Mine seems to love being handled. He'll come to the door of his cage where I open it, and wait for me to open the door, climb out himself, and often climb onto me. Some snakes are quite curious and not bothered by people and new environments, meaning they do like handling. That doesn't mean he "loves" me though, I certainly accept that it isn't due to emotional attachment.

So important to support as much of them as you can, their spine is very fragile and especially heavy bodied snakes like your boas. Noticed the heat light in the enclosure, may l suggest you put it on top of the enclosure, lve seen so many snakes with terrible burns if the heat globe is not in a caged cover. Snakes do not have the same senses as us to know they are being burnt and l would hate to see this happen to your snake.
@JossersJungle7 жыл бұрын
Yes that is an excellent idea! Burns are the worst!
@1softkiss6 жыл бұрын
Only thing about this video I don't agree with is in the beginning she states that snakes aren't pets and are only being handled for a person's own amusement which is far from the truth because as we both know our snakes love to come out of their own choice with free will and that's not for a person's amusement but for a snakes mental stimulation and physical exercise and the opportunity to express itself instead of sitting in an enclosure all of the time !!!
@Av-vs1yh6 жыл бұрын
1softkiss yes they want freedom to roam sure but being stuck handled by a larger animal that won’t let it leave isn’t preferred for them.

Well done with excellent advice. What I learned as a volunteer at Phoenix Herpetological Society from their reptile manager is that snakes that are active after being picked and removed from their enclosure have shifted to "flight" mode. That is, anxious to find an escape from handling. This is why they're often very happy to "escape" back into their enclosure.

I bought a snake 4 weeks ago he's such a sweetheart! I was happy to see that I am handeling him very well. I go have 2 questions: 1. In the store he was always outside his little cave, but now he is in his cave a lot and only goes out to drink if he needs to, or at 1/2/3am why do you think that is? If I take him out myself he is veryyyy curious and chill and when I put him back he starts looking around his terrarium but only when I took him out before... Never when he has been in there all day. 2. He has been looking at me for 10 minutes now. He hasn't moved and is keeping his neck straight into the air and his horizontal. what is going on? hahaha

I wish everyone who owns or will own snakes would watch your video. I saw another KZbinr who has a lot of subscribers (not going to say who it is) taking out her snakes and talking about them, but in order to get a good shot of the ball python I guess she dangled it (briefly at least) by the tail. I commented that she really shouldn't do that. She never commented back or addressed it, but I got a couple morons comment back that there was nothing wrong with it, and it would "only hurt big snakes". I tried telling them that the size of the snake doesn't really matter, it's not good for any snake to hold them that way. At least one person commented and said thanks, that they didn't know, but would be sure to tell their friend who was getting a ball python about this. I responded back that that's really what it's all about -- it's not a personal attack, and it's not necessarily common knowledge how to properly handle a snake without putting it at risk of injury, but if you do make a mistake and someone points it out to you to just make sure you don't do it again.
@JossersJungle6 жыл бұрын
It's a shame when the health of the snake is compromised just in order to get a good shot :-( Makes me sad. It's really great you adressed it, and hopefully a lot of people saw it and will know better. :-)

Beautiful snakes! Thanks for posting. I always use a snake hook before picking up reticulated pythons and other aggressive feeders. I rub their body gently with the snake hook. Once they have calmed down I put down the snake hook and pick them up with my hands only. A rolled up newspaper is just as effective for this purpose if you don't want to use a snake hook.

Hi! I was just wondering how often you should hold your snake in like a week?
@JossersJungle7 жыл бұрын
It's a tough question. Handling does not benefit the snake, it is only for your own amusement. I tend not to handle the snake unless I need to check their health, change their terrarium or use them in a video. But as long as your snake doesn't show sign of stress, you can basically handle it as much as you like :-)

Depends on the size and mood of the snake. and of course on where it strikes you. a bite in the face must be awfull ... i experienced bites from 2 - 8 on my hands.8 was caused by a 3 meter burmese python. he was my favorite snake though and most of the time calm.

It was nice of you to take the time to try to help others. Also, I think the glasses really work on you.

This video was very helpful and informative!! I plan to get a California king snake soon and this has given me a great outlook on how to handle one :) I love all of your videos!

Jossers Jungle your videos have certainly convinced me to get a California king :) I'm so excited! I know you mentioned that they can be aggressive or fiesty so i wasn't sure if that may be a bad thing?
@JossersJungle6 жыл бұрын
It depends on what kind of snake you like, they can be a little aggressive, but not like "jumping out to bite you" more like, shaking their tail and that kind of stuff. But in general they are really docile and awesome, just a lot more lively than ex. a ball python. If you handle 2-3 times and week and feed them well, they will treat you nicely I promise that :-)

is it ok if you smell of dog
@JossersJungle7 жыл бұрын
That should be okay, but it is always a good idea to watch your hands before handling a snake, just to be on the safe side :-)

I don't own snakes as it's just not practical for me right now but I'm very interested in them. I've never had the chance to handle one before and was worried about hurting them, especially small ones as they do seem very active. This video and your others I have seen are very informative and interesting without over complicating things. Thank you.

Thank you so much for making this video. I've grown up in a snake loving family and have lived with snakes for many many years. I've never had my own snake before and wanted to take a moment to just watch some videos on general handling. This was a very very nice video that included a couple of things that others seem not to. I really enjoyed watching it c: Good job!

Love your videos. Beautiful snakes. Interesting that you don't need to tap them to let them know it's not feeding time. Very cool.
