Before Steve Perry, right? They were a mix of Jazz fusion and other styles. Totally different than the Perry yrs. Brilliant players. I can't even remember the names......"Next". Maybe "Look into the Future". Were those a couple? God, it's been so long. I think a guy name Robert Fleischman was the original singer. Maybe. If I remember right. Now I'll have to go GOOGLE it.

@@sdc7823 Fleischmann was not in the original journey. He was a guy they were looking at when they found perry. Think the live stuff he did with journey is still on YT. Just before infinity. He wasn't bad.

@@jeffroegner1499 As far as Fleischman it has him listed briefly as a singer before Perry. You said maybe on some live stuff. Whatever it was,.it was brief. Most of those first 3 albums were alot of instrumental stuff. Then Perry came and Infinity was released. I wasn't a huge fan of their music at all, but those albums with Greg Rolie singing some with Perry were best. Infinity, Departure and Evolution albums were really good. Then a live album "Captured" did well. After Rolie left and Jonathon Cain joined, I know they hit the stratosphere,.it just seemed more ballad driven and while I didn't hate it, I just lost interest. No matter what, Schon will always be know as a phenomenal guitar player

That album was recorded at the Plant Studios in 1985, I was the owner at the time, some great records done in those 3 studios. Neal had this ability to create interesting melodies just noodling around on an acoustic while chatting to someone. I never saw anyone who was so creative unintentionally while thinking of something else. Steve and Neal doing a collaboration would be magical. There was some conflict during the production of that album due to Steve co producing so the long time bass player and Steve Smith the jazz drummer left and suddenly it came together. Some of the best records were done under interpersonal tension. Also done at that studio was much of the Fleetwood Mac Rumours was done when the two couples were breaking up amid lots of screaming, anger and tears.

Holy shit! So cool! Sams always on and neal shreads the shit out that hollowbody! He fits so many notes into a small space, and with so much feel and vibe! Not many players can do that! He's definitely one of the best lead and rhythm players of all time . And sams standing Hampton record was one of the best records of all time! Two world class artists doin what they love! Love the show Sam! Thnx. God bless!

A master of melodic shred. Steve Lukather is another guy that's great at that.
@michaeljohnson72762 жыл бұрын
Great comparison Andrew! Steve Lukather is probably the only other exception in that category! He is also amazing ! as a giitar player myself, knowing how hard that is to do. Even hendrix didnt have that much speed ,mixed with feel! Totally insane amounts of talent there! Toto and Lukather are so underrated. Neal and Luke's style are verry similar😎

So great. 2 legends laying it down. Neal as wishy-washy as always. Sam's always been the real deal. Bless em both

Wishy washy? How could anyone choose just one with all the questions he was asked?

It's great to hear that Schon still respects Steve- I would hope so. Let's see what Perry Says. Steve needed space- alot of it. To reclaim his life back & get peace as a human being. I missed Steve so much. The music industry can be hell & it takes a toll. I respect Steve for stepping away. And He found love. I hope that Neal & Steve have/will bury the PAST. Whether together or Solo- these are 2 of the purest musicians on the planet!

Neal is just saying he’d like to work and or collaborate with Steve again, but that’s only if Steve is interested and wants to. It’s still kinda a one sided thing. There is bad blood still between Neal and Steve. Im guessing from Steve parting ways with Journey in late 90s. I do think it’s time to make peace with each other and let past issues in past and see if they can move forward in some way at the very least a friendship if no music comes of it oh well. I’d like them to at least be friendly and communicate with one another again. He’s waiting on Steve. I feel Neal would have to meet him face to face for coffee or dinner. Not a shout out or saying it in a video.

I love Neal's guitar lines and grew up thinking he could make me fly(just like EVH)the things coming out of their amps just blew me away(both the slow melodic melodies and the ripping fast links 😎👌 this was such a treat and sammy is a beast, he can rock and bring a party literally anyway 👏

Stone in Love is one of the smoothest guitar solos ever. His guitar doesn’t over power but flows naturally.

Sam and Neal have a great groove and sound great together- always have. Neal plays really "tasteful" leads, fills and shreds that completely compliment the music and always lands on his feet. Just a great era we live in to continue to see and hear this stuff.

Love these guys, have always kept the “Rock Bones” in whatever style of music there’re into! Only complaint is…. It ain’t long enough for me, an hour in the least for all these iconic interviews that Sammy’s Rock’n Roadshow does!!😎✌🏼❤️🎸🎸🥁🎹🎼🎧🎯
