Every year in the East Bay of California, about 12 miles or so from SF, my local radio station would play this song on the 4th of July right before the fireworks at the local park started. They cued the music on the radio so it synced with the fireworks. This song with forever remind me of those summer nights with my family.

@ I lived in Dublin. I believe it’s 101.7 KKIQ. The fireworks would start at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton & at Central Park in San Ramon at the same time timed to the music on the radio. I lived on a hill in Dublin, so we could see both from our house.

Rock started in the 50's. Great music started then, then came the 60's and 70's and the best music ever. The 80's added on some great bands. I was born in 1949 and my peers and I know we were privileged to be part of the Greatest Music generation. There's still a lot of us around. 😁

Before Covid- my daughter and myself had the privilege of greeting Steve perry at a breakfast location which he eats always on Sunday. Steve asked -my daughter (age 16 at the time) what is your favorite song- she said" When you love a woman" -Steve took the time to tell us how he wrote part of the song and sang a couple words from the song to us-what a nice gift that was.

So Matthew, is it safe to say that you have never been to San Francisco? Because Journey and San Francisco go hand in hand. I really don't think that people cry too easily, I just think that they all know a good thing when they see it or hear it! You should watch some clips on KZbin of Steve Perry singing along to his songs at the Giants games. Make sure to watch the crowd... because they all sing along and look like the happiest people, ever. Find some time to take a trip out there, it might just change your life.

Blunder, Perry was the reason Journey went to the top. The way I see it, Schon is the one who have super ego who always gave Perry very hard times, he was so jealous that Perry overshadowed him. I never had the best relationship with my father. In my younger years, it was different; as time went on, the proliferation of internet technology and a bad drinking habit changed him beyond recovery. That topic never really had a resolution. We (the family) all separated from him some time ago, and he died about a year back. The only good things that I can remember about my dad was his taste in music, and the impression that his tastes had on mine. We never got to make up, but this one's for you, dad. 🍻

My Dad grew up next door to some of the band members and used to drive them to band practice in the 70’s. So I grew up listening to Journey. My grandma still lives next door to some of the guys parents. Anyways my Dad passed away four years ago. My three year old son never met him, however he eat, sleeps and breathes Journey. Funny thing is that I don’t listen to Journey, because it would just make me miss my Dad and make me cry. So he picked that up on his own. He dances around the living room putting on his own little Journey concerts. So there’s hope :) for the younger ones.

In my 50's now, but every time i hear this song it takes me back to my younger days and all the memories come flooding back. When your young all you wanna do is grow up fast where no one can tell you what to do. When your all grown up and no one is telling you what to do anymore you would give anything to go back to those days when they were. Enjoy your youth, but dont be quick to grow up.

wormyish Freddie Mercury was more of a frontman than a singer. Yes, Freddie can sing, but somehow I don't imagine Freddie singing a song as challenging as Mother, Father. I can imagine Steve Perry singing the Queen songs well. Freddie's gift was how he was able to motivate the audience. And Freddie did all the wrong things when it came to voice care: he smoked which messes up your lungs and he drank alcohol which reduces the fluid in the circulatory system which supplies the vocal folds.
@nonoyobeezewax9527

B Martin No way....Steve's voice is too squeaky for Queen. He doesn't even sing in the same range as Freddy. If you believe that Freddy couldn't sing "better" then you are very mistaken. Freddy way a whole lot better than you give him credit for, and Steve could never write music as "complicated" as Queen's.
