I do agree that they need to address that but a possible reason could be that all the shield-sister (can’t remember her name) wanted to do was be reunited with her children while Sigrid didn’t care about going to Valhalla. Hopefully they give a proper reason next season. 3:00 Fun thing to think about: A lot of mythologists and historians are actually debating whether or not to name Norse Mythology the Germanic Mythology because, ancient germans during the reign of the romans also believed in the same religion which makes the beliefs more wide spread than previously thought and it may have originated farther east.
@Mickterminator304 ай бұрын
Jesus does not care whether you love or hate him, his care and love for humanity is eternal and forever. It does not matter whether all should turn their backs, because Jesus or God will still love and toil with humanity. The Norse and even the Greek Gods thrive on worship, without it, they cease significance and their powers will inevitably drain overtime. That is why they become desperate, angry and malicious when humans become more exclusive to their own beliefs and thoughts. Norse and Greek Gods require an almost near materialism essence and offerings almost come in the form of bronze, silver, gold and other forms of riches. But not God not Jesus, the kingdom of heaven. They require nothing else because their spiritual existence is not toiled on love or hate. This is hardly the case for Zeus let alone Thor or Odin. On this basis, Odin has every right to be terrified, his entire pantheon will eventually cease to exist along with him (Odin is more human than he thinks based on his need for constant worship and attention, similar to a social media content creator, or Homelander).

I've been wanting a series on Norse Mythology for years, and while this has certainly changed... quite a few things, to say the least... still better than whatever the Hel Disney's "nOrSe mYtHoLoGy" was, because Dinsey's work regarding the mythology is an insult to say the least. It's hard to tell how much of the original myths still persist today, and how much were Christian Scholors trying to Christianize the Norse Faith, or vice-versa. As someone whose heritage goes back to those Vikings; the people of the Norse Mythos, I can't help but wonder how much of my ancestor's heritage and stories have been twisted or outright lost. Either way, even if it's not entirely accurate, I'm glad to see that Norse Mythology is getting a chance to shine again. Even other mythologies like the Greek Mythos are making a comeback lately with things like Epic: The Musical from Jorge Rivera-Herrans, which beautifully retells the story of the Odessey.

I remember reading somewhere once that similarly to how folk traditions often got fused with Christianity by new converts, particularly in Latin America, the same practices took place in Europe. This led to holdovers from paganism continuing in new forms with new spiritual application, like the practice of bringing the evergreen tree into the home at the time of Winter Solstice/Christmas for example. This also would take place in the oral traditions of the mythic cycle, with Ragnarok ending the world and a new man and woman emerging to start life on Midgard anew. Essentially this allowed Europeans to keep their heads and follow the new religion of Christianity while still being able to revere the stories and gods of old and pass those traditions on, allowing them to practice both religious traditions during that transitional time of Roman conquest and proselytizing. An interesting theory or observation, and may be sort of what the story of TOTG is pointing too. Also reminds me of Ray Winstone's animated Beowulf film with Christianity and it's role being explored. Just like with that story, a traditional pagan tale is given Christian flourishings like Grendel being a descendant of Cain because the audience of those stories were newly converted Christians still very aware of their previous mythological system.

How did they take Sigrid to Valhalla while they didn’t take her friend for owing the weapon?

I think her killing the god cancels the curse, i believe he explain it when they got the weapon since she killed badlr therefore the curse was cancelled when she got killed. This is why loki was thinking when after thor got taken to Valhalla killing sigurd so she can go there to kill him herself.

@@willbrink The Director's Cuts are exponentially better, yes. Granted, I personally think the theatrical cuts aren't actually all that bad, and are, in the very least, functional films, but they're certainly lacking in the proper character development and worldbuilding in the Director's Cuts, making the theatrical cuts hollow and neutered as a result. Blame Netflix for that, they thought it would be a good idea to reach greater mass appeal by putting out the PG-13 cuts first... and apparently, they were actually right about that presumption, since they actually ranked #1 in the Netflix movies list upon their release. Can't say whether or not a considerable percentage of those views were hatewatching, since Snyder haters have nothing better to do with their lives, but regardless, the numbers don't lie. Despite how egregiously the first two films were dragged through the mud, there is still tangible demand for Rebel Moon. Things can only go up from here.

