Damn this guy's been consistent it's almost like the storm days if ure still playing king and want easy grabs u can use u 1+2, db 2+3 and df 2+3. This first one is a one plus 2 break and the other 2 are 2 breaks but it won't really matter because people can't break grabs anyway for the most part Df2 is also a good poke because it's 13 frames and tracks better than his df1 but both are good. Kings df1 is just more steppable. U can also press down + the generic grab inputs to grab crouched people and db when there on thr floor to do floor grabs

@@Crocopotamusmeat watching means like intensely paying attention to someone. “Meat watching” specifically is watching to see if someone is having a boner. “Pocket Watching”, refers to paying attention to how much money a person has. You can basically just put any word in front of “watching” and it’ll just mean it’s something you are intensely looking out for. Grind refers to the long process of working hard on something, in this case, it refers to Afro’s training. Grind can refer to pretty much anything a person is working hard towards. A grind can typically refer to their job, working out, making money, or studying. So when he says “They’re meat watching Afro’s grind” it means people are intensely paying attention to his training/practice for the game

Yo Afro, super basic movement tip for you. When they block your 2, 1 (the two quick jabs), try sidestepping left or right immediately after. A lot of people like to mash there and you'll dodge it. Then you can launch them with your down-forward 2 and go for your big combo. Watching this training arc has been dope. Keep improving.

Most of the losses were due to character knowledge things rather than an actual skill issue. Recognizing plus frames is where we can start. Most highs are generally on the safer side. If it comes out of a stance 9/10 times it's plus on block. Slow, heavy mids that force your character to stagger backwards on block (Like drags running 2) are usually pretty plus, and finally lows that knock your character off balance like the sweeps victor and raven were doing are plus on hit but universally launch punishable on block. A good way to check your opponent for mashing is something as simple as a jab into another jab. Once they turn their brain on and start respecting the frames you can do freaky shit like Jab into D2 or Jab into throw. If you're ever not sure about a moves frame advantage the training mode has the option to turn on frame data and you can just select a move from the opponent characters move list to figure out what to do against it. Hope this helps! :)

Love that you showed you read the comments! I wanna give the same advice so that you have the pro gamer mindset! Just know your character good enough, get to know the in game fighting mechanics good enough (like movements and blocking), and then instead of always looking at your character to see if you’re doing the right moveset look at the opponents movement to be able to predict the coming attacks. It’s easier said than done but with practice it’ll be like breathing eventually.

Afro when i was at your point trying to figure out when to attack an advice Phidx(a tekken pro) gave on his youtube channel really helped me, it was this " tekken is a turn based game" what that means is once you use your attacks or pokes you have to wait for a few moments to see what your opponent does in tekken the offense takes turns, if the oppenents attacks then you block and wait to punish him if he whiffs you launch him, if he is on the ground and he moves you wait if he is on the ground and doesnt move you okizeme( that a thing in tekken) him, or if he is on the ground and tries to attack you you block

Tremendous improvement in mentally from the last video. No matter how good you are, if you aren’t a student you’ll be overtaken. If you wanna see something that really helped me look up PhiDX vs. Knee in the hotel room, it really helped me understand high level Tekken better. If you don’t know Knee is arguably the best Tekken player of all time, and PhiDX goes to his hotel room while he’s visiting from Korea and just plays/learns from him. One of the best educational tools I’ve found.

Alright imma tell you afro. From one long time causal player to a new Player. Dont let go of the grabs LOL. It's still good, the problem comes when you use the same grab over and over instead of mixing up the grab, eventually your opponent will hit the right button or buttons and then you dont get that grab for the rest of the set unless you mix it up. Do what comes natural.

I’m glad you’re really sticking with this game like you said. 1st video to this one, the progress is obvious. You’re learning patience, acknowledging areas of opportunity and improvements along hitting the Lab. This game is HARD and SO much goes into the results of a match. Like if your opponent studied their Frame Data and all other characters as well, etc. Watching your Replays and those of other players is a great tool too. Just keep going, one match a time love.

afro: dragunov is definetely your main, tekken is one of those games where you cant go from one character to another trying to find what you like unless you put a crazy amount of time on each one to feel them out. consider it a compliment when the haters say you grab more than king, they just want you to play king because hes predictable, and dragunov is a "grabby" character, but his strength lies in "pick offs" and pressure. dont focus too much on juggling for now just go through the entire moveset and make each attack intentional and muscle memory.

yo afro, don't worry about haters, just work on yourself and improve :) the most important advice is DEFINITELY play the character that appeals the most to you - play them because you like them, not because they're strong. consistency is key too, practice daily if possible, even if it's just a crappy backdash / movement training regimen, even if it's just 30 minutes, practice daily. i had to drop for a couple of days due to a medical emergency (i'm a new tekken player AND it's my first fighting game), and i went backwards in the three days i didn't touch the fighting stick. last piece of advice? replays. look at your replays. you're thinking it's just watching old matches - nope, it's WAY more. the replays will pause and show you your mistakes, show you recommended punishes, you can take control of the replay at any point and test different reactions to a situation. it's the single most powerful training tool ever seen in a fighting game, and it's magnificent. i'm a leo main myself. made it to yellow rank. dealing with spammers and knowledge checks is hell, but i'm slowly getting better - can't break throws easy, had a stroke a little over a year ago, partial paralysis in my right side and blind in one eye. you've made WAY more progress then me afro, you've gotten good really fast. you can do this. this is good ass tekken mate, keep it up, keep cookin! keep cool, keep focused, keep collected - you got this.

I don’t know much about Tekken, but I know a decent amount about fighting games in general. What you need is overall knowledge of main combos for all characters, frame rates, etc. I’m sure when it’s your turn will vary from character to character that you fight. You know enough and have the skills to use your character and get wins, you need to increase your overall knowledge of the game in general

I watched a video the other day that's been helping me. Basically, it's saying focus less on memorizing combos and more on side stepping dodging and punishing. Combos come later on I can't remember the name of the video but it opened my eyes a bit and am already noticing a difference as dodging in low level a lot of people use linear moves so its easy to punish, and supposedly becomes more important in later ranks too. Apparently if you focus on the combos too much early on you build bad habits for later which i noticed in myself. I'm on the learning journey, too, and have been thoroughly enjoying watching you and your personality on this game!

Hey Afro loving the vids. Quick way to improve on this game is to watch the replays and tips. It like literally tells you where to improve, what to punish, and like what strings you can duck in the game

NGL I usually dont comment but I just wanted to say that I just found you recently bc I download tekken and im a noob too, and i subcribed bc ur actually funny and u inspired me to also grind and finally get good at an FGC game. Seeing you go from nothing to slowly getting it honestly was cool to see keep it up dude ur hilarious and i cant wait to get (hopefully) better as you grow too.

26:08, What you did here is one big element of taking that next step in tekken. A low block to almost full air combo. If you block their low that's free damage you don't want to leave on the table. Also kind of a badass combo. You got that far to learn it, may as well learn to finish it out.

Loving the Tekken content Afro, been watching you since Sekiro came out. I am also a Tekken player for many years as well, if you ever get time, try the endless ghost battle modes it helps a lot, and you can practice without the stress, do it off stream if you need too, keep it up bro.

Afro does amazing whenever he has the underdog mentality. The second he gets cocky and talking shit its like he gives beast mode to his opponent lol
