This was my 1st bike touring trip...2017. Way overpacked with older bulky heavy gear. I toured the eastern part of the Erie Canal Trail. Had been nearly 40 years since had visited there. Bike gear trimmed way down for upcoming 2023 trip. I started at my childhood hometown near Sylvan Beach / Oneida Lake. Cycled a few miles away picking up the trail south/west of Rome. Rome is where the trail actually started then builders went east and west from there...Clinton's Ditch (not Bill or Hillary...lol). I'll be riding the entire Empire Trail system in about 3 months....late May into June 2023. Been some trail upgrades since 2017. I'm more familiar with the C&O in Maryland. I havent cycled the NY Erie Canal Trail as much, but getting there more this year.. Looking forward to wandering along at a snail pace tent camping along the trail again. Hopefully side navigate to reminisce of half century ago growing up in NY.

Hey there! I happened across your video and decided to watch it while doing some indoor triking. My girlfriend and I did the Erie Canal Trail from Buffalo to Albany this year with Parks and Trails NY and pretty much any chance to relive the experience gets taken. Imagine my surprise at minute 17.47 when I saw the triker in your video. If this part of the video happened to be taken on 9/11, on that particular day I partook of a 71 mile round trip from Gloversville, NY to Schenectady and back again on a Terratrike Sportster. I took a snippet of your picture and blew it up to give me a little more detail, but, alas, I can't be 100% certain the triker in that picture is me. However, there's a very good likelihood it is me (It was a Monday so only people with weird work schedules like me would be out there, right?). If so, awesome! Glad you had good and safe time on the journey. We're hoping to do it again next year as well.

Lance Gundersen I recall this trike cyclist was making good timing...i tried for a while to keep pace but with my heavy load i could not.

ppp journeyonabike, if it was me, I was averaging 15 mph on that journey and had no baggage. The Sportster is fairly quick when it's stock, but I like to waste large quantities of cash. I outfitted it with a Schlumpf High Speed Drive and a NuVinci N360 rear hub. It's a bit of a beast now.

ppp journeyonabike, ah, well. That takes me out of the picture. I only managed 7 miles on an elliptical that day. Bummer.

Needs a table of contents with timecodes so, for example, I know where to start to see Schenectady

tell us about your solar panels, lights, thanks!
@pppjourneyonabike59926 жыл бұрын
lromeroyt I have since changed to an Anker battery [QualComm 3.0] and not using the solar panel...although i could still use it. I would rate the solar panel about 2 out of 5 only because i could get same charge from 30 to 60 minutes charge by 120V outlet during rest stops. I have the solar panel here because i camp and read that outlets were not available at most NYS Lock campsites. But Solar panel is 17watts outputting 17 to 21volts DC is made by Voltaic & charges a 20,000 mAh battery (model V72) also made by Voltaic which is an old design. Battery at that time was used to charge the headlights by connecting USB cable. Battery charges my smartphone too. Pretty much standard.
