Each of the band members adds a new exciting dimension to the music. The bass is driving, the guitar adds dynamic variation, the drum beat is relentless, the vocals add micro-tonal inflections along with dynamics and poetical imagery.

One thing about Joy Division is that it didnt sound like the band had a specific sound and each member was a part of it, but rather each band member had their own sound, and the result of them coming together was Joy Division.

What a lucid live performance. And of Joy Division. The last 1:35 or so are pure anguish, anger ...

it's amazing that anyone could hear this song live and not realize that, the emotion, it was all directed at them, directly at them. at least, it seems that way. but hindsight 20/20 right?

Wow now that I think about it, it's quite messed up isn't it. "Pray to god, make it quick, watch him fall" apparently there were people back then who went to Joy Division concert just wanting to see Ian having seizures.

@@rsyalva This is also reflected in the opening when he says 'For entertainment they watch his body twist'. Ian got pretty self conscious about people going to their concerts just to see him having a seizure

With Hook's bass revving like an infernal combustion engine they could have named this version 'Crash' (Ballard's sequel to 'Love & Napalm' aka 'Atrocity Exhibition').
