You are a very courageous young woman, and amiable. Just so you know: this current INFLATION has my wife and I counting pennies just to keep food on our table...literally (we are both 75). However, be assured: you have 2 folks here in Florida who are keeping you in their daily prayers. God keep you safe always! B

Nice video Lauren. As someone who is working on her own boat, in time, you will learn the importance of a no wake zone within the marina. A wake comes along and disturbs all of the parts you have laying out that you were so carefully trying to keep in order. Perhaps a small point to some. To others it can be very important.
@davidmalone90222 жыл бұрын
Definitely not a small point. That was the point at which I scrolled down to look at the comments, knowing someone would mention it. Otherwise, I'm really enjoying browsing through your videos, Lauren.

Its hard to know all the why's of your projects without starting at the beginning. As im waiting for my transmission i might as well occupy my mind. As your aware of, its the hardest part of the project. You did really well with your purchase. The items you had to replace are pretty much normal. The windlass was a bazinga! Though. They aren't that hard to maintain. Obviously the pervious owner didn't pay attention to it. But overall there's not a lot of real problems. Replacing the engine was actually a great idea. The warranty alone is a huge benefit. The electrical is one of those maintenance things. I use dielectric grease on all the connections. Its crazy how fast corrosion happens. Its fun to catch up and see the boat take its present form. And Mako was so tiny! Thanks for sharing your story. It really is nice to have something to look forward to. And time to wait some more...... uuuhg.

You're quite the Gal to fly from Joplin, MO to Ft. Lauderdale to begin a new adventure with a large sailboat ! Obviously , there are many issues to fix before heading out to sea with having a deadline ! I must say, You are handling it very well with all the stress !!! I love that you want to fix as much as you can on your own ! You seem very smart to me ? Did I mention I went to school in Orlando, FL to be a Marine Technician ? I fixed boats for 8 years in Illinois. I subscribed to see how far you have come on fixing & operating your new boat ! BTW, A BIG CONGRATULATIONS on you buying that boat ! So this is your first video, I’m 2 years behind but I’ll catch up. I sent you a message regarding safety swimming in waters regarding currents and sharks. I learn about underwater currents the hard way. Back in 1985 my brother and I went swimming in P.R. (Northern coast) and we were caught in a currents drifting out. It was late summer and the beach was empty. We tried to swim back but the current kept taking us out further. At this point my brother started to panic saying he was getting too tired. I told him let’s just float and figure something out, luckily after being taken pass a cliff we seen some guys surfing and they came out to us and said if we swim sideways we would escape the current.

I have a 1980 thompson 20 ft. When I bought the boat 2 yrs ago. I started remodeling the whole boat. The bilge pump was intimidating for me to. But I put a new one in and a float switch. Just had a starter silinoid go out 3 weeks ago just fixed that. Hoping to get back out on the water before fall gets here. Be safe enjoy your adventures

Just found your channel. Mosquitoes: where I live they are bothersome. I sleep under a mosquito net. Should be possible on your boat when they are too much of a nuisance. Yes, it makes it hotter at night, but with a fan, it's workable. You may only need that once in a while, but it's nice when needed. Also, there are really nice m. coils that when in an enclosed space keep them under control, and the fire in the coils is very safe.

having grown up in south florida living on a sailboat from the age of 6. I'm very familiar with up-keep and a WIDE assortment of ongoing costs. Which leads me to my very important question which I think ALL people would love to know, in case they would like to attempt this life for awhile. You're on a 51' sailboat by yourself!!? what do you do to fund not only these 'trips', but also ongoing normal operating costs? do you discuss ANY of this in your episodes? if so.....which episodes? i believe myself and others would love to know. peaceful journeys to you (curious).
