Interesting information about early Flieschmann models and running the UP Mikado.

This is just a follow up to yesterday's video. Also give a tip on how i fix valve gear that loses its quartering when the locking bracket has been destroyedthrough over tighteningvetc. . It will get you out of a bind. HO collector was invaluable in providing much of the information I spoke about. It's a very good resource.

Part of the story is that there was a need to get the German people working and this sort of product was ideal. It was safe, non controversial ( not war related) and as said there was a ready market with the well paid G.I.'s. The switcher doesn't look too much oversized and that paint does look like a factory finish. When it comes to repairs, identifying the problem will often lead to a solution. The cotton bud plastic sticks have found many uses on my railway. Some nice running from the Mikado today. Cheers, David.

@trainsontuesday The cotton budget sticks are a ready-made solution to any number of problems David. I was more than pleased with this fix though. Valve gear can be a right pain when it goes sloppy. They did a nice job on the Mikado, the motor is incredibly powerful, well geared and no slippage. Steven.

Finding parts for the 1367 will be a hard job, especially since the complete motor unit is missing, which together with the bogies is the part that most often gets lost. The motor is technically the same as the 1340, but with a way longer chassis and a different magnet setup. Your catalog is way too recent to include the metal body version of the US market locomotives

Yeah the metal bodies got replace with the cellulose plastic, I've got a few of them that have warped a bit. I've download a few of the early catalogues, they are quite interesting. Steven.

Hi Steven, some interesting facts about these Fleischmann Locos and how you managed to repair the connecting rods. Whoever painted the red awitcher did a great job, as you said it could be a factory finish. The Mikado is a fine looking and running Steamer, it pulled the heavy tinplate coaches with ease. @paulvozman842 Hi Paul, I like discovering the history of these companies. You forget how Germany was divided for so long and was home to so many US soldiers who had to be catered for. It makes sense that they had children who wanted toys with an American flavour. I'm now convinced the paint job is factory, it is finely applied and there are no tell-tale blemishes that most of us make. I hope somebody out there may know either way. The Mikado, although primitive looking, runs very well for its age. It dates back to 1960, it has lasted quite well. Steven.