funny, odin vision of the christ is both of the past and future. Norse myth are younger than christianity but in different part of the world. So odin desire to know the future lead him to contact another religion, one older and more powerful than them. the root of christianity are way older than the norse. Jesus taking a peek at odin is funny.

i dont understand this new trend of making Odin and Thor bloodthirsting, selfish and evil gods, Thor is literally god of the common folk, protector of mankind, he is only depicted as agressive in the myths when performing his duties of protector, at any other time he is just hangin around eating drinking and having a good time with the other gods, or with mankind and even with the jötunn, and Odin is such a complex being, god of war, death wisdom, magic, poetry and so so many other things, for the love of the gods, he is not a bad father, he respects guides and teaches his sons, when Baldur dies he gets on his horse and goes to Hellheim to find a way to get his son back, he goes to battle knowing he is going to die, just to give the new world a chance, he orders that a man and a woman be hidden inside a tree so that mankind may be saved. Im sorry about this rant, im just tired of shallow interpretations of these wonderful Gods, storys and wisdom that the norse mythology gives us.

@CatMaster900012 ай бұрын
Same, actually. I'm an agnostic atheist myself, and I never once have ever been bothered by Zack Snyder's Christian symbolism in his work, something that Zack's critics can never stop whining about. It's no secret that Zack himself was raised Christian Scientist, so it's clear to see how that would have an influence on his work. However, unlike a lot of so-called Christian "filmmakers," i.e. the disrespectful hacks behind the God's Not Dead films, Zack does the smart thing and doesn't try to shove the religion down anyone's throat, but instead utilizes the mythological aesthetics to convey artistic meaning and narrative depth. Zack succeeds in translating the Christian experience to a secular audience on a visual and emotional level. Thus should be the goal of any artist worth their salt when dealing with mythological themes of the Abrahamic pantheon.

Perhaps the biggest change in the series is the depiction of Loki as a villain, although in the real mythology, Thor and Loki are the best bros until Loki causes Baltur's death and goes too far in his tricks. Even when Loki steals Thor's hammer for the Jotuns and the Jotuns demand Freija in exchange for the hammer, Loki comes up with the idea of disguising Thor as Freija and together they teach the Jotuns a lesson and return the hammer.

I'll give the show this: out of all the characters they animated to perfection, Thor was it. His powers showed to be immense, his ego matched only with his father's and his fighting animation was beautiful. I hated him all the way through (which is what was to be expected) and was actually hoping someone would've put him in his place. This is where the negatives come in...Baldr knew and saw the ruthlessness of his brother, yet when he too saw Loki wasn't to be found the first time, he didn't do a damn thing to stop Thor from killing Sigrid's family. It would've made more sense if he did know Loki was lurking about, but still chose to do nothing, but that didn't show to be the case. Loki came away as most likely a fan favorite and Leif wasn't too bad either. Another thing that doesn't sit well with me was the death of Sigrid's friend. She had wielded a cursed weapon intent on killing gods, yet when she was slain in battle, she wasn't taken to Valhalla...but Sigrid dies having been handling the same kind of weapon and is too slain on the battlefield...yet she gets to go. Was it because one was holding her weapon when she died and the other wasn't? And for weapons forged of god killing metal, NOT ONE WEAPON REALLY KILLED ANY IMPORTANT GOD CHARACTERS! They all killed background characters of the realm, but not one even made a scratch on Thor, the guy who the weapon's were intent for! I feel like show was trying to be a mashup of Blood of Zeus and The Legend of Vox Machina mixed in with some gore and lore of GoW Ragnorak. Aeil's character was meant for what, being the bi bard who told the story of how he and his young boyfriend got together one night and made it sound like the relationship was forced against his will, when in the future he's perfectly fine getting sandwiched? So what the hell was that part even for?! Speaking of confusion: Thor and Sif. One moment she's cheering Sigird's cause on, even wanting her to make herself a widow. Then when the battle reaches them, she's telling Baldr to help his brother survive and "make it last a little longer". What lane are we driving in?!!
@OmarLuisSuarez4 ай бұрын
The animation and the style of the cartoonists really hooked me. I think the series is different from everything I've seen about Norse mythology in a good way. I think the artistic licenses are consistent with the story that is told. I think it should be understood that the creators are inspired and based on the myths of the sagas, but they don't try to recreate them, at least not faithfully because they have artistic interests involved, and that, on this occasion, I think is fine.
