Sixteen years ago, Francis Ona started a war that left 10,000 dead. Now Bougainville's self proclaimed King is threatening to derail the peace process.
Ona has long been a thorn in the side of the government of PNG. With the island on the verge of electing its first autonomous government, Ona is fighting for his political life. He's calling for the elections to be boycotted. As one former ally explains: "He's making a grab for power."

I was the only white child at pre school in Arawa in 1983-84 while my dad flew for Bougair. They are wonderful natured people that got fed up with their country being raped.

@@scottymcscott8742 I find this United Nations research very suspicious. I also doubt that there will be a large number of these and will not surface, or rather, be reported to the world. When it comes to a report of rapes and with the UN at the forefront of research through interviews I suggest that you present the scientific, academic or legitimizing sources, otherwise it will just be a smoke screen (throw another half-truth conversation ( fake news) to divert attention from the real focus of the Bougauvilian people’s independence. BESIDES it should be known that this fella is not a king.He's just consider as a influential leader.His profound job was a surveyor.He was the one that open the door for Rio tinto,not knowing that this sh** gonna cripple our Resources.Little was known Bout the Disadvantage of this Mining by the Landowners.And as clear as a crystal Francis Ona and his sidekicks were the only Literate beings at that time which they takes a toll to brainwash all this poor landowners to the core.Eventually as the Consequence of destructions gets bigger and no change in the loyalty fees.Franchis Ona Disfigured himself and drag the idea of Revolution.Though it should be known, that so call our influential leaders,they also turn things ugly at the beginning. Typical colonial language! In other words he was a "good guy" when he "worked for my father" because he was passive. But all of a sudden when he stood up for the basic rights of his people he was no longer a good guy. Take the politics out of it - it is quite obvious in this portrayal that Francis is being conned - but that does not change the motivation and theme for his uprising.
