My son and I were there last year. A beautiful small city. It is an absolutely amazing and moving place. If anyone say the French don’t fight I educate them on Verdun and WW1.

Love the archival photos and videos that you included on this one. Saw some interesting stuff that I missed while I was there too.

Know the feeling. If it is any comfort, still happens after the 3rd or 4th visit.

Thank you Paul once more. I'm just about to leave Arras and was thinking where to go on my next Great War visit. You've helped me on that one. It has to be Verdun.

This is touching, which is not a typical reaction for me. I have watched a handful of videos of this historical site though your reference to the war in Ukraine is extraordinarily relevant. Unfortunately those who initiate these conflicts do not care of the human cost. Thank you

Thanks, I've felt that strong resonance with Ukraine for some time now as we travel round the battlefields of the past while another European war unfolds.

I visited this cemetery 40 years ago and the horrifying sight of the mass of bones in the semi-basement of the ossuary still lives in my memory now.

It is horrifying - all part of the warning to future generations that it was built as.

I've been to Ypres, the Somme, etc. but Verdun is far more poignant. You are literally seeing the dead in the Ossuarium.

Agreed, there is a very different atmosphere at Verdun.
