act like it's all about your attitude and putting in the work, makes me so mad. I have fought everyday since I got sick, since I was a CHILD, just to give myself a future, and despite all the energy and strenght I have put into this battle, nothing has changed, because it's not that easy. Thank you! That girl has never had to struggle. She married a million and doesn’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. Lack of finances leads to depression because it’s super competitive out here and it’s hard to find a job if one does not have a hundreds of years of experience. And even if one finds a somewhat of a good paying job, millions are still living paycheck to paycheck. And even with that, many are suffering from non curable diseases and have to make sure they don’t get fired just because they have to go through all these scans, and bloodwork. She has no idea how hard it is out here. She doesn’t have to worry about that at all. These things leads to depression, so just even to take time to breath in the midst of the struggle is a huge deal and a accomplishment for many of us who are going through hardships. I’m not knocking her for marrying a millionaire. Good for her but she has no right to put others down with her toxic positivity because it doesn’t help anyone especially those suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts.

Although I believe his polished online personality to be a facade, Dave is smart and knows not to publicly talk shit on his cleaning lady, diss the industries that brought him success (how Rachel did with MLM), and plagiarize famous authors multiple times. Don’t forget: you can’t expect yourself to give more than your best! If things don’t work out and you did your best, it is due to factors outside your control, you’re good! Breathing maybe the best you could do that day.

Thats very true , it takes luck ( circumstances occurring that are out of ones control or often even knowlege of such circumstances existence ) to succeed . Most of these people who claim a person can do anything or be anything must have never known anyone who had a sudden stroke at a young age , or got hit by a drunk driver on the way to work , things that can strike down anyone at anytime

I don't believe in luck. It's just an excuse to explain away our failures. Just like these "gurus" use high vibes/blessings/God's favor to explain their success. Because simple "good luck" isn't marketable and scalable. Sometimes things don't work out, period. No explanation needed. We learn lessons in life, and when you build your castle on a foundation of sand, it will collapse. I.e. when you're lying to yourself to chase something you may not even be truly passionate about, you'll burn yourself out, and things won't work out. Has nothing to do with something as arbitrary and random as luck. True passion can fuel a person to overcome any obstacle. False positivity on the other hand cannot; it leads to burnout, failure, and to add insult to injury, guilt and shame for thinking "it's all your fault" and "you just don't have what it takes".

@@nikkilengyel No that is not true. Passion can't overcome any obstacle. I have seen it happen, people who gave it their everything, who loved what they do and they still didn't get what they wanted. Call it whatever you want, I know it is hard pill to swallow, passion and hard don't always win.

And the first thing I do is always go to Goodreads to figure that stuff out, and people were sounding off. When I read about that horribly toxic relationship that she committed to for life, I was flabbergasted. And not only that, but she just speaks through so much white middle-class to upper-class privilege and never had to do anything complicated in her life. The bottom line was, I was really excited to see this thumbnail in my feed because I really just want to see how it all collapsed after I left the States. The audacity of this woman to sit there and say that is just. God. Life is hell and sometimes all you can do is sit on the couch and eat ice-cream. Not every moment of your life has to be constant accomplishments and go-go-go. If I've learned anything through my experiences this past year is sometimes, recovery, pushing through, achieving the end goal, takes time, and rest. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race, and there's no shame in that.

It's more moderated for me...I tend to think that we should all strive for the next step and not fall into learned helplessness or stagnation, but the "next step" needs to be *appropriate* for your circumstances. The next step may be getting through the next few minutes in a serious crisis. A more ambitious goal may be more appropriate for someone else who has different circumstances so that they don't stagnate where *they're* at. It's individualized IMO.

We who aren't wed to a millionaire would have paid our rent/mortgage, daycare, repaired our cars, paid off a credit card balance or if we wished to blow even, say, $2000, would have included our children by taking a little holiday WITH THEM. Disney comes to mind. I actually have never owned a credit card, and mentioned that because if I personally owed on one, I wouldn't rest until it had been paid off. I exist as a minimalist and frugality actually comes naturally to me. I can't relate at all to status symbols and feel that prosperity doctrine is absolutely the antithesis of all Jesus taught. Ugh.

@@pussygalore731, you realize that people can have wonderful parents and still end up in bad places, right? In this case it’s genetic mental illness, bi-polar and schizophrenia. People need to be shop workers and road sweepers and school cooks and ALL THOSE JOBS that we can’t do without. So instead of dangling a carrot of ‘if 10,000 of you work incredibly hard doing what I tell you, then one of you might get a little of what I have’, how about just decent wages for all so that a person working full time can actually afford somewhere to live?

