Desecration of the Pacific: Chinese venture capitalists have turned their sights to Fiji in their latest attempt to exploit the booming Chinese tourism market. Despite illegally building on protected coastal waters, Fijian authorities have done little to protect the environment from development. Now, the people have taken the fight to the developers to protect their Pacific paradise.

What saddens me is that China knows that Europeans did this hundreds of years ago to get where they are now. I feel like they feel they can do it too ( as it seems to be the thing to do on the way to development). When the Chinese guy was pushing the White guy, I wonder did the White guy ever think, "So this is how the Natives felt when my ancestors came" Past actions don't justify doing it now and that is the message the China seems to reject. Furthermore, they know about our other recent sins (referring to North American wars and corporate crimes).

@@steve-uo3lw I do stand corrected Steve. My comment was a bit of a knee jerk annoyance, New Zealand, especially under Jacinda Ardern, is truly a nation that shines in the eyes of the world. I confess I know little of the strides made recently in the elevation of the Maoris but I trust that they will continue to see their people recognised in this modern age.

I too expected it was the Chinese before watching the video. Crazy. The world needs to know what the Chinese are doing. But the Chinese now have propaganda machines all over the world to implant the thought that Chinese culture is great. It’s a distraction. @dominic k Your precious Chinese mate is up shit creek pal. FBC News reported this is because the Nadi Magistrate was not present to hear the case today. Freesoul is facing charges over damage caused by construction of a resort on Malolo island after media revealed massive destruction there. The company is charged with one count of undertaking unauthorised development. It is also charged with a count of failure to comply with a prohibition notice under the Environment Management Act. Under the Act, if convicted, the company and its directors face fines of up to $US345,000 or a term of imprisonment of up to10 years, or both. The case will now be called on the 24 June.

This is not even recognizable. The beautiful reefs look completely dead. Perhaps the invaders need to be forcefully removed! They are destroying the natural beauty that was once Fiji. They have totally ignored the court ruling and nothing has been done about it. The problem is that the Fijians don't have an functioning army that can defend them against outside invaders and haven't had one in centuries. They really don't have a police force that will defend the people. The Chinese have deep pockets and military force. That's is the reason that they are able to muscle their way in to Fiji and elsewhere.
@pervertt
@pervertt 5 жыл бұрын
Not quite right. Fiji does have a very effective army and a fledging navy. They also have a police force, albeit one with a patchy record of law enforcement. What Fiji also has is a communal system of land ownership for native lands, and something called the Native Lands Trust Board. The latter was set up by the British before they packed up and left. The intention was to ensure that native Fijians would not end up dispossessed of their lands, as has happened in other British colonies. The system has worked so effectively that even non-Fijians who were born in the country have great difficulty buying native land or even acquiring leases to develop native land. Money can only get you so far unless you're prepared to break the law. Freesoul appears to be a bunch of clueless amateurs who haven't done their homework before trashing Malolo island.

@@pervertt All you have to do is reverse the scenario, and you'll see my point. You will never see a group of Fijians annexing Macao Island (in the Hong Kong archipelago) and being treated in a neutral fashion. Why? China has the muscle, money, and international support to stop it. Fiji does not. Period.
@tw69hands2
@tw69hands2 5 жыл бұрын
@Plasma Matter Bottom line is this, when you have power and wealth, you cannot be bought nor muscled. China doesn't bribe nations in which they sell the majority of their goods because they can't. They don't muscle in on nations that have nukes and/or a world-class armed force. Why? They can't afford war.

Perhaps if they could specify what tyoe of land tenure are they dealing with. So far as we know, Fiji has; I. Freehold Land 2. Native Lease 3. Crown Lease However, if this is a freehold land, then the issue of Native Land Trust Board now known as the I Taukei Land Trusts Board is irrelevant.

@@terriesmith8219 What can the Fiji government do? They don't have a decent sized military that could go in and enforce the high court's edict. I bet the developer could hire enough local thugs to make the local police toothless.

If anyone in the US Military high up at the Pentagon level watches this video someone should be paying real close attention to what China is trying to do get a foothold in Fiji is to get strategic position in the Pacific since Taiwan is a problem right now to just claim so go around it do it the easy way take small Pacific Islands and they still get a foothold in the Pacific wake up US military and staff

LOL The freaking local people should put their native land and people first instead of enriching themselves (politicians) and screw the rest. What happened when the rest getting tired of the corrupt government? They will burn it down coz they have nothing to lose. We the local people should take care our own before asking for help.

The US government has followed it for years Allen. Do you forget the Russians moving their ships. No government truly wants war except maybe China, so the US has quietly watched the ccp scourge creep across the Pacific. An economic war has been going on for the last 2 decades. Previous US administrations, not all, allowed it to happen. By the time Trump got into power the ccp already had a war footing and could declare war at anytime. The EU and other western countries have allowed this to happen as they silently bought strategic positions and bought sympathisers all over the Pacific. With the impending expectation of compensation to every country affected by Covid 19, tensions will rise and its likely the ccp will mobilise navy to block trade routes between Aus/Nz and trade partners other than China. Cut off those, already threatening Taiwan, tensions high with Japan and Trump in Murica is a complete wild card. I foresee conbat war within 2 years.

Psypher luix Chinese gov. Is trying to take over Asia one step at a time, then to the west. I know neighboring countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. are having the same issue. China is coming in to buy out land. That’s why the neighboring countries disdain China with a burning passion.

Psypher luix not to mention China would claim more of the coastal area then they are allowed to. Essentially give them a mile, they will take 10 miles.

Thieves don't like other thieves. it not a happy ending. when she go home SHE TOO is on stolen land; where is her documentary on that? English + Chinese =are both foreign languages; not native to that region. I dont hear her complaining she cant communicate; where is the dust up about Fijians being pushed into White Jesus mentality? The Australia great barrier reef is dead. (RIP) The Great Barrier Reef first began to grow about 18 million years ago; They destroy things that they never put down..... as well THE CHINESE SEND THEIR STUDENTS TO ELITE WHITE SCHOOLS to learn this mentality, all the chinese are = is a more proficient white man. They have some nerve to complain now. Irony is always a struggle for them, I dont know WHY? they must have no mirrors in their world

Great Journalism Job. How did you shoot this documentary without even getting caught in the first place. Many locals tried to do a shooting like this but they are either chased away by govt reps for some reasons only known to the people on top using Man in Suits or Man in Uniform as a "blanket" to cover whats really happening in my country. You may need to do another documentary on those land that were once Native but A Freehold Title has been created yet again on the same plot of land. In short, one Plot carries two title i.e freehold & Native Lease. Just to give you an idea of how Indigenous Land Gets Robbed through the assistance of some people sitting on Top. I SALUTE YOU ON YOUR COURAGE TO FILM ONE OF THE MOST SENSITIVE TOPIC IN MY COUNTRY. GOD BLESS YOU.
