Picked up this LP in the summer of 76 after hearing this track and the title track on the local FM radio station CHUM- FM, I was a teen and into Rush, Nugent, Kiss, Aerosmith etc and when I heard these tracks I had to get the album, to this day Look Into The Future is my favorite Journey album, can't stand the Perry era although he is a good singer, Rollie will always be my fav and Schon kicked ass back then, their subsequent album NEXT was a killer too, check out Karma from that LP. Miss those days of discovering all the new kickass music and LP;s as a teen.

Neal Schon is one of the greatest and incredible blues rock guitarists of all time. Inspired by Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton ✨️ and then Carlos Santana. He has taken it to another level; so much beautiful blues phrasing and then played with such power and speed. He just blew my mind all the times I saw them live. Winterland 1975; Look Into the Future! Then "Next"- Nickle and Dime would start playing and the band would come out. So exciting. I love those shows! New Years Eve 1977-78 with Santana at the Cow Palace was their last concert as this line-up. Thank you Journey. 🕉

It's really sad that this type of rock has left us. And even a sad reality is those us who has the opportunity to see bands like this play are gone. It shouldn't be the end of good taste and individual musical freedom where one band or musician sounds like another but unfortunately it seems to come to pass.

This was a great album - really the best musicians from Santana doing their own thing. Greg Rolie, the voice of Santana, Neil Schon the young guitar disciple. Aynsley Dunbar on drums. I saw them live in Seattle opening for ZZ Top and they kicked ass. Adding Steve Perry brought the band a more distinctive recognizable sound, but I really liked this lineup.

Most mainstream song from Journey's original lineup. Interesting that whereas Rollie and Schon had been in an extremely commercially successful band with Santana (albeit one prone to jamming and experimentation), they were content for Journey to dwell in the Progressive underground, not noticing or caring their music wasn't charting.

This is the style of the the music back then! Jams, instrumental, (Pink Floyd, Santana, LED Zeppelin, Deep Purple), the wonderous solos that each member used to play to show off their own talents. When Journey asked Steve Perry to join, they leaned into vocals cuz of Steve’s voice capabilities, which meant shorter songs. Neal’s guitar is still real prevalent and soars in almost every tune they do. But now look who started up. MTV. So as our culture would change, we could watch it. Big hair bands, grunge, country. Our band Journey hasn’t sunk yet.

Neal Schon Fan page cookie duster? I don't know why that doesn't sound familiar,since I'm a rabid early journey freakazoid,even the 1st few steve perry era albums,prior 2 'escape',but even that wasn't bad,not is any journey release,but it's all about the golden years of the early era,now isn't it? It's really shocking how many hardcore journey fans are clueless 2 those 1st 3,how do they not know? I knew about them 4 years,got 'next' in vinyl,but the 1st 2 took me years 2 find,they're like a holy grail 4 vinyl,alright? I love turning peeps onto it,playing a guessing game,and so far,no one has gotten them,which makes it sound brand new all over again,which is a testament 2 their groundbreaking early sound,truly. JOURNEY RULES\m/!

This is a cool video but have to say, I learned of this phase of Journey after I got Departure. People rip on Perry because they say he made them "commercial"but he's the voice i caught Journey with.,,,then I picked up the first 3 albums and was turned on to them BECAUSE of that. Great music and I love the first 3 albums too but if it wasn't for Perry, Journey would be one of those bands like Cactus, that had great musicians and tunes but would have been relegated to just us that know that. "Teach your children well" is good for music. Listen to what you like but dig deeper to what came before and influenced those bands that have the sounds you like :)

There is no reason. other then horrendous management and record company, that this would not of been a killer single then. Just shorten it down to 4 mins taking some of the jamming out and it sounds like many other hits of the day.
@gypsyjhoni7 жыл бұрын
Todd Stevens the album version is about 4 minutes,but the live version is exactly what it should be,extended/fierce,WOW! But hey,it was the 70s,and they were allowed 2 experiment 4/3 entire LPs,a concept that would be verboten in 2017,dig? LOVE EARLY JOURNEY THEIR BEST WORK INDEED \m/

They could have been as well respected as Rush (and maybe as big) if they had stuck to this lineup.
@blowsagainsttheempire96587 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and much like Rush, Journey also thought their fourth album would be their last. I guess Columbia didn't have the guts to take the risk that Mercury took... And what did Columbia get for it? A short-lived pop group while Mercury got to hold onto a band that has delighted generations of fans to this day.
@gypsyjhoni7 жыл бұрын
deathmetaldouglas69 I say that all the time,OK? They might not've been as big in the states,but the world would've embraced that sound,right up there w/yes/rush/kansas/Styx/ELP/Tull/focus/RTF/mahavishnu orchestra/Jan hammer group/etc.,etc.,etc. Neal is probably going 2 revisit that sound,once journey calls it a day,since he already touches on it w/his solo outings. That last journey tour will be an event 2 attend,'cos they'll probably pull out all the stops,going back 2 the 3 chestnuts,as well as bringing back in steve perry 2 bid a fond adieu,OOH?!?!?! JOURNEY LOOK INTO THE FUTURE NEXT \m/
@wheelinthesky3007 жыл бұрын
Really? Rush blew the lid off the charts when they shortened things up and made their songs radio-friendly. Before that, they had a considerably smaller, though dedicated audience. There is no reason to believe this Journey lineup was going to achieve same.
@deathmetaldouglas697 жыл бұрын
"There is no reason the believe this Journey lineup was going to achieve same." I just gave the reason and it is up to you to come up with a tangible argument other than saying IT would NOT have happened. You offer nothing for your hypothesis. Fact is the first three Journey albums outsold the first three Rush albums so I believe there was a good chance for them to have had a happy Rush-like career if Steve Perry had not come on board. This version of Journey were already starting to sound commercial yet management wanted a front man. Although they were big already with long tunes, Yes wrote shorter songs later and saved their career as well. All Journey would have really needed was a razor blade to edit the reel-to reel tapes to shorten the tunes for radio play.
@deathmetaldouglas697 жыл бұрын
"shortened things up and made their songs radio-friendly". You mean like the commercial song Fly by Night that they made a promo video for? Oh wait, that was from their 2nd album in '75. Your point?
