Right. (Constructive criticism) what they should do is listen to the lyrics. What does this video have to do with the lyrics. "I've go the spirit, but loose the feeling". I dont see how this video incorporates that with the visuals. "Cars are crashing, lights are flashing, getting frequent now". I see no sign of that in the video. Just give us what we want. A video that pays homage to the band and the death of an amazing musician. I get a feeling of a crowded Manchester city centre with this song. Dark and murky. Eerie like the music. This song makes you feel so many different emotions at once. For me and I speak for many others when I say, this is our favourite song and the first one we heard from the group. Lets relive the moment when we first heard it.
@rmilrta5 жыл бұрын
I understand people not liking it, but do you really want literal crashing cars and flashing lights in the video because those are the lyrics? You wouldn't want that, exactly. The refrain is "I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling" But what does that actually mean? I don't see how you could necessarily incorporate it. "Heart and Soul: one will burn" also will mean different things to different people. The "Love Will Tear Us Apart" video is perfect, but it's mostly just the band with some simple video effects. I found this one interesting, the way it somehow misses the mark, although it obviously includes some of the usual post-industrial tropes. I guess the woman could represent "feeling" here. But these songs are still without a definitive video and I think I agree with others that they maybe shouldn't have one. The album artwork is the music's visual counterpart, if it has any.
@glasseater34745 жыл бұрын
@@rmilrta I know what you mean and I agree with you. I also dont see how you could make a music video to this song. The lyrics as you said mean different things to different people. So yeah I agree with your words.

@IncredulousMisanthrope5 жыл бұрын
@@rmilrta uh...no, I believe I have to disagree with you mate. There are many ways of interpreting this song, most certainly. And I myself would prefer having to look at the artwork of "unknown pleasures" itself, than this wretched video. But if a music video is really that nessesary, then implicitly should be applied. For instance, for the whole "lights are flashing, cars are crashing" thing, one could easily show a short blurry clip of a traffic, in the night for instance, where everything is a mess or so. For the "spirit, but lose the feeling", they can have a man pace on with his life in panic and so on. I suggest you check out "Agent Orange" by "Ski Patrol". It has a similar themed video and you'll see what I mean when I talk on relevancy. Note: The channel that uploaded the song is called "Dark entries records". Cheers!
@rmilrta5 жыл бұрын
@@IncredulousMisanthrope The blurry night traffic is a creative starting point of course, but there's a million ways to go. I wouldn't say it's impossible to allude to it: I meant it it doesn't *have* to be. The "spirit/feeling" part is a bit too abstract for me. I would find it hard to convey that as a concrete image. You probably agree on this, and perhaps this isn't how you'd do it, but I thought this was one way the first video in this series went wrong ("We were strangers...away too long" as two blokes in a quarry take turns trying to take a piece out of each other.) Doesn't mean I won't look at the video! It's hard to make a Joy Division video that doesn't ramp up the usual interpretations too much. I made a video for In A Lonely Place for a Media Studies GCSE in 1988 when I was in college. I suspect people here would prefer it to some of these...

It's weird how many likes this has but so many negative comments. I actually didn't dislike it and I sometimes don't get why people hate it. Their reasons are sometimes a bit in contradiction to or not exactly what I seem to like about a music video, for example "It doesn't show the lyrics in any way", as if a music video's purpose is to visualize the lyrics. I would say I like Radiohead's video for "No Surprises". But I'm not too sure about what I like about it or videos in general. This music video fits pretty well to me. MIKERUPTION very. But I expected to be disappointed :/
@MIKERUPTION5 жыл бұрын
@@brawnylilyspark Unfortunately, these reimagined videos have been so terrible. It blows my mind how out of touch with Joy Division's essence these videos have been. It's almost like the videomaker had a preconceived idea for a short film, and in order to make it, they forced it upon a Joy Division song, whether it was appropriate or not.

I love watching the live chat freaking out like “omg a video” in the beginning, and then a minute in having their dreams shattered. Just the reactions are perfect lmao 👌😂 Also this is by far the WORST reimagined video

I always imagined the video to this song to be a midnight drive, late night with the radio crackling slightly and light rain, not some preying mantis having an aneurysm coursing through her arms in an ikea parking lot. Ian didn’t die for this, I’ll tell you that for free
