Alderley Edge. I took the bus south out there from my Levenshulme bedsit after escaping from a dangerous relationship with a disturbed schizophrenic girlfriend, April 1980. Had a drink and a nap behind a wall in a wood. Woke and saw Ian in there, wandering around on his own.. true story.

Just been listening to this version and the Unknown Pleasures one... They are very different, but I wouldn't say one is exactly better than the other. This one focuses on the beat and the music is almost incidental. The Unknown Pleasures one pushes the beat into the background and has the music almost harmonizing with Ian Curtis - The Bass is way more prominent. That version gradually loses control as the song progresses and so is an amazing bit of production. The single is better for clubbing but, if the Unknown Pleasures version is heard alone in a dark room, it becomes one with your soul. Like Passover, my other favourite.

@@jvcdeadmoney the album version is piss compared to this. The bass is weedy and Stephen sounds like he's playing a toilet rather than a drumkit
@JBomb5174 жыл бұрын
@@whatamalike well to debate here... The drums in this sound like white noise and is very distracting, in comparison to the transcending sound on the album version. I do not like the overly done snare fuzz in this. I do love Ian's tone in this one, but not the way he's singing some of the words in the verses that makes the album version so great to me. Overall, everything but the drums sounds good to me.

The album version belongs to Unknown Pleasures. This version stands very well on its own as a single, and with its more abrasive, layered tone, could also easily be a track off Closer.

The song written by Curtis who worked at the Job Centre in his hometown of Macclesfield, Cheshire, finding positions for people with special needs. One of his clients was a girl with epilepsy. At one point in 1978, Curtis noticed that the girl had stopped coming into the department. He later discovered she’d had a fit in her sleep and had tragically died. The incident inspired Curtis to write a new song about the girl: She's Lost Control
