I've heard every single Perry track with Journey (as well as his solo material) too many times to count and the highest note that I believe he ever hit was in 'Sweet and Simple' from the Evolution album. He just goes into another stratosphere! After the guitar solo when he sings, "it's WHA-AT I like to do...." Phenomenal control.

Nah-uh! This song gots some high notes for sure, but I know a song that beats it when it comes to the highest register I ever heard that came out of Steve Perry's mouth. It's a song that is coupled with "The Wind's of March." The song that I am referring to is called: "You've Got Somethin' to Hide." I believe these songs can be found on Journey's first release with Steve Perry.(Infinity) These two songs back to back, in my opinion as a musician; is the best two songs vocally and musically that I have ever heard in my entire life. And I just turned 67 on April 23rd., 2019. NOBODY sang as good as Steve Perry, when it came to live concerts, records, and cd's. I know, I saw him on his birthday in 1994, in Columbus, Ohio; at the Palace Theatre.

I remember hearing all those notes in the other songs mentioned in the comments. How he even hit this note, boggles the mind. There were other videos I saw/heard in the past that compiled highlights. And what a shame that the band (or should I say Neal, maybe Cain too) won't play anything anymore from their first three albums. When Rolie left so did the chemistry that existed between him and Perry trading off on vocals. That was one of the great things about Journey when Perry joined the band on their fourth album.

Homemade Love has the highest note, perhaps, of any studio recording of Steve Perry. 1:36, 2:40, 2:47 & 2:48 where he hits the whistle register each time. And we're NOT talking about falsetto, but what's called "flip" voice. Geddy Lee of Rush sang in flip voice most of his career, if you want another example of flip voice. Rick Emmett of Triumph, too. Flip voice is not considered "regular" voice.

I Googled "of all the songs Steve Perry sang with Journey what song was his highest note?" and it went straight to this song. Btw, I pulled this up from that answer. Of course I do know that this can be argued easily. La do da, Mother Father, Wheel in the Sky next to Neil's guitar, and several others. TBT, I'm not sure we really know which one is the highest. I do know this though, he is the best and has the highest register and clearest register of anyone anywhere ever. Best voice in the world. Steve Perry - "The Voice"

Damn that's high, but that note and the three which preceded it were in a very weak falsetto with zero power behind it. Perry hit higher notes in a high chest/throat voice on the departure tour which IMO was his peak vocally. Listen to the Osaka show 1980, it's on KZbin, Perry is absolutely insane, in fact the whole band is shit hot. The Departure tour was the best tour Journey ever did, that was the bands absolute peak IMO.

What about him hitting a crazy-high note at around minutes 3:20-3:26 on the song "Anyway" here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJfZiX6GqLyeq8k ?

I do agree with most that the Perry/Rollie vocal paring was the high point of Journey's vocals. But how about little appreciation for Ross Valory's bass work here. The worst thing Steve Perry did in his Journey tenure was forcing that excellent musician (along with Steve Smith) out of the band for the "Raised on Radio" album. I've always thought he was as much a part of the band's musical sound as Neil Schon.

Though I like Journeys 1st 3 albums they did have much commercial success and Journey would have faded away had management not made changes. Now their first 3 albums are more popular than ever.

GR's version is superior, even though SP's vocals are better, they'll never top those 1st 3 SP free LPs,why they don't play those songs live is strange, since it was their best work, but SP brought the Benjamins,eh? FROM PROG 2 ARENA RAWK \m/

Not Perry's band. They got him to make money from the bubble gum crowd. It worked. Music went from inspirational masterpieces to same ol #¿¢%

I preferred the original studio version sung by Gregg Rolie (pre-Steve Perry). The addition of Steve ruined this band for me...though millions of teens during the early 80's thought different I suppose.

you think Greg Rollie is a better singer than Steve Perry, I guess Ansley Dunbar was a better drummer than Steve Smith too

Michael Warner You said it, not me. I'm sure if you asked Steve Smith, he'd agree. He'd also sight Mr. Dunbar as one of his influences, along with Jon Hiseman, Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer, Bobby Caldwell, etc. What drummer coming up during the late 60's thru the 70's wasn't influenced by Aynsley? (correct spelling by the way). The fact you don't know who he is only proves your ignorance. And yes, to my ears Gregg Rolie (correct spelling by the way) is by far a better singer. IMO Steve Perry was/is a poseur and had a very irritating whiny voice. Gregg on the other hand had a much more soulful distinct style, and sang with feeling. I never got any of that from Mr. Perry. This is my opinion, to which the last time I checked, I'm entitled to.

Poser (correct spelling BTW) ok yes you are entitled to your opinion and I loved the band with Greg Rolie in it, I just think in terms of range and sheer vocal strength Steve Perry is by far the better singer, just my opinion

Michael Warner Lol...correct spelling? Well, I guess it depends where you're from. Judging by your comment, it seems you reside in the USA (lucky guess?), a country known for bastardizing the English language, even though "poseur" has French origins. As I'm from Canada (and completed the 3rd grade), it's spelled correctly. As would be the words colour, favour, flavour, harbour, and dozens of others, had I decided to use them. This might help aid you with the correct spelling of the word "poseur" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/poseur It's no wonder that on a world scale, your country's educational standards and scores are so low.
