Ian’s words in “The Eternal” are beautiful and devastating.

“This is a crisis I knew had to come Destroying the balance I'd kept Doubting, unsettling, and turning around Wondering what will come next Is this the role that you wanted to live? I was foolish to ask for so much Without the protection and infancy's guard It all falls apart at first touch” are my favorite lyrics from ian curtis.

Yeah, your videos about him are nice. And I too am fascinated with his short life. He did have a way inside many of us. And his legacy lives on.

Atrocity Exhibition is by far, my favourite Joy Division song - indeed, my favourite song.

I've traveled far and wide Unknown martyrs died What did you see there? I saw the one sided trials What did you see there? I saw the tears as they cried They had tears in their eyes... The figures from the past stand tall And mocking voices ring the hall Imperialistic house of prayer Conquistadors who took their share ...tbh there are too many lyrics that have stuck with me over the years, including that haunting first stanza in Atrocity Exhibition. (...for entrainment the watch his body twist... behind his eyes he says 'I still exist' - just *damn* those lyrics are so evocative!) But I've always found the verses I mentioned particularly fascinating cause of it's reference to the Spanish inquisition, and the genocide of the Indigenous tribes of the Americas (by using the word Conquistadors in the song Dead Souls). This video is amazing and very insightful, and I'm so glad to have stumbled onto your channel! 💜💜💜

I was a young teenager back when Joy Division first came along and was more into stuff like Iggy Pop and also heavy metal back then. After learning more about Ian's story and later hearing their first album in recent years I have become more of a fan. Ian reminds me of someone I knew, and his story is really tragic. One of my favorite songs is candidate.

I know basically nothing about Joy Division or Ian Curtis and this was still incredibly interesting.

His words are gently placed in the content of the music. I think Joy Division are one of the most interesting bands ever. I've listened to their few songs for over thirty years now and they are unique.

Hi Em, Ian brought me to your channel in the very early days. I was so intrigued. This homage demonstrates your passion and your growth since that first foray! There is a lot of Ian in a lot of us. A poet. Thank you for capturing this so well. And celebrating kindred spirits.

One of my favorites from Closer. I never realized that Ian didn’t write as a lyricist even though I did some projects about his writing where I had pictures of his lyric books and saw the structures.

Brilliant, Emily! You do these videos so so well. I found this fascinating from the perspective of artistic creativity which interests me very much. But for Curtis to feel both so visible and invisible at the same time is a tragic comment on fame in the modern world.

Asylums with doors open wide Where people had paid to see inside For entertainment they watch his body twist Behind his eyes he says, "I still exist" This is the way, step inside In arenas, he kills for a prize Wins a minute to add to his life But the sickness is drowned by cries for more Pray to God, make it quick, watch him fall This is the way, step inside This is the way This is the way, step inside You'll see the horrors of a faraway place Meet the architects of law face to face See mass murder on a scale you've never seen And all the ones who try hard to succeed This is the way, step inside And I picked on the whims of a thousand or more Still pursuing the path that's been buried for years All the dead wood from jungles and cities on fire Can't replace or relate, can't release or repair Take my hand and I'll show you what was and will be

Ian and Kurt so much alike in the way that they were tortured badly by their demons and you can hear that especially in there lyrics and the fact that they both died really young, RIP! Got to admit I really struggle to watch Control because of what happens in it, its so sad!
