Worth noting all of the gods were at least half if not full giants, Thor himself was 3/4 giant. Much like the Greek mythology the difference between god and giant (Titan) is mostly down to generation and choice. In many cases the "god form" is the adopted form as seen in many gods but most noticable in cases like Loki and Typhon.

Frost Giants, Titans, Nephilim, and maybe more. Why did the ancient world from different geographical locations believed in previous races of immense size? My guess, was people read the story and just retold it to suit their culture.
