I graduated room a small school ..Indiana. Auburn in 1961. The cry," remember Milan" was still bouncing off the walls. Whether it be the coaches, the players or what ever, the big dream of one day being at the Butler Field House was the largest. We never were great. But by my GOD, we all had that dream. Milan, by far was not the smallest school. There were many having less than 100 students. What Milan showed was the giants have the same weaknesses as the little school. No ever told Milan they could not win. 12 players, with a dream took on that mighty Muncie Central. Like Goliath, the giant fell to David. Ivwill always remember Milan. We, at Auburn, had that same dream. YES WE CAN..

I was thrilled to have been at the Milan gym in 1968 when the Straughn Indians played there! Our little school was even smaller than Milan, and just to be in the building was an unforgettable moment!

I love Hoosiers. Small town South Dakota HS basketball has the same feel. Sometimes the small schools can compete at the highest levels but don’t. They just destroy everyone in their class.

Milan was literally standing in the middle of the floor holding the ball for almost 5 mins running out the clock.

The game was not like the movie at all. It was the big city team that was nervous at the beginning of the game. Milan was beating the bid city team off the dribble and got off to a fast start in the first half. And went into half with a 10 point lead. In the Third quarter the City team calmed down and a took the narrow 1 point lead going into the fourth quarter. With the City team up by 5 points in the four quarter, Millian ran the clock down almost 5 min. Then the City team choked and turn the ball over three times and Millian scored twice back to back to win.

Yep, they were behind 28-26 at the time and Central just figured let them do it, since they were ahead.

The biggest shame is when the liberals of Indiana took over and made class basketball It’s a shame they destroyed Hoosier hysteria They should have comprises played a single tournament every 2 or 4 years

You don’t think different classes are necessary? I think two classes per state is perfect - last I checked my state now has 4-5 classes now which I admit is way too many

i grew up in Argos, IN. The last small school to ever make it to the finals. That was in 1979. They went to a class system in 1997-1998. It was not a liberal/conservative thing. It was the reality that the small schools really could not compete with the bigger schools. It was a rare thing anyways. We came closest since Milan, but there wasn't a team before or since. Everyone was a little bit upset when the changed, but it was probably for the best.
