Lyrics
A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.
We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
'We'll give you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more.'
I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time,
Hoping for something else.

I grew up in ages when we just listen to the music and feel the songs, no internet, no KZbin. The best way to listen to Joy Division is in a low light room and let them talk deep inside you. Who needs the videos to feel? The music and the vocals make all the scene comes true.

Yep bc a good looking girl posing is what I think about when listening to music about struggling with depression and killing yourself. This video makes me think of episodes of teen dramas where a main character is depressed. The video would have been done better without anyone in it. When I think of depression, I think about someone who is doing their best to be/act normal when they’re actually white knuckling it through the bad times. I feel sad when I see video of Ian.

I dunno, seems a little dramatic don't you think? I mean there you'll be, in a coffin, and everyone will be listening to this wondering, 'why are we listening to this song' ? Oh it's because he wanted us to', but then people will wonder, why this song? Was he trying to send us a post death message? and the funeral last a while, so it'll just be this one song over and over? People will get sick of it really. Then people will start researching the lyrics and coming to all kinds of conclusions, it'll become like a riddle with pieces of your life being corelated to words in the song, do you really want to send people down this road? How about just an instrumental version of something? Maybe a mariachi band better?

welcome to the party brother! Some of their earlier stuff is louder and punkier but most from this album, "Unknown Pleasures" is just as slow and moody. This is my favorite from the album though, it's just perfect. They unfortunately didn't last very long so there's not a lot (53 Total songs, according to sources I've found), but that means it won't be too hard to cover all the ground you can with them. Give Unkown Pleasures a listen, and maybe Substance too and then just keep going. Also, you may like New Order too, that's the band they became when Ian died. But their stuff is a lot less heavy and gothic. Still great though

pull up any random vid on youtube, turn the vid's sound off, and play this music to it. That is the level of connection this vid has to the music.

How a person responds to music, is a deeply personal thing. Many, if not most of you, were exposed to this song many years after it's initial release, this is not your fault, it is just how life unfolds... I heard this song, when I was about 20, (along with the entire Unknown Pleasures album), when it was first released. This gloomy (later to be called goth) music, touched a part of my soul, that had never been touched in this manner before, it was dark, it was introspective, it forced me to look deep inside myself and it scared me, yet I could not look away, I could not stop listening, I really felt Ian was stimulating a part of me, that had never been exposed before, I loved it, yet in some twisted way, hated how it made me feel, but I was hooked and the bottom line was.... IT MADE ME FEEL....!

Quite a few negative comments here, but anything that encourages JD newbies to discover this classic, timeless music is OK by me. Btw I grew up listening to JD in the 80s...the wall in my room at Uni had poster of Ian Curtis watching over me, as I stared out at a grey, concrete campus. JD was virtually all I listened to for a while. Ah, memories.

I sang Shadowplay, at an inpromptu, party in the woods, during the summer, never rehearsed, just some amazing musicians with me, Matt, guitar, Mick, Bass, Freddie, Drums, he went on to play for Tenpole Tudor, a transcendent experience, as Joy Division, themselves were at the Moonlight Club in West Hampstead....RIP the genius that was Ian Curtis

None of the re-imagined videos were needed or even wanted. I will say that this one was slightly less obnoxious than the earlier versions. I think its relatively simple imagery and bleak visuals suit the music better than, say, a naked man covered in leaves or some abstract animation.