There are so many places in the Bible that show God's heart for the poor. He cares so much for them and His desire for people with wealth is to be generous with it, not self-seeking. There are a multitude of verses that speak to not just about money in particular, but also other things where money comes into play - putting others ahead of yourself, taking up your cross and following Him, etc. The way the Gospel is perverted is alarming to me, and I hope prosperity gospel adherents come to see Jesus for who He really is.

I can say that it is clear that Hollis was contemptuous of her target audience of chubby rubes with dull lives, duller husbands and disappointing unphotogenic children from the start. She saw them as sheep to be shorn from the very beginning. It was never a case of someone sincere getting corrupted over time by money and fame. She probably wanted to call her first book: "Girl, Wipe Your Bottom" to reflect her private low opinion of her fan base but was talked out of it by the publishers.

I agree that the truth is objective, but the only thing we can control in many situations is how we choose to react to them. I would disagree with that, just because of the ways many people use phrases like "live your truth". Often times these are not objective claims, they are life choices meant to help someone lead a more authentic life - such as changing career paths, moving countries, or coming out. I think "my truth" as a stand-in for "my authentic experience" is a beautiful thing to acknowledge, and doesn't have to be considered in any way not "THE truth"

I worked full-time as a special education teacher, went to school, and cared for my young daughter without any assistance from her father. My depression was very tangible. I should have spoke to myself with more care and love as opposed to comparing myself to a woman who was a faux facade. Please to all, love you inner self and your inner child. I know it sounds dark, but in the depths of my 10 year depressive episode were I too was catatonic, I used these stories to help realise their are people out there who have been dealt a much worse hand than myself. The thing in the end that helped the most was basically a full life restructure, moved, started a business, I was lucky I had a mother who helped supported my overheads until my brain would offer the motivation to run a business, it took 2 years. It's a hard road, please don't buy into any story that your a victim and the worlds against you, it's not real, what matters is you have a small group of good friends and the ability to put food on the table, everyone has the ability to do this outside of extreme disability or mental illness.

@@KristiLEvans1 That's extremely gross and offensive. There's a ton of true believers that follow the prosperity preachers and the mega-churches. They genuinely believe that the church they go to and the pastor they financially support are doing good things. You should see them for what they are - victims. Many of them have been groomed and raised in those kinds of churches. They were desperate or lonely and that church reached out and helped them. Love bombing is extremely common at those churches - which is a common cult tactic to draw in new members. To assume they're "greedy" or "allow themselves to be deceived" is just... victim blaming and you should be ashamed of yourself. I've heard a ton of pastors of churches that aren't prosperity gospel churches or mega churches preach that ppl should give more than they are able because God will reward them. I remember doing that myself back when I was 20. I needed that money for gas that week to last me until payday, but I put it in the offering plate instead because I believed that's what I should do - and I went to a bog standard Baptist church that considers all those televangelists and mega church pastors to be false teachers. And you know what? I ran out of gas and had to ask my parents to fill up my tank. It didn't even occur to me that I'd been played until long after my family left that church (for different reasons). I was lucky - my parents had the money and when I ran out of gas, I had literally been in the middle of pulling into our driveway.

The starry-eyed followers usually end up poorer, while people like Rachel Hollis laugh all the way to the bank. These guru's don't really give af about any one of them. It's all about the greenbacks and how much they can con you out of this week. Most of them are all about me, me, me, and need attention and it doesn't matter how they get it... or your money. According to Rachel Hollis, she now has enough money to retire and never have to work again in her young life. Why doesn't she then? It's no wonder they're so easily led astray by hyped-up influencers.

Just like every other believer in God? It's somehow different if you aren't promised a return until after you die?

More important than ever to educate teens about the toxic hustle culture. I see my daughter consuming this fantasy thinking and it worries me.

Hustle culture in a nutshell: If you just believe in yourself, i.e. never sleep, break yourself and hustle, then someday you, too, can have lots of cr*p you don't need.

Kudos to her for never being so deeply depressed that she only has positive thoughts and outlooks on life. But that's not how everyone's brain works. I'm 10 min in and her yelling/motivation videos are hurting my ears. Lmao.

It's always the people who know nothing of real struggle or loss who give the most worthless advice, or just say "get over it". I'd sure feel a whole lot better about any and everything if I had anything the world offers at my fingertips also, smfh.

I read Rachel Hollis' first two books as part of a book club and found her arrogant and unrelatable then. But what really did it for me was when she went on Good Reads to mock people who didn't rate her book very high. There is something wrong with someone who claims they have everything they deserve, but are still that worried about an negative publicity. I am not surprised she is gone now.
