Hi Steven, what a wonderful collection 🤩 these clockwork locomotives are a good alternative to DCC: you can run several locomotives at once. I am seriously considering to buy a few, they are absolutely adorable and I am definitely not going the DCC way.

@carlgauntletttrains3026 Tganjs Carl, glad you enjoyed the vid. The clockworks had a space early on in the evolution of the hobby, they are all but forgotten now. But they are a nice novelty to have. Steven.

Hi Steven, Jouef produced some very good Locos especially their Steamers. Your 140 looks and runs very well, being belt drive its smooth and quiet. The clockwork Locos are an interesting collection, they run very well considering their age. The last 0-4-0 really surprised me how long it ran and at a good speed. You certainly have an impressive collection of these older Locos. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏

@paulvozman842 Hi Paul, You either love or hate Jouef. The setups are easily the most frustrating to maintain. But if you put the effort in, they are quality to own and run. The electric 0 4 0 was a real challenge to get running, it is a very crude mechanism and the motors can struggle to run. The older trains are nice things to have, they have character. I just have to track down a Mountain class, they are a rare bird down here. Steven.

The C 140 is gorgeous Steven. You certainly have some great stuff in your collection. David.

@trainsontuesday Thanks David. When I saw one running on Patrick's channel, I started hunting one down. This was the only one on ebay in Australia, so I made an offer and he accepted. I like collecting the vintage trains each manufacturer produced, it's quite nostalgic. I've finally started to get my oldest son interested in trains. He came over the other day and ended up staying for a few hours playing trains. He hadn't seen much of what I have got until now, and is now talking about building a layout for his sons. A succession plan is falling into place. Steven.

@@stevenpeaketrainsandstuff3682 I like that, I've been quite a loner in my railway interests, no other family members to share it with.

Thanks Erik. Very occasionally little gems like these show up on ebay. They didn't garner much interest from other bidders in those days. I liked the workmanship that went into them. Almost little works of art. Steven

Hi Steven, that's a nice 140c you've got! And you have a nice collection of Jouef stream locos, including an 040TA tank engine. Your 140c has the older 3-pole motor, you can reduce some of the growling by adding a micro drop of a 50/50 mix of swing machine oil and grease (I use technical petroleum jelly) to the motor bearings using a needle. How caked up was the drive mechanism on yours?
@stevenpeaketrainsandstuff36823 ай бұрын
@@patricksmodels Hi Patrick, the mechanism and contacts were filthy. I ended up pulling it all apart and gave them a bath in methylated spirits. It was a Fiddly job but there was so much old grease on the axles they were a bit stiff to turn. The motor is in good condition, I did put lithium grease on the motor bearings and it ran quiet for a little while. Unfortunately the rattle has returned. I'll give it a little bit more to see if it helps. I've got quite a few diesels as well, they all run very well considering the old style chunky gears.

@@stevenpeaketrainsandstuff3682 mine was in the same state, lots of old gunked up grease. Somebody had fiddled with it and one of the clips that connect the valve gear to the running plate was disconnected. The drive belt was shot, so I bought a pair of new silicone ones on eBay, I had posted you the name of the seller in a previous comment. Mine is slightly newer with burnished linkage and the silent 5-pole motor. The 3-pole ones always make that grinding noise. I've got two 040TA tank engines, the closed cab version has the noisy 3-pole and gear drive, while the open cab one has the 5-pole and belt drive.
