Saw JD on Friday 8th February 1980 at London University, supported by Killing Joke. They were magnificent. Seeing Ian now frozen in time is a reminder of what a great performer he was, and the power of JD's music at the dawning of a new decade. 38 years have gone in the blink of an eye, but Joy Division have remained immortal.

Incredible. Just look at the way that Ian moves - so involuntarily, hypnotically, like the music was forcing a jig upon him. Imagine what must've gone through his brain and what his life must've been like producing Unknown Pleasures and Closer. Eternally sad that he passed so early and didn't leave us with much material as Joy Division, but then again, if he had it better, perhaps Joy Division wouldn't have been? Great upload though, I hope we can get more live material

It has become a load of politics. I'd still like to see them placed next to the legends. That way you can counter "Joy Division? Never heard of them!" It gives you additional leverage in a musical argument. Also, someone might investigate why they've been recognized along with more traditional groups.

@@thewhoman3182I It's all about the influence on David Bowie and bands like REM, Joy Division and Blur. A band like the VU were doing something new and Avantgarde. Of course Iggy And The Stooges weren't mainstream and Big Star couldn't sell many albums but they were the prototypes for Punk and Power Pop. And look at the others who are considered legends or catalyst for a movement: The Ramones, Motorhead, Gram Parsons and The Long Ryders.
